In today's video I gave the removable panels on my mobility scooter a much needed makeover. I loved the old design that I did a couple of years ago but the paintwork was getting scuffed and chipped. We are going to an astronomy show on Saturday so I needed this to be finished and fully dry before Friday because we're driving up to meet friends for dinner and stay overnight.
The final step didn't go as smoothly as I'd hoped, but I still love the final result.
Materials used:
Sandpaper
Spray paint in black and pale blue
Acrylic paint in white, purple and blue
Fast cure epoxy resin - I used the JDiction 4 hour cure
A tiny pinch of several different kinds of glitter
Music in this video:
"His Last Share of the Stars" by Doctor Turtle from the Movie Maker built in music library

Definitely a step up in appeareance Mary, the glossy finish looks better too, quite distinctive. Sorry you had all the stress with the resin, it looked very tricky. Hope the show goes well. 😺

If you have ever watched tumbler makers they do this galaxy/nebula thing all the time with just resin, alcohol ink and a heat gun. It's super easy and random. Just a thought if you want to do it again. I will try to look up the one who does it so easy and explained it for people to follow.

Thanks Kera. All the nebula inspired resin art I've seen has been done on either a flat surface or on a tumbler that's on a cup turner so I wasn't sure I'd get the resin to stay put. I think it would definitely give a much better result doing it all with resin instead of painting it. I will probably order a new set of panels and give it a go when I'm not under time pressure!

I have tried to create several starscapes and they are very hard to make random and I agree that stars are the key to get that outerspace feeling. You did a great job despite the resin acting up, it looks amazing on the screen!

Thanks so much Mizz. I realised after publishing the video that I should have thoroughly washed and dried the painted surface first because any oils present can affect the resin. Next time I'm going to create something just with resin, no paint, and see how that goes. I'm going to end up with 10 sets of panels to use!

Love the look 💖 often happens when doing tumblers and is normally due to either the type of paint or a contaminant on the surface. Easiest way is a coat of clear between the paint and resin or a wipe with isopropyl and another coat(s). Looks fabulous anyway and only you know 🤭

Thank you. It only occurred to me after I published the video that you're supposed to let acrylic paint dry for a lot longer and then thoroughly wash the surface before resin topcoating. I've seen so many fluid acrylic artists doing this on canvas, but my brain totally derped on this project!

Thank you :) I actually wish I'd used entirely resin to create the space art like I did in my recent video when I made some wheel discs for my wheelchair, but I was worried it would just slide straight off the curved panels. I do love it though, because nobody else has one exactly like it :D

@@marymcintyresfxartcraft7417 yeah that's the issue with curved pieces. I wonder if you used them for a mold and did the whole piece in resin if that would work.
