What you did, Jordan, it was a new lesson to learn. You will do better next time. Keep it up.

This is so good. Story time: I was homeschooled up until 7th grade when I went to a semi-public school. I remember giving my first presentation in science class in junior high, and I had this crippling fear and huge amount of embarrassment just standing up there. I could barely speak and wanted the floor to swallow me whole. I ended up getting a bachelor and master of science in nutrition and am now 29 years old in my 3rd semester as a part-time lecturer at a university. All the glory goes to God because I was always a crazy ball of nerves before. I still get nervous sometimes speaking in front of groups, but it is amazing how God has helped me grow in these years. I am thanking God for taking me through an interview and presentation yesterday for the full-time position as a professor. (By the way, I almost majored in English but decided to minor in it instead!) I take more opportunities to get out of my comfort zone often. I could totally relate to this video. Thanks for sharing your experience, Jordan.

I completely relate to the "don't think about it" method! I did the same thing with my homeschool graduation speech. I have no memory now of what I said, but afterward, a friend's brother left me a note that said my speech was the first off the cuff speech he had ever heard that did not include the word "um." 😂 I'm so glad your speech went well, even though you didn't feel like it in the moment! And what a kind professor to recognize that you chose to do something that made you uncomfortable. Those are the encouragements we all need!

Congratulations on your speech! As I listened to this story I realised that I could relate very much, but my approach is somewhat different. I recently had to make a speech in front of ambassadors via video chat. English is not my first language and I'm also scared of the camera. I was very nervous, and it went well, but I think it's precisely because I was nervous. Usually the more relaxed I am about something, the worse it goes. I guess there's something about the adrenaline of the 'stage fright', it gives you the right energy to make the right kind of speeches. And also the respect for the situation, because you don't get nervous about things you consider unimportant.

Awe, I knew you could do it! ❤️ Two years is enough time to forget the bad, so you can go through the experience all over again 😉

I was always afraid of public speaking and never really had to but working at Walmart and moving up the ladder I end up having to speak in meetings and eventually lead my own and it really helped make the only non-work-related speech and walk in the park compared to what I would have thought it would have been

You are so great Jordan! I actually watch this channel more than BlimeyCow and thats how I discovered you. You, Jordan, are so interesting and cool. I identify as a writer myself, even though I mostly record video games for my KZbin channel now. I have an unbelievable amount of anxiety and public speaking is definitely on my list of "don't ever attempt" but I know deep down that I want to publish one day and if I ever get "successful", that might be a reality. I won't give up. I don't know if this made any sense or not but I just think you're cool Jordan. That's all.

Any chance there's a recording of this speech? I'd love to watch it. And just like me, it seems like you're your own worst critic.

What has always worked for me was (a) sticking to just 1 point and reverse engineering the entire speech from there; and since I have anxiety from forgetting things I should’ve said, (b) thinking that there will always be another opportunity, big or small, to speak

Oh Jordan, see that. Failure can help us grow and does not define us. I am glad your life has continued.

Thanks for reminding me of my biggest embarrassing moment! I still want to crawl into a hole when I remember it. After getting over the above, Im glad it turned out well for you. Taking a leap of faith is so big and ask! But fail or succeeding....it's worth it to grow.

In my brain, when people compliment me on something I've done, it means I did something wrong and they're just trying to be nice. I can make the most normal thing stressful

I think the "don't think about it" method would freak me out more than anything if I was giving a speech. 🤣 I would need to prepare..a lot lol. Sounds like you did a really great job Jordan. Good job for facing your fears!
