I Got a Pet Mallard!!! Meet Our New Friend "Greg"

In a search for birds to use for dog training, I was offered this Pet Mallard (Rouen) Duck. We named our new friend Greg and he's currently residing in the old Pigeon Coop. We are going to get a short fence to place around the coop so he can get out of the coop and have room to wander a little.

My mallard is a house duck. I’m raising him to stay in the house. I have six pekins outside and 7 chickens.

You should let him walk around the garden. Ducks like eating grass and the bugs and worms. Good idea to fence in a small section of garden. He also needs a big pool of water, like a kiddy pool or something. In my experience ducks and dogs don't work together very well.

I live in the Twin Cities in MN. Have always wanted one. Can they survive the Minnesota winter outside?

I always wanted a pet duck but sadly where I live farm animals aren’t allowed as pets. I also worry about hawks and Coyotes getting my pet duck too.
