I really really enjoyed this one. Such a unique episode. Felt more relatable from someone on the outside of the industry looking in. I've listened to everyone of your podcasts. This one really gave a good inside look of possible steps a less inclined person might take to get there. Makes me want to shoot my own shot. Thanks for another great story!

When I was 12 or 13, I crawled on my belly into my parents bedroom, lifted my father's laptop, and secreted it away to my upstairs bedroom. Then I connected it to the phone jack and dialed up a local BBS, the number of which I got from a similarly devious friend. I learned how to pick locks. I made a thing that went boom. I drifted away from this lifestyle because games were just too seductive. I always wonder what would have been had I stayed at the Dark Side of computers and networking.

@@xCheddarB0b42x That's the excuse you live by to justify your salary and shady activities. Hackers are hated by the powers that be. Unless they happen to work for them. It's McCarthyism with a digital mask.
@ImKinoNichtSabbeln
@ImKinoNichtSabbeln 8 ай бұрын
@CheddarChunguska The suggested justification can be applied to every ruthless, selfish behaviour. The point is: When being born, you develop and apply these techniques instinctively, and you are innocent. When a teenager or adult applies the same skills, it's a choice to manipulate and betray other people. So, no one should not celebrate "social engineers". That's a pleonasm, anyway. They should be named for what they do: They are manipulatists / con people.

May I ask why clicking on the link is a bad thing (if you are not a government employee)? Clicking on a link only tells you that the email in question has been read, which you can also do by putting a picture in the email? (And if the website contains a zero-day exploit then the hacker will probably get your information anyway)
