If they can back it up with the interior/driving tech and engineering...it could be arguably a triumphant return of American ultra luxury. A Rolls Royce (or least Maybach and Bentley) rivaling car that harkens back to cars such as the 60s Lincoln Continental.
@fenrirslip2 жыл бұрын
The Celestiq definitely looks like it's worth six figures compared to the disproportionate blob that is the EQS. I know the Celestiq is going the Rolls Royce and Bentley route, but I wanted to emphasize the fact that EVs don't need to look like eggs on wheels. In fact, if all EVs were to have this shape, everything would look the same. With Cadillac and Rolls Royce going in this direction, I've come to be a little more accepting of EVs. I still prefer ICE vehicles of course.
@mrsoisauce90172 жыл бұрын
I mean, EVs are superior in ultra-luxury vehicles where a smooth ride is favorable. ICEs start to become the favored choice in performance vehicles, where we want lightness and a good driving experience. This Cadillac and the Rolls-Royce Spectre are those ultra-luxury vehicles, and that’s where the EV powertrain really gets to shine. The smooth, quiet torque of the motors providing a seamless driving experience, and the lack of vibrations means u don’t have to smooth anything out. And because the electric motors produce little to no noise, the only sound u have to quiet is the road noise. So for a car like this Caddy, an EV powertrain is an absolute no brainier. My only surprise is that luxury brands like Cadillac and Rolls-Royce didn’t make the jump sooner

I actually really like this, even in the rear. It gives you something to look at. I even like the blue. I wonder if MB would go in a different design direction for their EQ Maybach models because their EQ lineup leaves a lot to be desired.
@anydaynow012 жыл бұрын
Yeah me too, the rear end is just a function of needing to get the best aero performance for highway range, a lot of larger BEV sedans look like they are going with some type of shooting brake or fastback hatch design.
@ryannatividad31372 жыл бұрын
Yes, this is far more unique to me. As nice as they are, Maybach always just looks like an overstyled aftermarket S-Class or GLS suv. A dedicated, differentiated design language, such as you get with Bentley and Rolls Royce will always look classier than a Maybach to my eyes. This will especially be a problem if Maybach begins taking the EQ models, as they already are lacking in the proportions and design stature of most previous high-end Mercedes models. They are far too awkward and Jelly-bean shaped.

The car is incredible and will look like nothing else on the road...as is appropriate. When spending that kind of money, you should stand out in the most prominent way possible. I totally disagree that Cadillac has a "ways to go" before regaining its title as America's premier luxury car brand. Cadillac has made enormous strides in revamping its cars and SUVs. They are competitive with the class. They've built some of the most impressive sports sedans in the world with their V-Series cars, plus their foray into the racing segment has been notable. As for the design, let's not forget that Cadillac's origin is French and the Citreon influences in this design, along with classic Cadillac cues, make for a stellar overall design. I love it. The Celestiq IS a defining moment for Cadillac. In my opinion, there's no longer a ways to go. They've arrived. Congratulations to the design team and GM for having the audacity to build such a car. I think perhaps you’ve missed the idea of the ‘hockey stick’ rear lights - yes, it sits in contrast to the domed rear hatch, but that’s the whole point, it allows the eye to see the rear as a traditional angled rear glass with a long low trunk lid, but gives the rear aero performance & flow and interior luggage space of a hatch. I personally think this is exceptionally effective and helps to successfully camouflage the rear end design changes that I hate in EVs, I miss the classic sedan shape. I just wish Bentley or Rolls had thought of it/produced it first!

I remember you making some similar remarks concerning the rear about its brothey the Lyriq, and I still completely disagree with you on that. That solution for the shape/position/angle/thickness of the main rear lights (as well as for the reflectors on the bottom, in the rear bumper) couldn't be better. Not only it creates drama, but it helps filling the immense volume that is the rear pillar in both models. Supressing that element or inverting it as you suggest would make the profile and rear views very unbalanced and look disproportionate. I have to say I'm usually not a big fan of american car design (because it repeatedly lacks design and fills that void with styling... and overstyling), but I think that this design language that Cadillac brought to these new huge luxury models is absolutely brilliant (and brilliantly executed too).

About the hockey stick taillight. I wasn’t sure about that either. But during the reveal video all the lights in the theatre went out, but all the lights on the car stayed on. The hockey stick taillights in the ear helped give the car the impression of an old fashioned 3-box silhouette. When I saw that a big grin went across my face. It was then that I believe I figured out the “purpose” of the hockey stick twilight: to cast a false silhouette of a 3-box sedan inside a 2-box hatchback. So, I came to like that. As for the garish blue: I agree. That’s not a good color for the car. I suppose Cadillac did this to signal to prospective buyers that “yes, you can have this car anyway you want it even in this garish blue color.” Maybe. I am not sure. As far as comparison to the Spectre. I don’t think, beyond the spec sheet, that these cars actually compare to each other because the designs are light years apart. If you are interested in the Celestiq, your not likely to care about the Spectre and vice versa because the Spectre and the Celestiq look a century apart. They go in complete different. The Spectre is very classic rolls Royce aesthetic, and the Celestiq is very high tech contemporary aesthetic. Very different buyers for these cars.
