I read books on my ipad occasionally, but much prefer a physical copy of a book. Ebooks are always cheaper so I'm able to see if I like a book without paying $20 for it first, but if I really love a book I'll always buy the physical copy. Physical books are just so much better, but ebooks are convenient.

I received a Kindle a few years ago as a gift and wasn't sure I'd like it. The best part is you can download a book as soon as you want it. Also, I like to read at night in bed and find it a lot easier to hold a kindle than a large hardcover book. Not to mention you can change the size of the font to make it easier on the eyes. The part I don't like is I like to read series of books and it's hard to tell which book is next when they don't say book #1 and book #2 etc. Maybe I'm technically challenged, but the books are all in one large list and looking around for another book to read isn't that simple. I only recently discovered you can navigate to the cover of the book... A kindle is great for traveling vs packing a huge pile of books!! Not to mention those of us who buy books rather than borrowing from the library. I am no longer drowning in books on shelves, on tables, on the dresser :-) I have a carry case from my kindle I got from Amazon, just search and you'll find all kinds. I have the one that has a cover, so it protects it when traveling. It's nice to hear something positive from a true book lover like yourself.

I always thought that I would never get an ebook reader, because I love holding a physical copy of a book in my hands. but for years I've been struggeling with reading. depression made it almost impossible for me to concentrate on anything that's longer than a tweet. a few months ago I purchased an ereader (not kindle) and I realized that reading ebooks is so much easier for me at the moment. it actually helps that I can't really see my progress. in the past I avoided books with more than 250 pages because it felt like I could never make it through and I never did. now I can't see how thick a book is and it no longer matters if a book has 100 or 700 pages. and what helps the most, is that you can change the font to a bigger size. reading larger print is less overwhelming especially if you struggle with staying focused. I hope to get back into reading "real books" in the future, but I'm glad that after so many frustrating years of not being able to read I finally found a way that makes it possible to enjoy reading again. that's actually something I wanted to tell you in the comments of your last video, but I forgot. I guess it fits for both.

This was a lovely video Candice, it was very well done :) Some people have a very negative attitude towards e-readers. I think that anything like this that gets people reading more is a good thing :) I currently use a kindle, read books that we already have at home, scout them out in charity shops and occasionally buy them new! Literature can be obtained in so many ways :).

I found the percentage thing really difficult to come to terms with too! It's strange not knowing how large the book you're about to read is or how far in you are/when the end of the chapter is!! It comes in handy though! :) I have the kindle fire HD and it can read out loud the books for you if you're busy cooking or your eyes are sore! :) must look into that £7.99 subscription thing for Uni books! I find your thoughts interesting. Currently, one of my classes this semester is called 21st Century Literature and our aim is to read 10 ebooks in 10 weeks and observe the sufferers between reading on an e-reader versus physical books. Just a few weeks in and I've noticed pros and cons to each. It's certainly interesting, and I think I'll have a balance between ebooks and physical books.

I bought a Kindle just over a year ago when I went travelling. At first I was one of those people that hated the thought of not having the book in my hands, that it would ruin my reading experience, but I was so wrong. It has been so beneficial for me to have one, it saves me loads of money and shelf space and it's great for all of the travelling I d, especially just my commutes to and from work. Like you, I put 400 page hardbacks in my bag and at this point it's just not working for me :') So more Kindle books for me hahaha

I have such a personal conflict about the kindle haha. I totally get how cool it is to have any book at your fingertips in a moments notice but for me reading is one of the few times I get to completely disconnect from technology and the very plugged in world we live in. Also, seeing my bookmark more than half way through a book gives me way too much happiness and sense of accomplishment as silly as it seems! Lol constantly thinking should I give in and get one?! But honestly whatever keeps people reading makes me happy! Enjoy your kindle and happy reading :)
@zeebrown10079 жыл бұрын
+Bri Bergin I agree with you so much! It's so satisfying to watch as you get you closer to the end of a book, and I love holding a physical book in my hands :) But yeah I guess a kindle is alot more practical :)

I have a kobo (an ereader like the kindle that's only sold in a Canadian bookstore chain) and I loved the idea at first because, it means that no paper is being used and because it's portable, but I can't get used to it. I have the same problem you have with not knowing how far I am and how close I am to the end, but the kobo also has other features besides just reading and I tend to get distracted by them. I do still really like my kobo and it's great for classics because if they're in the public domain it's really easy to get them on ereaders for free, I just don't use it as often as i should.

I got a really beautiful Kindle cover for $8 (American) off Amazon, but saw the same thing on ebay for around the same price. There are so many - but if you search ,like I did, or say "butterfly kindle cover" or "blue flower kindle cover" or just narrow down what sort of thing you would like, it's easier. Because the choices can be overwhelming. also - my Kindle is my life... I do not own a kindle, do not use them, not opposed to them though and I suggest We Were Liars by E Lockhart. Because the book is astounding, the writing style has such indulgent imagery, the author has such a good ability to keep suspense however it is rather short (just over 100 pages) and the current price of the book is around 7 pounds. So I can imagine it might be cheaper on Kindle. Happy Reading :D

I'm split on Ebooks. At the moment I use iBooks semi-regularly for classic books and plays e.g. Jane Austen and Marlowe.
