This reminds me of an old sci-fi story that I read a long time ago when I was still a teenager. It was from the perspective of a minor who was grown in a vat and taught in a school and had this thing on his neck that he could connect to other people with in secrecy or with the mining Authority. There was one particular scene I thought was fascinating where he enjoyed being on the conveyor belts and having them pump out the waist and pump in the food. He ended up starting a revolution against the mining Authority screaming at the top of his lungs but he could never hear it because his ears went out in the first few weeks that he started working there

The reason why that scene with him on the conveyor belt fascinated me was because he was always afraid of being washed in the washing fluid. Because one time the conveyor belt failed, and he had to fight his way out in order to get a breath of air
