James' analogy regarding the first cars looking like carriages and all is the perfect way to explain EVs with grills. He described it so brilliantly and with so many less words than I'd be able to. Lyriq is the best execution of a fake grill I've seen, but they're really unnecessary and honestly speak to just how risk-free and afraid car companies are.

Many EV front ends, Kia's, just remind me of when Mr Anderson has his mouth glued shut by Agent Smith. Fake and stupid
@zeeshanhassan8241

it makes sense for them to be riskfreea and afraid. they're investing hundreds of millions into their new car with the hopes that the customer will like it. should they stick with the OG designs? the ones that are proven to be likeable by consumers? or should they risk it all and make something like how BMW did with the M3 grille?

Or it speaks to how dumb and resistant to change we as consumers are. People like the fake grills. I like them
@Ksoism
@Ksoism Жыл бұрын
@@OutOfMemory07you are on point. I don't think car manufacturers are in love with them, but we, the consumers very much are. I still think that there is visually something missing between the lights off Teslas. But it doesn't mean that I like these fake thingies, either, I'm looking especially at you two, Lyriq and Ioniq 5. I dunno what there should be, but nothing looks weird and stupid shit just looks stupid and shitty. Not by much, I could live with both of those two, but they are just.... Trying too much. They are so "radical" and "out there". In the end, both are like graphic designs and details of 80's, there really is a lot of similarity. And they aged really well...

Yep, absolutely this. Modern cars are contradictory when it comes to safety. Brilliant crash and pedestrian protection - at the expense of weight and design variance - but then you have to use idiotic screens with a million sub menus. All that while trying to handle increasingly mental power outputs in ‘cars’ the size of Western Europe and with multiple elephants in the room. It makes no sense. Right, rant over.

I took delivery on my Luxury 3 Lyriq AWD fully loaded earlier this past week. It's an amazing car. It's luxurious. It looks way more expensive than it is. The ride is slightly harsh and I wonder if they could improve that with Magnetorheological shocks (magneride) as well. I guess they weren't ready for this car yet. But that's a minor nit pick: I'm totally happy with my car. I have the same Argent SILVER with Light-gray interior on 22's and the car looks like $100,000.

Customers considering this Cadillac probably aren’t cross shopping with the Mustang or Ioniq, because they are looking for that premium look and feel. I think its a fair comparison. With EV lines of cars now there is really becoming a lot less areas of things that these “premium” car brands can claim to justify their pricing. EV pretty much have the same power (or they all have enough that it becomes unnecessary to need more), as they claimed the suspensions/steering/torque/etc are completely comparable. Being an EV the interiors are probably comparably quite. They have comparable tech options. The only thing i noticed that had the an iqonic wouldnt is massaging seats. So if Cadillac/BMW/Mercedes want to charge $20000-30000 premiums still, what is it they are offering to justify it? Idk about you, but i think they will start losing alot of customers if its just interior materials and “feel”. Im sure a good segment of their customer base still sees 20k as alot more money they could put elsewhere

This year I was in the market, but the dealership said it would take 22 MONTHS to get a Lyriq with SuperCruise. Not to mention an awful dealership experience, maybe because I was under 30 and not wearing a suit. Ended up getting a Model Y. ID.4 was also a very close competitor, probably would have gone with that if it weren't for the Electrify America/ NACS news.

It would be better off just not being an EV. Insurance costs??Too high. Real life charging costs?? Too high. Repair costs after warranty/price of extended warranty?? Too high. Parts availability??Zero other than dealership=Too high. Battery degradation / actual mileage range / cold weather impact upon range(as much as 60+% decrease during cold weather(they live in Canada) And you'd better not think about ever towing anything with an EV over any trip other than something very local(see cold weather battery mileage minus 25%). Do you work for the oil and gas industry??? Your post is full of misrepresentations. Charging cost to travel 25 miles in a Lyriq is about $1.00 here in Washington. Interesting assessment - some things to note are that the fussy door handles have been completely replaced on all 2024 models with something akin to what’s on the Ioniq 5/6 albeit nicer as they have light bars in them. I was extremely impressed with both the design and build quality of the one I sampled a few months ago. Ride quality, cabin quietness, material quality, design (subjective but still), and tech were notably better in the Lyriq than the Mach-E. Also, you keep saying it’s 80k CN but then on the screen it shows that it’s significantly less than that…most other reviewers make note of how much value you’re getting for your money with the Lyriq. I’m not even going to go into how much better it is than the dumpy-looking Model Y…IMO Cadillac knocked it out of the park with this one.

So a few things: First the door handles present as you walk up on ‘24+ models. Second in the US there is at least an $8k subsidy plus $1.5k home charger credit, plus years of gas and maintenance savings you’re not counting into the “price” of the car, plus a 4-year warranty.

There has been spy shots for the 2024 Lyriq with real door handles. And there is apparently a V Series in development, and hopefully that will get the MagneRide suspension. So the glimmer of hope is that Cadillac is being proactive, and working on improving the car.

The 2024 Lyric has relatively normal door handles that pop out in the front and you pull them to open the door. This design was more or less a place holder bc it came out well before it should have. They have a lot of kinks to work out before it's really a solid vehicle

It would be nice if they reviewed the current model year Lyriq instead of the old one. The new one has the new door handles which is game changer for simplicity.

The fact that you have to point out *standard doorhandles* as a "gamechanger" says all about the level of lunacy current car design has reached. I just wish car makers stopped all this nonsense and focussed their efforts on actually building better cars instead of pointless, needlessly convoluted tech fests.

I have never considered Cadillac, but this vehicle and the price to quality ratio are very attractive. For under 75k CAD you can get a tech pack AWD with 500+ hp. That’s actually a bargain considering a Volvo XC40 Regen is pretty much the same price for similar quality (I have one), less room, less range and Android auto OS. A similarly priced BMW ix will cost you between 12-20k CAD to own over 48 months. These don’t look great, but they drive fantastic and have similar space. Plus a more sophisticated chassis. They cannot be had with a trailer hitch, so not great if you are a cyclist who needs a rack or need to tow anything A decently optioned Q8 e-tron has far less space in the back and seem to be around 109k CAD. I was personally underwhelmed by that car. But others love it. You could also go for a Genesis electric GV70 for similar money. I think that car looks less attractive but has a quality interior, less range but faster charging. A Jaguar iPace drives beautifully and has a fantastic interior, but is being discontinued and costs 118k CAD. Plus the back seat is smaller. I’ve had 8 Land Rover/Range Rovers over the years and love them. But a new sport is starting at 120k and can hit 175k on Autobiography trim. They’re nice, but really thirsty (15litres per 100km was all I ever saw. Even with my 2 door 6 cylinder Defender. We can’t really get the Phev here. The Ionic 5 vs the tech pack Lyriq is an interesting matchup. The Lyriq feels like 15k more car. The Kia EV9 is another option at this price point. I think it’s a great option for a Land Rover Discovery type vehicle. And at 78K CAD it’s very competitive, especially since it gets the rebate. But it feels a little more “family” than this car. So I actually think the Lyriq works as a competitive step up from some options and a step down from others.

I agree with the views expressed in this video. I've spent a limited amount of time in the Lyriq, and my initial impressions are similar. It looks great, but the doors are an unforced error (i.e., they kinda stink, in many ways), and the build quality doesn't feel anywhere near as good as it looks. As soon as you start touching, opening, and closing things, you realize that it all feels kinda cheap - way cheaper than it should. I've been in Japanese cars that cost half as much but all the doors, compartments, buttons, and knobs feel higher quality even though they don't look as fancy.

Same, it’s so close but not there. Also, the air vents simply cannot blow air upwards, meaning no air hits your face in the Summer. The salesman had never had that pointed out and after I did, all he could say was, “yeah, that’s not going to work in the South (US)”. He was so defeated.

First people normally don't cross-shop and Kia with Cadillac. A better comparison with the EV6 would be the Equniox or Blazer EVs. Genesis GV70 is the Kia/Hyundai equivalent. Second, the Lyriq gets 100 more miles EPA range than the EV6 - that's a big difference.
@pokerfred68
@pokerfred68 Жыл бұрын
@@theflew no one cares about range unless you’re traveling cross country. EV6/Ionic5 have better performance and are so much less than the Lyriq. Plus a better warranty. If cross shopping then the Model Y is quicker and cheaper in this realm.
@theflew
@theflew Жыл бұрын
@@pokerfred68 I didn't say anything about cross country. San Diego to Los Vegas is 6 hours, and Columbus to Chicago is 5 hours. Those are very normal trips. You keep bringing up better performance and quicker. That's great if you racing stop light to stop light boy racer style. Once again that's not the point of a luxury vehicle. The AWD Lyriq has 0-60 at 4.7 seconds. That's faster than most ICE vehicles and on par with other EVs that aren't pure performance versions. The EV6 GT is a nice vehicle, but I wouldn't want to ride it in on a 6-hour drive.
@pokerfred68
@pokerfred68 Жыл бұрын
@@theflew I said something about cross country…which is when range would come into play. For Lyriq money there are better choices unless GM wants to chop at least 10k off to bring in more customers. I’ll take fun over luxury and for Caddy money I’d better have some fun…the AWD version is the one that’s sub 5 second and 85k. RWD less quick and cheaper of course. The boys are also correct, make the doors easier to open, and why do you need to open the glove box thru the screen 🙄 Chevy Blazer SS should sell 2 to 1 over the Lyriq and will be about 15K cheaper.

GM nailed this - great styling and interior, competitive milage range, and can easily sit with much more expensive cars (this feels way more special than the mentioned $89k base X5, and thats not even an EV). The overly plush ride and moments of overly exuberant styling (the rear styling definitely challenges a bit) are all exactly what you want out of a Cadillac - this feels very spiritually on-brand and also makes total sense as an EV - I really dig this. When GM brings their A-game good things happen, and this one is worthy of praise for what was clearly a lot put into it.

Agreed with this. Good looks, great engineering, Interior looks great and has all the features, but needs some more time in the oven. The creaks are disappointing and its unfortunate. The vehicle started at a good base price and perhaps that caused the bean counters to cut some corners, or maybe they haven’t gotten their production line fully fleshed out. Needless to say the creaks are more perceived quality rather than actual quality. Let’s see if these things break or if they hold up reliably.
