I had decided never to see The Smashing Pumpkins live again but I gave them a second chance live. Here is my concert review and reaction to the Smashing Pumpkins live show in O2 Universum in Prague/Praha from their tour The World is a Vampire 2024. The current lineup of the Smashing Pumpkins are: Billy Corgan, James Iha, Jimmy Chamberlin, Jack Bates on bass, Kiki Wong on Guitars and Katie Cole backing vocals and acoustic guitars.

Billy Corgan is definitely an underrated guitar player. There are old clips of him ripping some crazy leads, just improvising shit back in the day.

Billy Corgan was kind of the Kanye of rock before Kanye existed. He had the ego... But he backed it up with his talent. He's grown a lot humbler recently and it's rare to find an interview with him where he doesn't reveal something incredibly interesting about himself, the band or music in general. While he still doesn't ever seem like he wants to be there, I'd still give my left nut to sit down and chat to him for a few hours about music.

Corgan is intelligent, articulate, has a ton of insights into the music business and beyond, wrote a ton of amazing songs and sold bucket loads of albums, but "humble" and "BIlly Corgan" have no business being in the same sentence. I'm not saying he doesn't deserve to be, but a spade is a spade.

Dating myself… but I saw the Pumpkins back in 1992 at a venue called The Beach Club in Orlando, FL. The venue was ungodly hot and humid. Literally you could see condensation from the inside glass. At that time, all I wanted to do was to stare at d’Arcy onstage… great show, even if I sweated out 5lb in one night!

Took my wife to see them in Vienna, I hadn't seen them since the Infinite Sadness tour with Garbage. I was not disappointed, also it was my wife's first rock concert and she absolutely loved it.

I’ve seen them 7 times now! There were 2 shows that I wasn’t as happy about, but 1 didn’t include Jimmy Chamberlin. Even though my main instruments are guitar and keys, Jimmy is a significant part of why I like them. Anyhow, Corgan is a great lead guitarist. He’s definitely metal and classic rock/prog influenced at his roots. I like the shoegaze elements of the band as well though.

I saw them last month in Manchester, they were great. If I’m being over critical Billy’s voice is nowhere near as powerful (he’s approaching his 60s in all fairness) but nonetheless it was a great gig. Hearing Mayonnaise live was so special 😎 Glad you enjoyed the show in Prague

I've never been a big fan of the band, but always understood that treating the rhythm section like they were disposable was a mistake. Many bands with big personality front men seem to lose it when replacing one member . James I was never more than a guitarist that was willing to put up with BC's control freakiness, but augmenting with two young women just seems more like BC's ego preferences . Drummers are pretty damn important, - no getting around it.

They started at 21:00 here in Prague and ended just before 23:00. So looks like it might be tight but I would check the promoter or if there is a FB event with it as the timetable is often there and these times might be different in Athens. Hope this helps.

A very fair and I would say accurate review. I saw them in Manchester last month - supported by Weezer and it cost £85 for a standing ticket… I’ve been a fan since Bullet and have waited 28 years to see them… that song was amazing. The crowd went nuts.

Saw them recently. It was a rally good performance. Played 20 songs. The setlist is quite ok, I'd rather see them play other songs, but I really appreciate they showed up. Kiki is a good playershe did a great job, but she was dressed a bit differently than the others, more metal 😁 Why they picked Zoo Station? I have no idea. Kittie was great. Only negative thing for me: Billy didnt play Strats 😢 Billy is one of my guuitar gods. He and James are onemof the most iconic duos.

I prefer shows with less people. Much easier to leave the venue and avoid traffic jams. I saw Coal Chamber and Mudvayne at my local amphitheater during the summer of 2023 and it was only about halfway filled! Had a great time and when I left the venue it took me no time to exit the venue. The year before that I saw Helmet and KoRn at that same venue and it was totally different! LOTS of people leaving the venue at the same time and a bit of a traffic jam before exiting the venue!

I saw them last year and it was good BUT I saw Pantera and Lamb of God the night before so as much as I enjoyed the pumpkins, I really just wanted to go home and rest because I was exhausted from mosh pitting for hours the night before. Would’ve been better if pumpkins were first

I went to the 2012 Oceana tour. It was ok, but he mocked the audience for being lame, mocked the city for being cold, someone threw a can at him and got kicked out. Several old school fans were yelling “this isn’t Pumpkins” when they played all the techno stuff and walked out. Truth be told, they pulled an REM. Going soft isn’t what people want.

I went through the same thing. I saw them at lollapalooza at the gorge in Washington US, Siamese dream was my favorite album at the time. The concert sounded so bad me and my GF left after the third song and I stopped listening to them until several years ago. It was really bad, just loud sound with no definitive music. could have been the venue, mixing whatever, but it was the worst performance I have ever seen

Well the gig in Copenhagen in 2008 was awful, and that is not just my opinion as the reviews in the media agreed. I did not see the whole tour but I am just talking about what I saw . I've seen them a couple times, but not since their prime. IMO they are one of the worst live bands there is. Maybe they were good in the Gish days, but in their Siamese Dream era they were terrible. Their first 2+ albums were amazing though.

I've had a powerful dislike of Billy Corgan since long before his emergence as a fascist. Decades ago I worked at a restaurant than Billy , his mom and his aunt liked to eat at. They were always snide , rude , pushy and CHEAP. No one at that restaurant was ever happy to see those three.

Well that is an opinion just like any other opinion, I am not sure I would want to see them do some 40 songs or so to be honest, this was a good dosage

I saw them on the 2nd of July in Poland and I was very suprised how energetic they sound. Kiki is stealing the show obviously, but it seems they are all in good shape. Price of the tickets was crazy, therefore it didn’t sell well so you could get it for -50% discount on groupon. Initially i was not going to go but with the discount I decided at very last moment and I am glad I did. One of the best shows I ever saw.
