Can you make a video on what a good starter colony would be good? Especially for kids. My son is terrified of ants, I was hoping there would be something that he would be more comfortable with, if he took care of some.
@jamieperry3731 Жыл бұрын
Honestly if he's terrified of ants, I recommend just not making him take care of ants. Can't force interest.

We had carpenter ants! Like, tens of thousands of them, eating our whole house. I slept on the floor it was a nightmare! We had to jump onto little areas without amts through the hallway, even the walls were covered. We jumped with slippers and the ants would attack with their jaw things and get stuck in the slippers! Could you tell me when the carpenter ants have their nuptial flights, as i have been trying to catch them for a couple of years now but have found none?
@turdFerguson5652 жыл бұрын
They tend to fly from April till May. I've found some in June but it depends on the weather. A rule with ant nuptials is they like to fly after it rains. It can be a day or 2 after it rains. If you can find a Male and Queen ant that is the most ideal because then you can put them both in a test tube and ensure she is pregnant. I've done it with most of my queens and they all end up pregnant

How old is a 100 carpenters ants colonies?
@TmanMoneymanISSUPREME11 ай бұрын
Depends on how they have grown, but it’s usually over a year, my colony of this species is 1 year and a half old and they have ~50 workers
@issifraser82122 жыл бұрын
Do you sell ants? Because I would buy a ton from you
@turdFerguson5652 жыл бұрын
Something to keep in mind. In the USA it is illegal to ship ants across state lines unless you get a free permit from the USDA. AntsCanada, Tarheelants, and Myantics all sell ants. Ants Canada has people who sell ants in every state and you can meet with them and buy the colony that way. Tarheelants and Myantics have permits to ship colonies across state lines. Make sure you check to see if they ship that specific species to your state as it would be illegal.
