My dad really liked Color My World. I grew up listening to it on 45. I always thought Chicago had a black singer that I never saw in videos or anywhere. Of course, I was probably 7yo (1981) so we couldn’t just look things up. I was SHOCKED the first time I saw Kath sing this. That was probably 35 years later.

Just so you are clear, Chicago recorded a 13 minute song called "Ballet for a Girl in Buchannon" also known as "The Ballet" and "Make Me Smile Medley", is a nearly thirteen-minute mini-rock opera/song cycle/suite from Chicago's 1970 album Chicago (also called Chicago II). It was the group's first attempt at a long-format multi-part work. "Make Me Smile" (Lead vocal by Terry Kath) "So Much to Say, So Much to Give" (Lead vocal by Robert Lamm) "Anxiety's Moment" (Instrumental) "West Virginia Fantasies" (Instrumental) "Colour My World" (Lead vocal by Terry Kath) "To Be Free" (Instrumental) "Now More Than Ever" (Lead vocal by Terry Kath)

Especially Terry's at the Tanglewood Concert. Terry was so underappreciated. Broke my heart when he died. And Tthe remaining original members have never fully dealt with his death. Lee Loughnane especially. He cries everytime he speaks about it. Robert Lamm and Walt Parazaider still struggle too. His death knocked the guts out of that group and they have never been the same.😪🥹

Seb you need to research The group Chicago.. Terry bought his guitar and completely broke it down then switched out different parts and put it back together. He would rig old parts together to create different sounds that he incorporated into his playing. From his wah wah peddle to his Amp to his guitar. Just a bunch of old musical parts. He didn't know how to read music but played everything by ear.

The brass section and Robert Lamm on keyboards were all classically trained. Danny Seraphino was the drummer and he was trained in a jazz style. Peter Cetera played bass. He was an accomplished musician in his own right. He played with a local group called the Exceptions. They were one of the top groups in the city of Chicago. He almost trained to be a priest, but he realized it wasn't his calling. Chicago is still going strong. But there are only 3 of the original members still with them.

@@francisseidel8014 This mythological quote has been used for Roy Clark, Rory Gallagher, Terry Kath, Billy Gibbons, Johnny Winters, Phil Keaggy and many others. Oddly, I haven’t seen a primary source for any of them. In some cases the guitarist mentioned is one that would have been nearly impossible for Jimi to have even known about. Yes, variations have been in print, but none that I know of that were actual interviews with Jimi. James Pankow said Hendrix came backstage after one of Chicago’s shows in 1969 and said, “You guys have a horn section that sounds like one set of lungs and a guitar player who’s better than me. I remember my older brother playing the Chicago Transit Authority (later the band was shortened to Chicago) album on 8 track tape. It was so different in 1969 that I couldn't help but wonder how a "horn band" was going to be successful in the burgeoning psychedelic rock scene. Chicago dismissed their doubters and continued to pump out hard rock, blues, jazzy rock and beautiful ballads while making the horn section an integral part of almost every song. They were so creative and talented that this 50 year old music still gains new, young fans today! I love watching these reactions today by guys like Sebs who realize we had something special growing up in the 60's and 70's.

One of the best bands to come out of the late '60's. Great musicians with great songs and terrific arrangements. Terry added a soulful, gritty vocal sound with amazing guitar playing that lent a lot of weight to their music. After his death, while they still produced great music, they just weren't the same. Later, when producer David Foster took charge, they released hits, but with a much more pop-ish sound and feel. Their music holds up decades later, as evidenced by Sebs reaction.

It might have been said, but I think this is from the whole side of the Color my World album. All the songs flow together and then the reprise of Make Me Smile. They had so much energy amd joy. Color my World is so beautiful and I love singing it. Love the flute. They are often called a jazz fusion band. I think jazz fused with rock. Timeless great stuff!

My first rock concert was Chicago at the Nazareth Speedway in Pennsylvania in September 1971. I was 13 and lived in New Jersey. I now live a few miles west of the long gone speedway and often play Chicago's music as I drive past the site. When I was a teenager and a horn player, I loved the horn section; as time has passed, I have become a huge Terry Kath fan. Thanks for your reaction videos, they always bring back such wonderful memories.

Your channel appeared in my Recommended feed for the first time tonight. I love all your videos I've watched thus far. Takes me back to a happier time in my life. This song has special meaning. It was 7th or 8th grade. We were being ushered into assembly and had no idea why. Sitting next to my best friend at the time, the lights went out, then what was probably a local band broke out into this sing. I'll never forget it. There's nothing like experiencing live rock music for the first time, darkness, then the loudness of the music, the lights. Wow! My best friend and I just looked at each other with our jaws open. It was awesome. I'll never forget it. I watched your 25 or 6 to 4 video, which is also one of my favorite Chicago songs. I have their entire anthology on CDs. If you haven't listened to Lowdown, another one of my favorites, give it a listen. It's very much a Vietnam War era song and very relevant today. One of the lyrics is, "Country I was brought up in fell apart and died."

As I have dove deep and rediscovered Chicago-I have gained enormous respect and awe of Terry Kath's talent. Holy effing cow! Our man could shred and sing with equal aplomb. I do love Peter Cetera and all the incarnations of Chicago, but man early Chicago was fire. You are now listening to one of my absolute favorite Chicago songs ever, Colour My World, the first song I learned to play on my piano...

All their songs are on full albums & ment to be listened to that way, volume up ,Quadraphonic !! Originally “Chicago Transit Authority” Nobody was like this Band ! so complex , soft & Mighty Powerful, legendary to last forever ! Who makes music, organically like this anymore ?

The amount of talent (including those horns), level of skills, and positive high energy are why I love them. Only other group I esteem as highly, is Kansas. Ps. Horns are brass instruments. The Winds are flutes and such.👍

Chicago (Transit Authority) was a "modern" big band/orchestra who owned it. Instead of doing anything quirky or cutesy, they just played full-on, letting us know, in the late 60s and onward, that tight writing (lyrically and instrumentation) was still a way to enjoy music, despite the fads of the times. They are embedded in my memory, much more so than many of their contemporaries.

My first memories of Chicago are with my older cousin in the early 70s listening to them then him playing his guitar as I sang the lyrics off a music sheet. I had so much adoration for my late cousin that I fell in love with Chicago because of him. I took trumpet in elementary school because of them. I was only able to see them live 3x and never with TK. Once with my 3 now adult daughters as their first concert when they were younger... Even with all the changes I still enjoy them.

I was born in 1963, south of Chicago (Cook County), and every weekend, when We would be doing our chores around the house (1 of 6 kids, so we all had to help out with cleaning, vacuuming, mowing the lawns etc.), and My mom would put on a STACK of Chicago LPs' to keep our moods up. Nice and LOUD!!! My favorite LP is their debut and Nr. 7, especially "Devil's Suite"

There is a Russian tribute band that’s called Leonid and Friends that does covers of Chicago songs. They are so good that they sound more like Chicago than Chicago. Incredible Chicago tribute band that is SO worth your time to check out. They are top tier musicians and when I first watched them perform, I was blown away at their talent. Their videos show them in their studio performing Chicago songs and to watch them perform is something to see. I would highly, highly, recommend you watch them. They are so good that even other reactors do reactions of their Chicago covers.

I really enjoy watching you reactions. To watch someone enjoy the music for the first time that I grew up with is wonderful. I was a Beatle and Beach Boy kid growing up, with a dash of Dick Dale and the Ventures (SoCal boy), but in 1967 I got to hear what the college boys were listening to at 2 am on underground FM radio (KMET, the mighty Met!) I was changed. Cream, the Doors, Joplin, Hendrix, the Allman Brothers, Traffic, Blood, Sweat and Tears, all the deep cuts. You get to hear them for the first time. I am do Jealous!

When I was a kid in Grade 7 and 8, I took Band class in school. I chose a Trombone to play. Mr. Fox, our teacher, gave us 25 or 6 to 4. We got pretty good at that amazing tune, at least, for a bunch of 12-year-old kids. I was so happy to play the trombone in that song, and our drummer, Phil, had a real talent and such high energy. That was my introduction to rock and roll, and Chicago. Thank you, Mr. Fox!

The acoustics at Tanglewood are marvelous. The venue was designed to host classical music concerts and serves as the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. I grew up about 20 minutes from there, but unfortunately I was only 6 years old at the time of this concert and not quite yet a Chicago fan. By the way, Santana also performed at Tanglewood that same year, and that concert can also be found on KZbin.

Man! I thought I was familiar with Chicago's music, but not quite. I went to see Chicago in Las Vegas at the Venetian Hotel theater (great venue for Live music) early this year and they sounded great. But I wasn't aware of this Live recording at Tanglewood!! All the original band members at their peak giving it their ALL. And what a great arrangement it is combining a high energy song with a ballad!! And the instrumental interlude at the end with tempo/meter changes. What a great performance! would've loved to be in the audience for such an iconic concert of a "Rock" band with a "Horn section" playing their brains out!
