When you're finished running your nitro, always remember to never leave fuel in the tank and run it dry (at idle) so all fuel is run out of it. Also it's best to give it a squirt of after run oil down the glow plug hole and this will help prevent the engine from corrosion.

Just a heads up, it's a little lean on the idle. Might want to turn the low-end needle counterclockwise a quarter turn. You can also just back out the high-end needle on the top of the carb a quarter turn first to see if the idle stays steady and does not climb. Just a change in elevation or location from your friend's place puts it out of tune. As little as 500 ft elevation can change the tune or humidity, Once you figure it all out it becomes 2nd nature and you will have it running at peak all the time. Running a bit rich is always better than a little lean. Congrats on the sick buggy! They are much easier to drive than electric because of the roll-on power and they're just smoother IMO.

I haven't been able to race nitro or electric since 2013. In the RC world there isn't much better than nitro racing. Traveling with your buddies to a race for the weekend, pitting for each other, racing with other people from around the country, and completing those awesome 45-minute or 60-minute mains. Joe if you end up getting that far into the RC rabbit hole, it will be amazing to watch the highs and the lows of the journey. Smoke on brother.

Welcome to the dark side! I race the Mugen MBX8TR Nitro Truggy and the MBX8R Nitro Buggy at Silver Dollar Raceway Amain Hobbies Track. So much fun. If you're ever in Northern California you should come hang out and race or just have fun running the 1/8 scale track. Always pinch the fuel line to turn it off so that fuel doesn't sit in the engine and carb and contaminate it. You got a sick nitro burner! I love both electric and Nitro. They both have their place. Nitro just sounds so cool when a bunch on the track together racing.

Wow that rips around the Exoplex pretty good. I’m pretty sure with some tuning it will be easily under 18 seconds. Pretty awesome of Clayton to send that your way. It sure looks like you had a blast ripping that nitro buggy around!! I do miss my nitros but electric was the easier way to get my young kids into rc with me. I used to race an Rc10GT 1/10 gas truck in the mid 90’s. Pitting for fuel was always an adventure and time consuming. I always like to watch the 1/8 scale buggy’s after my heats. 1/8 scale were like rototillers to the track! I raced both elec & gas 1/10 Trucks. I am a motor head and loved gas but as my personal business got busier I dropped the nitro racing. Nitro requires more commitment of time to clean and service the rigs. As you know you can race electric’s put them away warm and be fairly certain they will be ready for you the next time. Back in the day I also converted my .12 gas truck mtr to diesel! It idled & ran better with easier tuning. No glow plugs, compression only starting, and they started good. A little more power, reved to the moon and was at least 50% better on fuel consumption. ( no snake oil here!) really! You took a standard OS .12 mtr, Installed a Davis Diesel head and away you go! There was Davis Diesel specific fuel required. After field testing I started to run my Diesel in the 1/10 scale nitro races. There were no rules specific to fuel heck it was all nitro!! After a few weekends of racing I was doing real good! That’s because I only needed to pit only maybe once. Others “nitro” were pitting a minimum of twice. I got noticed, complained about, and was told no more diesel! 😮 Bummer So I continued racing my elec truck but just bashed my Davis Diesel race truck. Davis was making conversion heads for r/c airplanes for years before they made a head for car engines. For the same reasons of more cleaner power and fuel economy. I still have my Davis Diesel head with all my other 1990’s gas & electric rc stuff. Crawlers have recently got me back into the hobby. No gas crawlers though lol! Nitro is alot of fun for a while. But you probably will love even better your electric car that is alot cleaner and is waiting for you when you don’t have the time for the gas car cleaning routine. That’s probably one good reason why you can just about steal a good used nitro car! Keep up the great channel. You seem more relaxed in your videos since the change. 👍

Nitro Buggies are the only Nitros I'd own. Kyosho MP9 is awesome, the rest of my Rcs are electric though lol. Glad you like it, dont get sucked in because the buggies are the only ones worth it IMO.

Im currently building my 1st "Real" Electric. Only had Gas & Nitro since the 70's ! Up until the last several years electric R/C's were just crap. Lipos seem to have changed that. I can certainly see benefits of electric and I'm super excited to finish my build, I'll always be partial to Gas & Nitro. The sound & smell....Mmmmmmmmmmmmm

Never let the tank run dry because it will start to lean out , no good for the motor and always put your piston at bottom dead center when done so the motor doesn't cool and stretch out the sleeve.

Nitro's are so awesome...they are more work than electric but that won't be a problem for you 💯 you can shut off with blocking the exhaust tip, but little better to pinch the fuel.line....

Be patient and you’ll get it! Nitro is a whole different world. Lots more maintenance and cursing from time to time lol. I love nitro and glad you had some fun!

Is there any of the correct oil on the air filter? Learn to adjust the mixture very often. Actually any time the sun goes behind the clouds you can adjust it. Run it on the rich side to help keep it cool. Run it to hot( lean ) and it will kill the motor in minutes. Actually as the tank empties they tend to lean out so technically you should tune the engine with half a tank or less then put up with it being slightly rich on a full tank. When you spit on the engine it should not be so hot as to sizzle. In my opinion it was a little lean in that run.

nitro is by far my favorite. when its good cant be beat. all the whine about it not being as fast as electric are the people that dont understand its not all about being the fastest. if it makes you smile and is fun thats all that matters. once you get the tuning part down its all good. it did sound very lean tho

Nitro is the GLORY !! Everything else pays the bills. That trackstar engine was the best bang for the buck at $80 but it is longer available. You can get addicted to nitro pretty quick 😂. Also, get the habit of checking the position of the piston when you are done running it. Should always be at bottom dead center.

Nitro is the best and worst all at the same time. Sounds like it can stand some tuning a d clutches seem to engage at pretty hi rpm... You should have your temp gun with you to check running temps so you don't burn it up.

It’s always fun seeing someone getting their first nitro kicks! I started with elec in the early 90s and wasn’t until around 96 I got my first taste of nitro and although there’s pile’s of hot tuned brushed motors and an unhealthy amount of brushless gear it’s nitro that’s on the top shelf!

Another awesome video! I know they're not the fastest and baddest anymore, but there's just something special about nitro rc! I like to run clear fuel lines so I can see when the fuel reaches the carb at start, and you can see the fuel bubbling in the lines when it runs too lean.

Very cool. Welcome to (imo) the best / most fulfilling corner of the rc car hobby! Recommend to pre heat before starting, and Always put the engine at bdc after you're done running before it cools down to prevent damage to piston and sleave. After run oil is a good idea too, as you likely won't be running that thing weekly.

Have a temp gun help alot with tune it does look lean on bottom from video and temp gun will help to determine that by temp at idle and alway after run spray wd down carb and done let fuel sit in it the methin fuel is hell on bearings just like big cars after doing some side work working on people's gas numbers one failures was not running them dry then lube with oil base spray always bearings issues or just ruined motors from sitting and corrosion ruin it keep up good job .

You'd friggin love a Kyosho Mad Crusher/USA1, by the by. One of the sweetest running engines in the hobby sits in those trucks. 3 speeds. 45mph flat out. Live axles front and rear. I love my MCGP one of my favorite RCs.

Most times the engine will wear and loose compression and as it does so it will have trouble idleing and as a result we have to tune and mess with the engine constantly as we run it ...a new engine runs great and yelds way less tuning and maintaining vs a engine with 3 gallons under it belt

I have 6 vintage nitro cars and a buggy kyscho and thunder tigers they are shelf queen's as I can't get the parts but they do run I want the kyscho 1/8 race nitro buggy or a 5th scale buggy not sure yet I also have 2 nitro boats as well they are all good fun and very addictive enjoy Joe you will have many more I am sure 😂

take that huge heavy battery out and put a hump pack in it. plus spray your sand down with water so theres traction then put pin tires on it buggys will traction roll at the end of the straight from having too much grip . the whole reason to run nitro is to be light that way you can distribute the weight on the chassis better . if your gonna get a nitro only one to learn from is www.youtube.com/@AdamDrake

Run any 30% nitro and 9 or 10% oil. That's what I run on all of my nitro savages. Avoid traxxas top fuel because it has too much oil content.

meh..I had nitro LST's and TC3...couldn't wait to convert the LST's over to electric and the tc3 sat in boxes when the electric version was in my hands...sooo tired of having to change glow plugs multiple times a day.....struggling just to get it to fire.....broken starting wands or pull cords....the mess of the fuel...nope...electric is way too reliable...nitro sux..🥴🖖🏼

They are noisy, messy and when they start giving you issues (shutting off/stalling, refusing to start, etc) the list of variables you need to run through is huge compared to electrics. When I got back into the hobby 13 years ago I got a Revo 3.3, my first nitro. It made me want to quit the hobby again.
