The mold is because what they use to prevent it isn't effective for the formula. They're using potassium sorbate, which is only really effective in water which is why it's used for food. Makeup doesn't really have water most of the time, it's generally oil based and these only have oil actually, so the potassium sorbate isn't going to be effective against mold, phenoxyethanol isnt even meant to do anything about mold either, its meant for bacteria.
