I'm so thrilled I subscribed and that KZbin sent me a push notification about your new video, Amruta. I'm moving over to tech writing after many years of ESL teaching and academic copyediting, and your series has been godsend for me. Location flexibility is very important to me, too. I live in rural Ireland, which means a long commute to any major city. I'd rather invest all that unnecessary travel time in greater productivity. Hi Amruta. Great video. It would be great if you could make a video on location independence. I think a lot of us are in the same boat with changed priorities after the pandemic, and the video could help a lot of people in understanding what is a location independent job and where to find one.

Congratulations, Amruta! Could you touch more on your experiences as a developer advocate and the dislikes compared to technical writing? Do you also think one should begin as TW before becoming a Dev Advocate?

The main reason I pivoted back to TW was that I found the DevRel role to be much more stressful and lacking work-life balance than tech writing. The field needs to mature a bit more and the roles need to be more clearly defined for it to be a healthy choice for me. I absolutely do not think one needs to begin as a TW before becoming a Dev Advocate -- that was just my path and definitely not a requirement.

I was listening to your experience and thinking to myself, her new job sounds so cool, and she's doing many things I currently do! That made me happy because I've been working for a year with a startup from Colombia in a 100% remote position, and I love it. Currently, I'm the only writer, and I've had the opportunity to restructure and improve the complete documentation, which I appreciate because I'm in an environment where everyone's opinion matters, and if you have a point, you get the freedom to implement it. I'm not looking for a job currently, even though I get contacted weekly by recruiters, but when I heard your offer, I’d be lying if I said your message didn’t interest me. I love my current company, but it would be super cool to work with you because your channel is one of the first I found when I started learning about technical writing. Suffice it to say, I'll be checking that link in the description, and congratulations on your new position!

I'm going to be pursuing Bachelors in Computer science next year from Canada and I'm thinking to take my minor as "Creative writing". So is there any possibility that I can end up working as a technical writer if i want to in future or i might have to study something extra for that

I write technical blogs on different technologies and want to become API documentation writer. But, almost no companies are hiring fresher API writer. They want experienced ones. Can you suggest me how to get API documentation writer job without experience? Please help.

Build a portfolio! The question to ask yourself is why would a company hire a new API writer with no experience and no portfolio when they can hire an experienced one with a strong portfolio? That doesn't make business sense. So help them see the business value in hiring you.
