What I gathered from the film is Orlok was a simp & can’t handle rejection. She wanted some ages ago, but now she’s switched up & found a husband, so she rejects him. he can’t handle it, so he travels countries to be a home wrecker & sleep with Thomas’ wife whilst killing friends & family around her. Not sure if anyone said this and I’m way late but they get the curls to stay by heat setting them. It’s the same way you style doll hair, wrap the strand around a cylinder and tie it off then dump it in hot (not boiling) water
