I Got a Barn Find 56k Mile 2nd Gen Cummins!

After looking for years, I managed to track down a second gen! This truck is a 1999 Dodge Ram 2500 with the 24v 5.9 Cummins and only 56k miles! This thing is as clean as it gets, and an absolute perfect rig.

@@twayland6186 Nope. Of course if you go on one the 2nd gen Cummins Facebook groups, they will preach to you that "you should never pay more than ~$5k for any 2nd gen no matter what it is", lol. That is not reality though and we all know the desirability and what a clean lower mileage 2nd gen can sell for.

@@AustenARW there's a guy out a Syracuse New York I believe that buys clapped out 2nd gens and completely "restores them" allegedly. Then manages to sell them for the whopping price of $25-$30k. don't mean to bash him, but in my eyes hes a crook and washes up and hides all the issues, then claims he changes every nut and bolt. he's on KZbin he had me convinced for a bit. until I seen a freshly painted frame over what was clearly a rust pitted frame. anyways yeah the prices on 2nd gens vary so much and to put a limit at 5k is ridiculous.

Beautiful truck man, congrats! I was drooling over it in your other video. Simply amazing how brand new and fresh it looks, even while having that many miles, it's still astounding that the original coating is still on the exhaust manifold like you said for instance. The undercarriage looks like a new vehicle that you'd see in a showroom today. The driver side seat, no wear that you can see in the on the side. It is an amazing aspect alone that it wasn't driven in the rain either. That is a wonderful example to say the least. I look forward to your upcoming '99 PSD vs. '99 CTD video.

I have and 02 crew cab 5.9 Cummins white paint looks almost identical except I got some rust underneath from living here in pa and 205k miles on it you have found the best looking 2nd gen I have ever seen take care of that beaut

Glad you found this one. I recently bought my grandfather's '99 2500 with 108k miles. He kept it immaculate also. It was the first truck I ever drove as a kid and has a lot of sentimental value

Nice and clean ,second generation. my first truck I bought new ,1998 dodge 1500 with a 5.2 magnum engine , extended cab ,no quad doors, white sport model. Love the truck, but had to trade it in due to first kid and a another on the way. So I know how those two owners felt when they had to sell it. Plus it was a4x2 also.

Same reasons why I love these trucks. My dad bought his 96 2500 4x4 5.9 Gas new and I had a lot of good memories growing up with it. He sold it in 2004 to his good friend. Said friend parked it in his warehouse and never drove it. I ended up buying it back from him in 2017. Just now bought a donor low mileage 12 valve to swap into it making it how my dad wishes he could have purchased it new

Andrew, so easy to walk into a dealer and purchase a truck that every other truck guy has. Finding a 2nd gen in that condition takes time and in my opinion much more street creed with real truck enthusiast. The world of HD trucks has veered so far in 20 years that I laugh at what people are willing to pay for in a special name and a bunch of features that are Guaranteed to break. I don't know why they didn't have an option for aluminum wheels on 2nd gens but the 3rd gen 17's are a nice clean oem upgrade, and improves towing/handling with the shorter sidewall tires. Looks good.

My dads friend is 80 years old and he has a 2nd gen really clean and well taken care of and it has 150k miles on it it’s a 24valve 1999 it’s blue it has a exhaust and it’s really loud and he calls it his old thunderous blue and on February 6th 2021 he gave me the keys to his truck and gave it to me for my 14th birthday it was the best day of my life

Super stoked for you buddy, the truck couldn’t be in better hands. Your so lucky to find such a gem. I was just happy to find my 99 2nd gen Cummins from New Mexico where it has ZERO rust.. frame looked like it came off the assembly line tho the body was rough, scratched, and dented as it was a work truck the rest is cherry. It’s hard to find these trucks with out rust so I’m doing everything in my power to keep it from ever rusting even tho I live in the salt belt NY state.

Just got my 2nd gen (sadly a magnum not cummins, probably gonna change over in the future lol). It's been my dream truck since I was about 9 or 10. MN truck so not quite as pretty as this one, but it's only got minimal rust (barely started on the wheel wells, someone really loved this truck before me too haha) for 190k. Love these beasts, even just starting it's enough to give me a thrill lol. Love the easy maintenance as well, not like some newer makes/models *cough* chevy equinox *cough*. (My sister's 08 equinox has more guts and has pulled more overloaded stock trailers out of mud than moms 00 silverado, will say that, but damn, getting to the tranny to check fluid or even the headlights is a full days job). Well made and good looking 2nd gen truck, glad to have found this vid. Fun to see as I plan what to do with mine lol
