Just so you are clear, Chicago recorded a 13 minute song called "Ballet for a Girl in Buchannon" also known as "The Ballet" and "Make Me Smile Medley", is a nearly thirteen-minute mini-rock opera/song cycle/suite from Chicago's 1970 album Chicago (also called Chicago II). It was the group's first attempt at a long-format multi-part work. "Make Me Smile" (Lead vocal by Terry Kath) "So Much to Say, So Much to Give" (Lead vocal by Robert Lamm) "Anxiety's Moment" (Instrumental) "West Virginia Fantasies" (Instrumental) "Colour My World" (Lead vocal by Terry Kath) "To Be Free" (Instrumental) "Now More Than Ever" (Lead vocal by Terry Kath)

My dad really liked Color My World. I grew up listening to it on 45. I always thought Chicago had a black singer that I never saw in videos or anywhere. Of course, I was probably 7yo (1981) so we couldn’t just look things up. I was SHOCKED the first time I saw Kath sing this. That was probably 35 years later.

Saw them live in '73/. Terry Kath was a monster. Best guitarist I've ever seen. "I love your band. One of the best bands to come out of the late '60's. Great musicians with great songs and terrific arrangements. Terry added a soulful, gritty vocal sound with amazing guitar playing that lent a lot of weight to their music. After his death, while they still produced great music, they just weren't the same. Later, when producer David Foster took charge, they released hits, but with a much more pop-ish sound and feel. Their music holds up decades later, as evidenced by Sebs reaction.

this song was written by their trombonist - James Pankow - and sung by Terry Kath, whose voice is often referred to as the white Ray Charles. Harmonies provided by Robert Lamm and Peter Cetera. You mentioned musical composers towards the end of the song - well - They all attended music schools in the Chicago area, (except Terry Kath - he was pretty much self taught !) and they fully understood music, and how to actually compose music to integrate all of it into such beautiful music. Make Me Smile ..Checking to see if you did the whole song of 13 minutes or just the Make Me Smile cut out. We were so confused when it 1st came out. You did the FM radio station studio version. But then when we heard it on AM radio it was a little shorter at the end.. So we get the album and surprise ... There was a lot more to this song and it's real name is Ballet For A Girl In Buchannon and it is 13 minutes studio version. 14 Minutes Tanglewood 1970. They also cut out .."Colour My World" ...from it It all has the do with the 3 minute time limit of AM radio which was standard in cars at the time.

On the 2 disc Chicago Album there is a whole side of one record with Terry Kath waling and experimenting with different add-ons and sounds left to himself (mostly).

The late, great Buddy Rich once said Danny Seraphine was one of the only rock drummers he liked. The whole band were phenomenal musicians.
