Possibly the first in a weekly series which I may title "Saturday Night Wine Chats", in which I will most probably discuss my experience of each past week.

This was great. I know those questions that prompt utter boredom as well; I’m sure they happen in all creative spaces. It can feel very draining~~

Oh, Eleanor! "...unproductive..." "...analytical..." "...utterly devoid of imagination..." I'm cut to quick, mate! Don't know that I could disagree more about this stuff, but it's always a delight to listen to you. Loved you on the most recent episode of Poetry Says, by the way. And I was with you on the Carl Philips poem. The best by a mile. Sometime I'll have to steal you from Alice and talk a little shop.

Love listening to you talk and who doesn't love a wine chat. So interesting, the difficult/ bewildering. I will now consider my life bewildering rather than difficult ( this morning I thought it and i were difficult) You sold me on Lucie Brock-Broido. I am reading The Descent Of Alette by Alice Noyley. Described as an epic feminist poem, heavily punctuated as to direct the reader but I'm having difficulty concentrating on anything other than the punctuation. Not sure how to overcome this and is it necessary for writers to direct their readers? Thanks for taking time to film, enjoyed.

Thanks for joining me! Oh my, the Descent of Alette ... I read it a few years ago because I was part of an online discussion forum about it. All those quotation marks, aaaiiiiii .... "I found them" "to be so" "difficult" "I mean bewildering". But now that you mentioned it I'm itching to return to the text and see how I feel about it years later. I'm so pleased that you enjoy listening to me, it means a lot to me!! Eleanor

Hey, say all those things about Matthew, but I, on the other hand, am a co-host of immeasurable imaginative talent!! Also, you are utterly right about Dickinson, and Brock-Broido is a glorious poet.

Wonderful chat! As a maturing reader, I often come across poems I once found difficult/bewildering/obscure and now find express an idea/emotion/concept more clearly than any long essay. There are many bad poems written in an effort to mask vacuity in false profundity, but good poems reward the reader by giving his/her own thoughts clarifying language. Sometimes it is the poem that is immature; sometimes it is the reader. I am not using the term "immature" as a pejorative. A poem that expresses all the emotions a mother experiences in childbirth will appear disjunctive and contradictory to most prepubescent readers. Sometimes a reader has to experience life to understand its expression in poetry. (Although, as a man, I have never experienced childbirth, I have lived enough life to understand a poem about any conflicting and contradictory emotional experience. :) ) And sometimes the reverse is true. "To Be, Or Not To Be" seems like a simple enough question--until you've lived awhile.

Hello, and thanks for joining me! What you wrote here is very helpful to me, yes ... the maturity of both the poem and the reader is such an interesting concept. I'm also very interested in what you say about gender and our ability as humans to understand the other via the shared experience of bewilderment. Thanks for listening and writing, it means the world to me! Eleanor

This was a good time! Those difficulty episodes of sleerickets got me in a huff and I have been going back and forth with matthew in email. Lol. I think poetry SHOULD be clear and when it’s not there is a degree of the poet hiding. But what I don’t know is if they are hiding be cause they are not ready or because they themselves are being difficult. With the later I think a lot of poets like that are like that to be cute. But I don’t know. Lots of interesting stuff to think about in your video. :)

Your prompts and thoughts lead me down very interesting and productive paths! What you wrote here about not knowing if the poets are hiding because they aren't ready or because they are being difficult... it sounds just like a relationship between two people. Ahhh... the erotics of language. Have you ever tried writing like that? Bernadette Mayer has a list of prompts for poetry writing (google her name and "writing experiments" to find it if you're curious). I think one of the prompts is to look in the mirror and write a self-portrait without using the pronoun "I". Thanks and warm regards from Oz, Eleanor.

@@theonlyrealproperty2567 I haven’t! I’ll check that out. I feel like I could do a video on all the stuff you talked about here and it’s funny because I forgot that something I said spurred some of this! Lol

Hi there! This is the first time I've seen your channel and I'm honestly really excited to continue watching more of you! I thought it was worth asking if you review "indie" authors? I've only been an author/poet for less than a year but I have two books out, one of which came out yesterday. Of course it's up to you the creator but I would be more than willing to offer up my work. If you'll excuse me, I'm off to appreciate more of your videos! :D
