@@Sarah_Gravydog316 I dunno. Conan very clearly likes to pretend to be "mad" at Jordan for a lot that he really isn't, and he likes to blow up and make things chaotic and argumentative, for laughs. He pokes and prods Jordan a lot, trying to get reactions and to make fun of him. And Jordan just keeps on Jordaning, most of the time. Except when you finally push him a little too far, and he yells and actually says "the f word". But then calms right back down and goes back to Jordaning.

Rush has been my favorite band for 44 years and I never wanted to meet Geddy or Alex or especially Neil . He wrote the song Limelight about “I can’t pretend this stranger is a long awaited friend “ and I totally respect his privacy and RIP Mr Peart . I saw Rush 54 times from 12/8/85 to 8/1/15 and it was a hell of a ride 🥁👌😎😊

I must've seen Geddy a dozen times in Toronto over the past 40 years, just going about his day, on the sidewalk or in a restaurant or wherever, and for a brief second I have an urge to say something to him, but then I realize how I'd probably feel about strangers accosting me daily, regardless of their intent, and I say nothing. You know, now that I think of it, I don't recall ever seeing Alex or Neil, and I think that's because I never really watched their performances until recently, and just listened to the recordings, and on first glance they're just non-descript white guys like me, just 15 years older, so they didn't warrant further notice. In other words, I certainly DID see those two from time two time, I just didn't recognize them. But Geddy has always had such a distinctive look that you DO give him the second glance that makes your brain click.
@tenn_ore

Right? These guys weren't jerks about it, but they'd prefer to just meet a random stranger who had no idea who they were and just talk about whatever. If you want to know about the other stuff just read or watch an interview. They were interested in so much more than what they did for their day job.

Jordan Schlansky knows what he's talking about: I've got a number of versions of Moving Pictures on CD and none sounded as good as the original LP I bought back in '81. And that was the Dutch pressing (which was the one I got since I happen to live in the Netherlands). The clarity and punch of the LP was incredible.

Original CD pressings sound great too. It's because from the 90's on digital formats have been cooked to be LOUD due to the LOUDNESS WARS. New vinyl doesn't suffer this either because it's hard to cook vinyl to be overly loud. So recent Rush vinyl releases tend to sound good too.

As a Rush fan, Jordan is actually being fairly tame. Some of these Rush fans get into differences in snare drum frequencies from various master recordings or which pickup Geddy is using on his basses and the delay pedal settings in the effects chain that Alex is using. There’s serious dork levels to this band.

I love that they are officially an old fashion "comedy duo". The disfunction is so perfect.. and I admit I also search out the best mastering of my favorite records. He isn't wrong about the "loudness" war of modern masters. It takes out so much detail and nuance to the recording. Some music that doesn't matter, but some it matters quite a bit if you really want to hear precisely what the artist is getting across. Sometimes there are full parts far in the background of the mix that can't be heard with modern "loud" mastering.

I've thought a lot about this video, and I think about Jordan a lot as one does. I think Conan made him a bit embarrassed about his love of Rush and so Jordan downplayed it quite a bit, or tried to anyway. Most Rush fans would have such an exposed nerve on a personal level to meet one of the members and I think Jordan was a bit intentionally reserved about it in case Conan weaponized it against him for entertainment purposes, which he did after all anyway. If Jordan reads this, he can call me anytime and we can discuss Rush all day if he likes. Somehow, someway, a lot of us really get Jordan and can relate. Jordan is awesome.
