Poor little boy. He just wanted fuzzies like everyone else. He seemed interested in school but his mom is just not having it! I'd love to know what his dad's opinion on this matter is. Then again, he probably can't get a word in edge ways 😂. I hope she can back up her claims of how brilliant her home-schooling method is by showing us proof of her little boy's exemplary progress in future videos.

Which is exactly why Mommie dearest here wanted the teacher to call her and not use the parent teacher portal. One of the few things she learned from her youthful felony indiscretion was things that are written (the Facebook posts and messages she sent) can and will be used against her. I give it a year before she gives up and puts her little "angel" back in traditional school. The realization will probably set in that she actually over estimated her ability to deal with her child all day long much less teach or show them anything useful. She doesn't actually give a shit about the kid past what she can get for her content creation and creation of her downline. I guarantee that kid will do nothing but play their video games or otherwise ve parked in front of a screen because Mommie dearest it too busy with making her "content."

I wasn’t even unschooled, I was homeschooled…and I only have an 8th grade education. I’m 36. I was distraught when I went to college and immediately drowned. I needed so many remedial YEARS of school to catch up to college freshman level, that I developed an autoimmune disease from the stress of trying my hardest to do so. My hair was falling out in chunks, and I became depressed. After 2 years of struggling and trying 3 different colleges, I dropped out of school in shame and self-hatred. It was only a few years ago I realized it wasn’t my fault that I was so undereducated, and that I can do something about it. I’m now 4 years no-contact with my mother. She deprived me of my childhood and important milestones that I will forever be unable to relate to others about. No kid needs to be around their mommy 24/7. I was so codependent with my mom, that it felt like a betrayal to have my own opinions. She told me I must be a stay at home mom just like her, or I would have no value as a person. She discouraged and criticized every other potential future career I took an interest in. Now I’m teaching myself math using KZbin and google, because I decided I want to try college again. Im a 36 year old teaching myself math that 15 year olds are doing. I’ve been working minimum wage jobs my whole life, not by choice. I worked a respectable office job as a CSR once, but let myself get bullied out of it because I had poor boundaries, no resilience, and was a fawning people-pleaser. I had zero self esteem. Educational neglect is child abu$e, and it can affect you your whole life.

As a former homeschooled child, can I just tell you I am SO effing proud of you for what you're doing. It's not fair that you got put into that position, and yet you are not giving up. You have recognized the root of the problem lies with your parent, and done what you had to in order to learn. It's so hard, especially as an older learner, and I applaud you for doing what your parents refused to do. ❤❤❤❤❤

I'm so sorry. I've always believed that some homeschooling "curriculums" are veiled child abuse. I'm a recovering addict and I lived in Christian fundie land while attending IOP. I met a woman there who had been homeschooled and desperately wanted to go into nursing. The problem was that the people who marketed the program her parents used lied about their program gave them an accredited HS diploma. It didn't. She put in one of the "assignments" we did as part of step one that the lack of education was her biggest insecurities. Having been a pre-med student in honors biology and chemistry before my car accident, I felt the same way. Being forced to drop out of college for health reasons was a huge issue that contributed to my spiral into opiate addiction. Anyway, I first helped her with the RAL for the GED exam then helped her study for the TEAS since I was working on my MCAT prep at the same time. We need an actual standard curriculum for homeschooling, just like there is for Connections Academy and public school. Anyone who doesn't agree should go look at the IBLP "curriculum" or the AiG one and then let me know if they think those are adequate. Stick with it. When I originally went back to school, I struggled big time. It took me until I was in my 30s to get an ADHD diagnosis and finally get into medical school.

First, I want to thank you for being someone who brings light into this world. You make life feel okay, and your parents truly did an incredible job raising you. I was homeschooled during grades 4 and 5 due to a serious health issue that almost cost me my life. Despite this, my mom was deeply committed to my education, teaching me the basics and ensuring I developed essential skills. However, when I returned to school in grade 6, I struggled to keep up with my classmates. I felt foolish and disheartened. Even though I completed my education like everyone else, I still face challenges with some fundamental concepts to this day. When the kids in my family ask me for advice on how to succeed in school, I always tell them to focus on mastering the basics because they are the foundation for everything else. They've thanked me for this advice, though I don’t see it as something extraordinary. It’s simply a lesson I learned the hard way, and it came at a significant cost. Thanks Kiki!

@@TaylorAmelia I’m 52. In Australia we did not get homework in primary school, apart from readers in the first two years and the odd assignment. Then in year 6 to prepare for high school homework was introduced. Not going to quote it but pretty sure research backs this model. That being said my 3 boys didn’t get alot of homework in primary and I was able to have respectful conversations with their teachers about not doing excess homework. Teaching respect for teachers is so important, I couldn’t think of a worse job lol. and as a parent you can come to agreements with a teacher without your young child even knowing. My dad dropped out his sophomore year, got into construction, opened his own company in his late twenties, and was a self-made millionaire by 40. My mom dropped out of high school, fell into medical billing, opened her own company, paid to have one of the first medical coding software programs developed in the early 80s, sold her company and retired by 40. I dropped out of high school, stumbled into accounting, started a payroll company on the side, hired people to do the work, now I just oversee the payroll company and do tax returns three months out of the year. No one would ever guess that I never bothered with university, much less, that I dropped out. While my parents and I are likely extreme outliers, I wouldn't assume education amounts to intelligence or success. For instance, I have a dozen clients that bring home 300/400k annually from pool cleaning companies they opened as teenagers; I know four of them dropped out, as well. Meanwhile, none of us have had to struggle with school-related debt, or years of working under shit bosses. I'm not saying it's easy (securing affordable healthcare prior to the ACA passing was a nightmare), but I hope someone sees this and feels hopeful. "Choose your own adventure" is a legitimate life strategy. If you don't want to/can't afford college, find a niche and get to work. You can do it.

I've met a lot of homeschool parents and they are not much more learned than a standard 5th grader... They don't have the time to refresh their own knowledge, how tf can they effectively teach their children? People like her will blame the materials or the co-op they eventually turn to, I'm sure, when results aren't where they want them to be.

Her wording is very telling, always with the "owning" of a child. It's not that the government or any other entity believes they own your child, it's that YOU, the parent, DO NOT OWN YOUR CHILD. Children are people, not property, you don't get to do whatever the fuck you feel like with and to a child because you birthed them. You don't get to educationally neglect your child because you dont don't believe in schools, you don't get to deny medical treatment for your child because you don't believe in doctors, you don't get to beat the shit out of your kids because they make you mad. Being a parent does not mean you have carte blanche on anything and everything. These "rules" are not set up to undermind parents, they're set up to protect children FROM their own parents.

If she were less narcissistic (or at least more intelligent), and actually wanted to really sell this MLM point home, she wouldn’t go off preaching about “unschooling.” Her selling point would be focused on how she was able to turn her life around and put her kids in private school and give them and herself a better life by doing xyz blah blah bs. When she called them her downline it was actually super accurate. People you use and steal from for your own profit? Yup. I seriously doubt she has the presence of mind to consciously sabotage her son to validate herself. She’s probably just expressing the only attachment style she knows, she probably learned at an early age that she couldn’t rely on authority figures to protect her (that explains her hostility towards a teacher or school’s authority) and bc of the dunning Krueger effect she’s simply too stupid to understand how stupid she is. She genuinely, in her own mind, believes that she’s doing the right thing. What’s sad is that for families like this, exposure to alternative thinking as a child is pretty much your only hope for escaping it. Thank god I went to friends’ houses as a kid and realized how messed up my own family was. I _loved_ books, they were my only escape as a kid. I’m really lucky for that.

@@eeeriebrillianceright? What is with this need for some single parents to demonize the other parent? Like, they’re so satisfied with themselves and constantly talk (publicly and in front of their kids) about the other parent being a POS. They’re like, “my ex doesn’t even care if his son has school clothes” or “I raised them _by myself_ their mom didn’t pay a dime” and it’s just this proud, hostile attitude where a kid is constantly being told how much less the other parent cares about them. People who deliberately seek out full custody and won’t encourage time spent with the other parent, who bring up the other parent owing them, failing, or being absent etc in front of the kid. Who don’t want the other parent involved yet brag about their own dedication constantly. I just don’t get why ensuring your kid has a poor relationship with their other parent is so, prideful? I understand protecting them but this isn’t very protective, it feels like raising your own value by degrading the other parent and it’s really harmful for kids to think their other parent doesn’t give a crap about them or that the other parent is scum, bc if my dad is scum that means that I’m half scum. As a former teacher and mom who plans to homeschool, I have a few thoughts: 1. Moms like her are one of the biggest reasons I dreaded going to work. 2. HOMESCHOOLING IS NOT FOR EVERYONE AND EVERY CHILD. 3. She’s doing what’s best for her, not what’s best for her son. Homeschooling should never be a knee-jerk decision. It’s a huge responsibility. 4. Teachers don’t make enough money to be financially motivated to teach your children. A lot of us will spend OUR OWN MONEY to make sure your children are getting to have special activities and experiences in school.

Point 4 is a major issue. You don't get in to teaching because you're going to make a lot of money. I just pulled my son and moved to another district because teachers are unmotivated to teach and they sit them in front of a computer and that's it. He failed 3 years, became unruly in school and became a target for suspension and everything. I spent more time at the school than work trying to fix things. I finally got fed up and moved to a completely different county where they actually care and he is a completely different student. He's got A's in most of his classes and actually enjoys going to school now. So yes teachers and schools target children. They labeled him ADD and the psychologist said he's just a kid. Didn't matter what the psychologist said, he didn't fit the mold for the school.

My point is that the lady in this video was claiming that those who work at het son’s school are “financially motivated.” They definitely aren’t. She really used all those words to say "I'm uneducated, and I don't want to parent my kids." Similarly, the irony is lost on her regarding "unschooling." The name says it. She wants to uneducate her kids. Plus, as you pointed out, the contradictions are unreal. "I don't want my kids at school, I want them at home where I have control over their education. School is just free babysitting." Then she turns right around and says "I don't want my kids at home where I have to deal with them!" Unfortunately it's too late for her to not have kids. My kids lost their daddy in January. When my husband was in the hospital, on life support, I emailed the schools (principal, counselor, and attendance secretary) AND their teachers to keep them abreast of the situation. This was on January 12th (school was canceled that day due to snow). The principals emailed me and let me know they would be praying/thinking of us and to let them know if they could do anything for us. After his passing my kids teachers brought us gift cards to local restaurants and little care packages for my kids (coloring books, crayons, little toys) as well as a folder of cards they had their classmates make for them. My kids ended up missing almost the entire month of January (to be fair it was actually only 5 days of school because we got 18" of snow so school was canceled for almost the whole month) the school was absolutely FINE with it because I communicated with them. Once my kids went back to school the teachers worked their tails up making up those missed 5 days. Since then my kids have had a day or two here and there where they were just too sad to go to school, again the school was FINE with it because I made them aware of our situation (several teachers came to my husband's funeral to support my kids) Also since they've been back the school reached out for permission to have them be seen by the school therapist at no cost to me so they all get therapy 1x a week at school. Honestly, I don't know how mentally healthy my kids would be without the support they received at school after this tragedy.

I would’ve loved to homeschool but also belong to one of those homeschool groups where they get together couple times a week for social stuff and learning things. I was going to further my education (I’ve got a BA) to become a professor but never did it after I got married and had kids… so I think I would’ve enjoyed teaching my children and others too. When my children were little, I looked into homeschool and it’s not a breeze!! At least the way I’d want to teach my children, there’d be So Much on my schedule! LoL! Perhaps it was a Good idea that I didn’t cuz at least my grown children love and respect me, I’m sure I would’ve driven them nuts! LoL! As a former teacher I can confirm that parent-teacher relationship is crucial for education. As a current homeschooling mother, I am all for parents teaching their own kids. You do have to be ok with the inconvenience of having to, ya know, check their work or write a lesson plan and print the worksheets or deliver classes. You are going to see your kids in unflattering lights, as all the issues that would play out in a classroom are happening right in front of you at the kitchen table. If you're going to put your child under someone else's authority and you expect that person to be able to effectively perform their duty, you cannot undermine them by bashing them in front of child. That tells the child not to respect that authority and subsequently other forms of authority down the road if you retain that mode of thought. There is absolutely nothing wrong with homeschooling these unhinged women are the ones who give us all a bad name. And I'm sick of it. A couple few points I can agree with her on, but she is so unhinged that it just cancelled them out. She doesn't understand what she's trying to say. She's just spouting random buzz words, basically.

My 9 yo told me this morning he wanted to buy another book for his classroom’s library, this will be the 3rd this year, earned with his allowance. He saves up a few weeks then we take him to the store to get the book. We also give him the money we get from returning cans if he helps. He cooks with me, we bake. We have a garden. As someone who was a part of this stupid 'unschooling' bs as a kid (way before it was even a thing), I can tell you that it damages the child in so many ways. I was only pulled out for three years, but it took me so, so many years after I was put back in the system to catch up with everyone else. I was behind socially, mentally, and educational wise. Not to mention the feeling that you're stupid follows you around because everyone else is so far ahead of you... Kids need structure. They need guidance. A parent can not do everything, and neither can a teacher. The school system may have some major issues, but doing this crap is not helping.

Yeah, my fiancee was "homeschooled" too. Except her mom and grandma were super lazy and hands off and she fell behind and dropped out. I can't recall if she ever had any formal education, because I didn't pry terribly much, but my fiancee is... 28 this year, I think? Her confidence has never recovered. When we first met she didn't have a GED, didn't have a driver's license, and had never had so much as a part time job. She thought she was borderline illiterate and thought she was unhelpably stupid. I gave her the pushes she needed, and she passed her GED with minimal math study, got her driver's license on the first try, and has been to college TWICE. We've been together 8 years and she's gone from having no hope or prospects to a very upwardly mobile apprenticeship as an electrician. And she STILL lacks confidence. She STILL struggles socially and several times a month I have to soothe her imposter syndrome because she starts to worry she's not qualified for her job because of the dumbest mistakes anyone could make, like misplacing the plastic bag a screw came in for a project. Do right by your kids, people. School is part of the village. Your kid needs to feel like they're part of their age cohort, and if you're not extremely proactive, homeschooling is so very isolating. If she'd been sent to school this fiancee of mine might have cured cancer by now because she is so goddang naturally smart and talented. She should have been an engineer or a doctor.

@@annab13 maybe. But then how is that child going to feel after he will grow up and go see the world. Level of math at high school is already low on US compare to Europe. (we have stories about exchange students who were having D or F from math at Slovak school but were geniuses at US school). (I don't know exactly how is it now, but yeah, when I was highschooler we were making fun of that. I assume that kids more to the east are making fun of us in Middle Europe) If she already thinks that US schools are teaching useless things and plans to skip pretty much everything then her kids are going to be stupid. I already feel bad for them.

@@annab13 normally I would agree with you. Having your own curriculum could also mean that you learn more then at school. It's just that she keeps saying things like "learning life skills" and mentions nothing about learning more math, more history, more geography etc.. So it sounds more like she only plans to teach her children practical part of life and skip everything else we don't use daily but still need. Either because we need it for job, or for occasional extra hard task, or for development of memory and all types of intelligence, or for political opinions, or for cultural knowledge,... I have nothing against parents who want to go beyond the level of school system. And I understand what you mean. I only don't trust her.

I agree wholeheartedly. Even 10 years ago when I was in school I never would have THOUGHT to disrespect or talk back to a teacher. I would've been flown into next week. My friend who's a substitute teacher says the kids talk back so much and don't respect authority and the teachers can't do anything because the parents get mad that teachers are disciplining their kids basically. She's even been physically threatened by a student before and nothing came of it My parents were also involved in my schooling. I was pretty responsible but they kept tabs on my grades and touched base with me frequently

Teachers can't win. There are parents complaining about kids working too much at school, and then there are parents that complain about the kids aren't learning enough at school (while also ignoring all homework they get). There's ALWAYS that one parent that threatens to take their kid out of school if the teachers don't give their child special treatment. I don't understand why parents think that's a "threat"? Yes, please take your misbehaving kid out of school and let them break things at home instead of breaking things at school!

Your statement sounds so superior. You as a teacher, please do understand that there are parents far more educated than you. With far more important jobs such as drs saving lives etc. respect.? It’s mutual, which you seem you are entitled too. btw. I see a lot of ‘my’ and ‘me’ it’s not about you or is it’s? Isn’t it always about the children as they scream on the picket lines… Ask Randi, that’s where much backlash to public schools came from. From someone who was a Public as my sons students referred to them. So I’ve seen the best and worse. But I never will regret my children’s mostly private school education. And I don’t regret my one child’s decision to finish her last year at her public HS. It depends on the school district and the teachers and the politics involved, which school boards have a lot (too much ) power.

My parents are both teachers. Yeah there’s great parents but you really deal with the full spectrum of people. You have experience with hundreds of children and parents and of course some are horrible. Teachers deserve respect & the ones who don’t respect teachers are usually expecting teachers to do the raising instead of them. Your job is dealing with kids during the day not having to educate full grown adults

No ged, no diploma = no opinion on schooling. Now i can understand home schooling in certain circumstances ie, the school isn't equipped to support children with additional learning needs. However if you're dumb and you take your kids out of school to teach them yourself and not hire a tutor, chances are the kids will grow into dumb adults. Dumb kids are endearing, Dumb adults are dangerous.

Not homeschooling. UNschooling, meaning you don’t actually teach your kids anything. You allow them to direct their own learning by their interests. It’s not a structured teaching like homeschooling is. It is a handoff teaching for parents. Homeschooling you still have to be present and teach your kids the subjects and direct. And I speak from my homeschooling experience of three kids 7 and younger. Please don’t confuse them as the same thing.
