I Gave My Foster Dog Back to the Shelter. 🇺🇦

I adopted a dog in 2008. She bit me the first day. I had to go to the ER and she had to get quarantined in case she had rabies. It took her a year and a half to feel completely safe with me. I stuck with her and when we finally bonded she became my best friend and lifelong (her lifetime) companion. She died a month before her 21st birthday. Sometimes you have to be really patient and loving with an animal.

I have never seen anyone recommend making a dog stand in a moving vehicle with such a short leash that they cannot lay down without strangulation.

My neighbor has a dog, now for five years (her first dog ever). She had to replace all her carpet with wood floors... he's eaten all the blinds and he barks All. Day. Long. Now she locks him in the laundry room 8 hours a day while she works. And only takes him outside 3 times a day, morning, after work and just before bed. She takes him on a leash for five minutes and never leaves him out to play. 😢 I've said to her, can you imagine if YOU could only use the bathroom three times a day and went outside 15 mins a day?! She doesn't get it.... I don't blame the dog or separation anxiety, it's poor ownership.

I rescued 2 dogs from Romania so feel I have a right to comment, people are right Lordy would have been better if Johnny had never taken him but every good rescue has an RBU in place so that if it doesn't work out the dog goes back to them. I know that's your way of lessening the guilt from your conscience. I've got 3 rescue dogs that get into trouble at times, but not once had I ever regretted taking them in. I made a promise to love them, shelter them, make them feel secure and provide everything they needed forever. Dude, you once referred to Lordy as a family member. What he did to your precious cables, wires and monitor is something that dogs do sometimes. Those can easily be replaced. However, Lordy, as a good and faithful dog to you, is irreplaceable. Fostering is temporary ownership - you take care of your foster pet as though it were your own ideally until he/she finds the right long-term, stable home. Foster isnt until i feel to give him back. Putting him on the balcony didn't help either. Dog needs familiarity with his spot. To know what edible an not. They also give back when you least expect. My sisters dog ate her steering wheel when she left him in the car, jumped up on the counter on Thanksgiving and dragged the roast down to the floor to eat...... she never gave up on him and he ended up being a wonderful dog until his death from old age. It's a commitment. That's why they always say "get a dog before you have children". If you can't handle the dogs personality, best not to have a child that might be adhd, on the spectrum, or just plain rambunctious because you can't give them back. Poor Lord, breaks my heart, another casualty of the war. If a foster home doesn't put in the time to train him he will just keep getting returned to the shelter by people who want to adopt him.

I agree,it's work. My adopted Mountain Cur chewed the corner off of one of my expensive oriental matching rug runners,she hides her bone under it. The rug is still there and she still hides her bone there and the chewed corner hasn't grown any~I'm fine and she's happy. I love her too much to let her go because she came from an abuse case~I am okay with all her quirkiness. We try,we put effort into making them better and not giving up.

My wife and I adopted a rescue dog 10 years ago. it took him a while to adapt and feel at home. I give you kudos for trying, it's not easy adopting a dog especially one that has war PTSD. You tried to give him something better than he had. This is Ukraine's evil neighbor's fault that all creatures, people and things suffer in Ukraine; they are to blame. This must have been very difficult for you to do, we all hope for that happy ending and sometimes it doesn't always happen as we want it. For the situation that you are in, I believe you tried and gave it your best Johnny; it wasn't meant to be. People need to realize this reality and situation is because of the war.

Usually when dogs destroy things it's out of boredom or separation anxiety. It sounds like he definitely needs a home with a backyard he can run around in. Probably a home where he can have another doggo friend to keep him company. One of my dogs had pretty bad separation anxiety and getting her a companion helped her out a lot. I know it's tough, and you're trying to do the right thing for him. I hope you're able to visit with him while he's at the shelter. With the renovations being wrapped up maybe he will be happier running around with other dogs. I see him wagging his tail in the shelter. I think he's happy to be with other doggos. ❤

A pet is for life I got a Australian kelpie for my daughter 2 years later she took her own life and now I am stuck looking after her dog I tried to give him away but luckily the local animal shelter was full and they didn’t want to take him so we decided to keep him and now we would never give him away he’s part of our family and we love him to bits.❤

Lordy was happy and wagging his tail when they returned to the shelter. To all the nay sayers i would like to remind you that Lordy is a dog, not a human being. My rescue did damage for about 4 months and then stopped altogether. Vacuum, computer cords, mattress, clothes.. it was intense but we made it through. Rescues are different than other dogs. 🐕 Hopefully someone will adopt him. He isn’t a bad dog just needs someone with a different life set up.
