Hi, licensed Cosmetologist, hair extension and wig specialist here! She first of all very likely overcharged Heather (at least for my area and my opinion it could be different bc heather is in a different area than myself) but $250 to install a wig is already a lot of money and she didnt even do that good of a job. If she was going to charge that much I would have expected her to do so much more or at least with far more skill. Most people that do wig installs will do the following: prep the wig (BEFORE THE CLIENT COMES IN) by plucking the hairline, bleaching the knots, cutting the lace (some people do this after they glue down the wig) and possibly prestyle it, next she should have done at least 10-20 smaller braids (these braids are called cornrows) bc heather has so much hair they need to be smaller so her hair lays flatter, then glue down the wig cap (i will give her credit here she did do a decent job at that but the wig cap was HD so its not too complicated), and then place some kind of makeup or color on the lace of the wig, glue it down and "melt" the lace, and styled it (wether that be a cut and curl, whatever). The only other thing that could justify that cost would be an extra charge bc Heather has so much hair (some stylists charge extra for really long and full hair). And finally yes she very likely damaged your hair with the cornrows/braids. You should NOT be losing clumps of hair from having a few cornrows in your hair for less than a week. The braids were likely way to tight and fucked up heathers hair. Yes heathers hair is a little more delicate when it comes to cornrows but ive had and seen plenty of girls with loose curls or european silky textured hair (aka white girl hair) that have safely gotten wig installs and had no issues. And in terms of heathers stylists tyoically installing medical wigs that tells me all i need to know. Typically clients that get medical wigs have very fine hair, may have thinning, hairloss, or alopecia, or may have no hair at all (i know bc i ahve several clients that are medical wig users) so therefore there is usally no hair to braid down and the installs are wayyy simpler and easier and may not even require glue. Anyways, im so sorry this happened to you heather!

Unfortunately corn rows are culture approation at its finest African hairstyles remember

@THEWEIRDOGOTHVAMPYREWITCH I'm half black, I'm well aware of cultural appropriation. Respectfully pls don't speak for black people unless you are one, though with that being said black people are not a monolith, we all have differing opinions on cornrows and how that plays into cultural appropriation vs appreciation
@maijacriner-harrison51617 ай бұрын
Amen.. I am half black, too. But I'm so tired of hearing about Cultural Appropriation.. Because black people wear wigs and extensions that make their own hair look like white people's hair. So why is it alright for one race to do it , and not another race? And you know I was thinking, it was too bad she couldn't have found a black woman to do her hair.. You know, with good credentials of course! Her wig install would had came out so much better! Also, they would have gave her good tips on how to use use powder or a little foundation to disguise the lace.
@wednesdaybelladonna72127 ай бұрын
@maijacriner-harrison5161 yes! That's the way I see it too! I almost commented exactly what you said about a black stylist but held back bc there are amazing stylists of all backgrounds. But we definitely know that a black stylist with good creditionals would absolutely slay her wig
@wednesdaybelladonna72127 ай бұрын
@maijacriner-harrison5161 also I did read just now some of the comments basically saying also that she should have gone to black stylist and Heather has replied saying that the stylist was black. So atp I feel like it might be more of a creditentials thing

As an inexperienced wig wearer, I would looooove to see a video on how you glue down your wigs! They always look so fab!! Much better than this "professional" install 🫢 Love you, thanks for sharing!!

i'm not an expert, but about the hair loss, i think that might be normal, since an average person loses about 100 hairs a day. when your hair stayed braided under that wig for a few days, it just summarizes. please correct me, if i'm wrong.
@Ghostefox6 ай бұрын
Came here to say the same thing! Her hair loss was because the hair still sheds but It has no way to fall out. Like people who take out there dreadlocks have so much hair loss when they unstyle them.

Your eyebrows looked so good matching the wig! WHAT IS YOUR SECRET!? I flinched when you talked about hair loss. Ugh. I know how traumatic it can be. I once used a shampoo & conditioner that had almond oil in it. I didn't even think about the fact I'm allergic to tree nuts when I got it. Then my hair came out in clumps. I was freaking out! I hope your head/hair recovers soon.

Your natural hair is so pretty tho!!!! I thought you liked wigs because your hair was thin like mine but nope. It's cool for fun too tho.

No it’s very normal to lose that kind of hair when you are braided. We loose 100 hairs per day. I understand how you feel. I was freaking out the first time I took my braids out.

You had your hair braided and it was contained. You normally lose approx 100 hairs a day. So a lot of hairs coming out of the braiding is normal and it will happen even a few days after. I do my own hair in locs using crochet method and leave it in for a month. The last time I did it I lost loads of hairs on taking it out. Your hair will recover. Treat it with some nice hair oil and hair masks. Don't put it in tight styles for awhile. Brush it gently from tips to roots. You will be ok. It was an experience . But just not one for you again. ❤

Hey sis if you have a bigger head (on top of your tons of hair) a lot of the Amazon wigs can be too small for your head. Honestly temu has a lot of big head/thick hair friendly wigs (and there are other sellers too.) Also she could have modified the wig by cutting the wefts in the back to make it fit your head/sides better too. I’m not an installation expert, I just love wigs. I usually wear synthetic tho because they’re cheaper and I love changing my hair too much
@MK_1Ultra7 ай бұрын
I use lace tape in the parting to disguise the lace grids. I wear wigs very often, so once you get the hang of it, you can be a pro. Braid down is also personal, I feel bad you lost so much hair with the tension😢 that's scary.

Great look with the short wig! And I bet it was a bit of a curiosity since you have such long hair. I've been looking at getting into doing wigs and wondered about how these types of installations are done, how long they should last, what they would look like, and what clean up would be. A while down the road after your scalp has a chance to rest, will you do a full wig video of how you put on your wigs, and the products you like to use?

As a cosmetologist who doesn’t do wigs, She’s probably not used installing weaves on people with as thick of hair as yours. If she installs medical weaves then she is most likely used to people who have compromised hair already coming in for hair enhancement so it’s not a bad install just not the right type of install for Heather’s type of hair. 💜

You should have went to a black hair stylist, they would have definitely give you baby hairs and it would have looked natural, also the wig wasn’t the best quality, it would be better to spend extra for a quality wig.😊

I hope u have a better experience btw some stylist will install with gots to be as well

I commented earlier about hair shedding and deleted it because now I have a different opinion on my last comment. Usually we shed hundreds of strands of hair everyday naturally so I didn’t think she did a lot of damage to your hair but if it’s coming out in clumps and it’s still coming out now that you have the wig off then she probably braided your hair way to tight. I would watch for breakage too. But if you had the wig on for a few days then I would expect some shedding because it was in braids and wasn’t brushed so you will definitely have some lose when you take the braids out and wash and brush your hair. I went to cosmetology school so I do have some educated knowledge on hair. If it continues to come out in clumps I would go and have a license hairstyles look at it and see how much damage y9u have. Because she/he might be able to recommend something to help
