Cute set of leaves, I do like the colours. Very odd about the curing issue.
@leetau84295 күн бұрын
your clay is no good, i have never heard of polymer not curing after 6hours. i have been working with poly clays for about 25yrs. Use one of the known brands but not sculpy 3! that is very probmatic and no good for jewelery or beads. i put mine in a cold oven on a ceramic tile, tented with aluminum foil. once the oven has reached the right temp i leave for 1 hr and wait for oven to go cold...since using this method i have had no more probs with burning or under curing. your leaves are very pretty, what a shame they didnt workout properly

You can dust your mold in corn starch then put your clay in I also will put my clay in fridge if it’s to soft to harden it up some. I’ve worked with clay for years. I’ve never heard of clay baking so long and not working…if I leave mine in over the recommended time which I did a few times it actually browned.

Thanks for the helpful tips Stephanie. I am going to try kneading some corn starch into this clay and do some test bakes. I have one block of branded Fimo so I'll test that alongside and see how things go. If I can figure it out I'll definitely try to make these leaves again!

They are so pretty, it's such a pity the clay isn't behaving. I think it's clearly the clay that's the problem. I've been working with polymer clay for over 15 years, here's a few tips: Get Fimo or Sculpey and the same leaves, cured at recommended temperature, should be much sturdier. The package usually say 15-20 minutes for that thickness, I would cure for at least 1 hour and then let it cool in the oven. Light colours can darken as most ovens don't keep a steady temperature. Place a sheet of baking paper as a tent over the clay to prevent this. You can use that on any colour clay just in case. Super soft (big brand) clay is usually very fresh and still has too much plastiziser and that can be leeched off. Roll it out fairly thin and place between printer papers (to prevent stains) and then old newspapers. Finally add something heavier like a book to press it down. Check after a few minutes and if the white paper is stained that's the plastiziser coming out. Don't keep it there too long or it'll be a crumbly mess insted! If you have stronger hands I recommend Fimo Professional, if not Fimo Soft. Sculpey and Soufflé is somewhere inbetween. There are also Cosclay, Kato and a few others that are big brands on their own but those are usually harder to get and more expensive. Kato for example also smells really bad in my opinion, even if Donna Kato herself is a darling in person.

I really appreciate those helpful tips Mizz. I've used Fimo before and had no trouble baking it but the two different generic brands I've used from Amazon are awful. You get what you pay for!

Very pretty! And isn’t Daniel Cooper just a genius?? Thank you!! 💐. P. S. Is there something you could add to your soft clay to firm it up? Maybe combine with a different brand of clay? 🤷♀️

Flipping heck that is uber soft clay. Could you dip your fingers in cornflour to stop them sticking ? I love the English mustard yellow it’s a gorgeous shade. How frustrating that it doesn’t cure properly. They came out so pretty Mary what a shame you can’t use them ☹️
@marymcintyresfxartcraft74175 күн бұрын
Thanks so much. I am going to try kneading some cornflour into my current clay to see if that helps but I'm just going to invest in some Fimo or Sculpy because both sets of unbranded stuff I've used have been awful to work with

I see people in comments here saying they're using ready ground coffee. I tend to grind my own so wondering whether results would be better if i used an espresso (finer) grind?
@marymcintyresfxartcraft74175 күн бұрын
I definitely feel the results are better with an espresso grind. I did find that the filters get clogged faster with the very fine grinds, but you can pop them both out, rinse them and let them dry for a bit, then gently rub them with a nail brush or old toothbrush. That knocks out most of the stuck bits, but if it's only you using the pod you can seal your mouth around each section and blow hard and that will clear out any other stubborn bits. Obviously I wouldn't do that if I was making a pod coffee for somebody else, but there's only me who uses the Tassimo in my house. Good luck!

When making the inlays in the molds, what do you use to keep the uncured silicone from sticking to the silicone molds? Silicone mold release spray?? Thank you!!!
@marymcintyresfxartcraft74175 күн бұрын
You can use mould release spray to help, but some types of silicone will bond to moulds that are made from the same type, and that will happen regardless of having spray in the mould first. The really high quality, dense silicone moulds I've found don't tend to bond to the silicone I mix, but it's always best to do a small batch test first just so you don't ruin a potentially favourite mould.

Love it~ I went to your other videos using the bottles....i was wondering if you tried to glue two together to make a full bottle instead of a half?
@marymcintyresfxartcraft741714 күн бұрын
Thank you. This bottle mould is quite shallow so when you put two bottles back to back it doesn't make a round shape. I do have a fondant icing mould that is much more 3D and it would work with that, but it would need to have the backs sanded perfectly flat, the edges sanded and probably top-coated to hide the joins. It would be worth trying it but I just haven't got around to it yet!

Beautiful 🤩 question… What’s that string called & do the silver part come with it ….all together it looks awesome 👏🏼👍
@marymcintyresfxartcraft7417Ай бұрын
Hiya, the cords are just ready made necklace cords from Amazon. The silver bits are called pinch-bails, and while some necklace cords do come with them included they're often too small. I had to buy some larger ones to use with this mould because the pieces are just a bit too thick to work with the tiny pinch bails. Hope that helps :)

Very pretty bowl, amazing how the resin is so clear like glass. Perhaps Santa will give you a pressure pot for Christmas! Any news on Slinky cat?
@marymcintyresfxartcraft7417Ай бұрын
Thanks Peter. I used the best quality resin for this because I wanted it to be really clear and the Apex resin is fab for that. Sadly still no news about Slinky. It's been 2 months now and not a single person in the village has seen him, nothing in any of the lost/found pet or nearby town and village community groups. I've spent hours out on my mobility scooter going around every street in the village and the edges of all the farmlands that surround us but absolutely no joy. It's really hard not knowing but I hope he's just found a nice place to hang out where he's being spoilt. We both miss him terribly :( Thank you for asking and for thinking of him x

Lovely! 💜 I do have a cute little flowerpress and planned to do something like this. Turned out that if I fill it to the max I might get as many pressed flowers as one of those packs and it takes minimum 4 weeks. I have also put leaves and flowers between A4 papers and newspapers topped with a pile of books. Still not more than two of those packs. So, a lot of work and time to press after gathering a nice variety, or clicking a few packs home within a few days. Yes, there are microwave presses but I don't have a microvave oven.
@marymcintyresfxartcraft7417Ай бұрын
Thanks Mizz. I was really fascinated by that microwave flower press. I suspect the electricity cost of running it to dry/press the flowers would end up costing more than it does to just buy them!

Thanks Amber. I don't know why I didn't think of using the Cuttlebug to cut foam before but it really did work a treat. The Sissex cutting dies are much sharper than the generic ones I buy so they'd be better at cutting thicker foam but for what I needed my cheap ones worked fine. I need some different fonts now!

Is that clear Uv nail gel? I’ve tried with a thin layer of Uv resin but didn’t work. I watched others do it that way but not working for me
@marymcintyresfxartcraft7417Ай бұрын
I've had issues using the normal UV resin but I've found that the UV nail gel worked better for me. It has its own brush and I just add a thin coat of the gel and I actually apply the foils before curing now because it works better for me. My UV lamp isn't brilliant and with the nail foils and some of the nail powders, you need to cure it just the right amount otherwise the powders or foils won't stick properly. If it's too wet it doesn't work, it it's too well cured it doesn't work. I guess if you're using the same products and same lamp all day long in a nail salon you will know exactly what to do but I haven't figured all of that out with my lamp. I just found curing after applying the foil was better. I hope that works for you

@marymcintyresfxartcraft7417Ай бұрын
So glad to help. I found that brand new the coffee is a bit flat but I get a better result once the filters have clogged up a bit! Now I remove the lid filter and pop out the one in the base of the pod, rinse them and let them dry first, then gently rub with a nail brush to dislodge the clogged bits. I leave some bits still clogged because I get a better coffee. I've now also found that espresso coffee grind works best, but you'll have to clean the filters more often when using it. Good luck!
