I can’t recall ever not actually turning the meter on as I’ve pulled away but I certainly can remember one that’s always stuck with me over the 30 years and this was a lesson learned. in North Somerset we are allowed to charge extras for shopping ie Extra passengers, et cetera and this is done at the start of the journey whilst pressing the hired button. However on this particular fare I forgot to include all the extras and did it after I had pressed the total fare button the guy seen me doing this and absolutely went berserk in fact at one point I thought he was gonna give me a clout. He thought I was just bumping the fare up😂. I tried to explain but boy he wasn’t listening and if I recall I actually didn’t get paid!!! Lesson learnt!!

Charging for shopping and extra passengers sounds like a scam in fairness.

Most Licencing authorities used to allow an extra charge for shopping carried outside of the passenger compartment and passengers in excess of two could be charged for when I started cab driving it was 10 pence per item or passenger

That’s why when Bank holiday Xmas holidays etc come around sometimes the extras have to be pressed on by a different button, looks like bumping up! I’ve always asked for these extras to be shown immediately when the flag fall is pressed. Then it looks like it’s already included. I can always refer the passenger to the fare chart in the back if they get moody. Thanks for watching

Good to see you back and it was sad to hear you've had some health concerns. As a passenger if the meter didn't go on properly I'd like to think I'd ask the driver what a fair fare would be and add a tip on so I wouldn't feel like I was ripping you off. Mistakes happen after all.

Hi Mark, Interesting to observe as a Black Cab driver how much access to the bus lanes influences your choice of routes, and how much quicker you can get around London than the average motorist. This gives you a big advantage over Uber drivers……I wonder if everyone who prefers to use Uber are aware of this.

Good point! Uber have this year been trying to recruit black taxis on their app, they would love to promote the bus lane usp that taxis have, however no drivers have sign up to drive for them, or a least not enough. Thanks again for your channel support

Hate that left turn from Parliament Street to Bridge Street. Was OK in your movie but as you’ll know when there’s a queue every other mucker is try to push in. Yes we must’ve all forgotten to put the meter on, for me it’s when I’m distracted such as unsure of the destination or trying to pull out safely into moving traffic. Thanks and be lucky.

Surprising that tariff changes are not made over the air. When I drove a taxi more than 30 years ago in Norway, we didn't have to do anything. The meter was updated with new tariffs over the air as we drove. I also remember cases where I forgot to put the meter on. Often because the passenger started a conversation on the way in.

Yes I think every driver has done it once in a while. Normally my passengers I very understanding. I think there was a time when we had smart wireless meters now it’s done in house, as you can see doesn’t take too long. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻

Hi, and sorry for your illness. do you have insurance for illness or have you lost income? In Norway there is a period of 16 days without sick pay or I can take out expensive insurance. I have often forgotten to switch on the taxi meter since we have a pick-up rate.

@connectlogic don't have uber where I live. Council don't allow it. It's only local firms.. And it's swarming with hundreds of private hires in a small area..unless I work 70 hours I make £5 an hour... Even 70 hours would be £1050 takings. Extra outgoings on fuel and more maintenance would be another 100 or so.. That would leave 425 plus 175 from the 1st 35 hours so 600 profit for 70 hours.. Less than £10 an hour still for 70 hours..not worth it. Plus anything over 250 a week is getting taxed so the extra £ you make it's not an as much because of tax and Nat insurance so you end up with 500 for your 70 hours.

Yes I think that used to be the case. I used to get mine upgraded just off scrubs lane but then taxi world moved to Brewery rd. as you can see it’s just a drive in drive out process really. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻

A load of people joined my train last week at Clapham Junction heading to Ascot, problem is my train was fast to Basingstoke.
