G'day Everyone. Things start to get out of hand as I make very questionable life choices and we set to work on my latest project.

if you scored a new project and it was just dandy, then what would be the fun in that ? lol. besides, the learnings that us commoners get from your builds are priceless and for that we thank you. Frank

Very true Frank, things that are in good running condition just don't appeal to me that much 😀

With your skills mate you’ll be driving that Rex hunt special in no time! Great video, you and your dad work well together 👍🍻

It will be a super fast rebuild that's for sure. I need to get it in the road so I can actually have a car to drive again 😀

I'd be drilling and tapping a couple 8mm holes in that gear and a piece of 6-8 mm plate and try to wind it off with high tensile bolts and some "gentle " jolts of the air hammer. The young lad probably couldn't believe his luck when you turned up. Looks like you've got hours of "fun" ahead of you. Cheers Eric
@HarpersShed6 ай бұрын
That is exactly what I'm going to do mate, I will probably just use the harmonic balancer removal tool I have to pull it off once I have tapped the bolt holes.

Yup thats a project 😮. 500.000 just run in eh😅. For cost of new engine might as run with it.😅 This gonna be a good one to follow. Trucks a bonus some nice add ons as well. Crack on Fulla.😊
@HarpersShed6 ай бұрын
Yeah 500k is really nothing to be to stressed about with the old patrols. Give it a birthday with some wheel bearings and swivel hub seals and it will be good for another 500k. Oh and an engine rebuild lol

Got plenty of heads around here for dirt cheap. But none of them are for your engine, and definitely not local. I can get Jeep 4.0 heads all day long for dirt cheap here in Texas. But those heads nor the location will be of any use to you. Good luck on the project! I have 4 project trucks I am working on and the budget always gets in the way. 1985 Dodge D150 1989 Chevy 1500 1996 Ford F250 5.8 Gas 2008 Ford F250 6.4 Diesel Should have at least 2 up and running by the end of spring. :)

I've seen a guy use an air hammer to get tightly fitted keyed centrifugal clutches off small engine crankshafts.... might work here.... impacting on the end of the crankshaft.

Thank you mate, and your right. As much as it frustrates me I do enjoy the challenge of getting something that's ready for the scrap pile and bringing it back to life.

Well that got blown to bits in a hurry Tim, you do love the battle and that's why you punish yourself 🤣🤣 At least its not that bad that a replacement engine is on the cards, so that's a big plus. Have fun mate, see you next week

Thanks mate, yeah I really need to get it all back together and back on the road as soon as possible so I can actually have a car again. Right now we are down to one car and it's a bit of a pain 😔
@joelnagle22146 ай бұрын
You striped that down fast 🙂 I was thinking you where gonna sell that engine to one of them cashed up VL enthusiasts and put a diesel in it? Quite surprised to see you keep it, can't wait to see you get it running again.
@HarpersShed6 ай бұрын
Lol I need to get it up and running again as fast as possible so I can have a registered car again. It will get the diesel engine eventually but that's even further away from being ready.

Morning mate. Only no content is bad content. I am living vicariously through you. See its your mind that makes sence cause you see what you can do. A wise man ( me ) said people bring me there junk cause who am I going to ask how to fix it? Me! So I am the fix I figure it out, my job. We just crossed the equinox so spring on the way for me as fall or autumn is on your way. Keep the wet side down mate.

Apparently wax penetrates really well with a little heat.
@GBCobber6 ай бұрын
As for the head. There are vidoes on head straightening with a mig welder. I'd just try the same thing you did again and let it sit through a decent temperature change or two. A little heat while it's under strain, then an ice cold night, might just sort it out.
@HarpersShed6 ай бұрын
I will give it a search on KZbin and see what I can come up with. I will definitely bolt it back down and put it through some heat cycles with an oxy flame to help normalise the alloy
@philipstreechon45236 ай бұрын
What is it worth as is and worth rebuilt, and cost of your replacement then decide good luck .
@HarpersShed6 ай бұрын
I will be into the rebuild for around $400 in parts but that's provided I don't have to get another head. You can get a complete engine for around $1500-$2000 but then you still run the risk of it being no good either

With the engine opened up, why would you not put new rings,bearings, and seals? Unless your goal is to do this with the least amount of replaced parts.
@HarpersShed6 ай бұрын
The goal for the build was to do it on a budget and replace parts on condition. I did replace every gasket and seal on the engine and also did the rings. The bearings were in good condition and well inside tolerance so I didn't replace them. Things like thermostat, spark plugs and other general service items are also new.

@@HarpersShed I love your content. After I posted my comment you answered that. I have watched you from the start of Kiara but I especially like your engine builds. I always learn a little something. When I was younger and on a budget I did the same thing.
