I actually think projects like Hr or Sales analytics are not very good for your portfolio because everyone is making those and they don't stand out for a recruiter that looks at 100 resumes a day. I think you're better of making something more unique and interesting, for example, i am now working on one analysing satellite data from NASA

I have to disagree, actually HR and Sales analytics in your portfolio is great if you're applying for HR or Sales related DA job, since you can showcase your experience and domain knowledge pertaining to HR or Sales. The creativity and uniqueness of your project is what can make you stand out than others.

One thing my high school teacher said to me that has stood the test of time: "Quality over Quantity". Thinking you have to use a super large dataset with hundreds of thousands or even millions rows is not necessary. I feel it's best to do a project in which you have to do some searching for the data, multiple sources is even better, some good data cleaning, and then complete the rest of the data analytics lifecycle.

Despite of having 3 hands-on projects, optimized LinkedIn profile, skills of excel, python, mysql, tableau and even statistics with 1 career certification, I still can't land my 1st entry level job as a foreigner...not even one formal interview. Any suggestions?

I feel your frustration. I built the first app of its kind in my country, hoping to showcase my skills and expertise to potential employers and recruiters. the app itself didn't gain the traction I'd envisioned, this field it a complete waste of time energy, and money. I'm at the point to leave this field

There are many jobs beside data analytics, where Excel, SQL and Python might be used. If you able to land a job in financial planning, back office, operations, you could gain some practical knowledge there and transition to Data Analyst.

@@dcodingprodg I wished to work in the US from my country Taiwan but seemed impossible right now especially after the big lay-off. Instead, I'm going to earn my master degree directly in the US this winter and get a job after graduation. That's my plan right now. Best of luck to me~

Can you give us the path to do a project ? I think i am not the only one this situation. I know how to code in python and SQL but do not know where to code project to show it. What tool do we need to install etc etc
