Ok so several friendly tips, from someone who has grown these for years: -Always feed bits of food smaller than the trap so the trap COMPLETELY closes and seals around the food -They only need like 3 traps worth of food every month or two. Too much more could cause trap rot -Do not trigger the traps when not feeding. It makes the traps die faster -Keep in full sun -only use distilled water. They need mineral free water -Mine likes to sit in a very shallow dish of distilled water -They like a dormancy period in your fridge over winter Good luck with your flytrap!

Activating multiple traps at the same time can kill your baby fly trap! Also, the smaller the pieces, the better your plant will do. If its too big, itll just let it go in a few hours- potentially causing rot or mold on the plant :( good luck with your new friend!

I feel like she did everything wrong when it comes to feeding, 1. They need live insects, if you give it a dried one it will just think that it’s a leaf or a piece of dirt that fell into the trap, then it will just reject it. You said that the plants can think it’s a live worm, plants can’t think, Venus flytraps need constant movement for at least 4 hours to know that the insect is alive or not, warm water doesn’t do anything. 2. They are plants, they can only eat what fits into their traps, giving it a larger worm just makes the traps rot. 3. You shouldn’t over feed it, over feeding it is just like over fertilizing it, a few bugs per week is well enough for these plants. 4. your plants definitely ist eating the worm, you can see it eating only when the plant shuts its traps completely and when it starts to secrete digestive juices. Please do ur research before buying these plants, don’t just get your info from just one source, go visit sarracenia northwest or visit some trusted sites.

You actually need to stimulate the trap so the plant knows it's food. Any twig or stick falls on the plant won't be digested because it doesn't move. The more you move the meal worms in the trap the more digestive juices the plant will secrete and easier will be the digestion. 😀
@alchemy6488

It doesn't really "eat" the worms it only breaks them down into simple chemicals to get some of them that it needs to live. It still uses photosynthesis to stay alive and have food. "eating" living organism is just evolutionary kinda bonus.

Congratulations on your new plant! Venus flytrap’s are really cool and I really fun but there are some rules you have to follow or else they will die. First never water it should sit in a small dish of distilled water at all times replace the water every month . Second, you may want to put your venus fly trap in a decorative pot but never do that instead leave it in the plastic pot it comes in ! Third, make sure your Venus flytrap goes in a south or west facing window, right in the window, not away, but right in the window cell or on a shelf near it. Hope these tips help

THAT PLANT’S DECEASED!! 💀 Because, you shouldn’t feed it food that’s bigger than its traps, plus you’re WAY over feeding it! Also, be sure that it gets plenty of sunlight so it can digest those worms. (EDIT) I just googled it, and it also says to make sure only one of the traps is feeding at a time.

I haven’t even had a flytrap that long and this makes me cry, one tip, make sure to give it food that will fit inside completely! I use mealworms that are longer than my flytrap, but I kind of scrunch them up so they fit. It not only makes digesting easier, but if you do it, it could deform the leaf.

Two things . 1. If you feed a Venus flytrap a dead bug it will not eat it , it will just spit it out . The reason is , they need the big alive , so that it’s still moving , and so that they can digest it easily . 2. Don’t feed your Venus flytrap a big to big for Its head . If the bug is to big , the head will turn black and you’ll kill it. Btw I own one and have made these mistakes as well , luckily it’s still alive

Don't be concerned if you kill it because they're very finicky if not kept under the right conditions. They also go through a hibernating like period during a certain time frame and will begin to appear dead, which is when a lot of unknowing owners trash them. So whilst very fun to look at, many people struggle to see these things survive past a couple months if they aren't tending to it properly. Lots of people also keep them in the house without realizing how much light they actually need to survive because they are actually outside plants. BUT, some people do successfully cater to them indoors. Regardless of the fact, I hope your enjoy your journey as a new (or renewed) plant mum! ALSO - another thing. People suggest not over feeding them or feeding the same head repetitively BECAUSE the traps will actually DIE after a certain amount of feeds. Once they reach that amount they turn black and can be trimmed for aesthetic purposes but only trim the black - never green as it's still living and provides nutrients to the plant.

When the flytrap can't fully close it's traps, it allows bacteria to enter and those bacteria causes the trap to rot. I wish people would have done more research before buying plants. I had researched every bit of information regarding mine right there infront of it in the shop before buying.

How fun! Awe it looks bound up and too cluttered, I think you're supposed to separate plants that get concentrated like that. The roots probably need fresh soil and more space.

And don’t feed it bugs that are too big for the trap For example if the bug is hanging out of the trap then the food is too big The food should only be a half or a third of the fly trap size

So here is a tip when feeding the Venus flytrap, the more red they are the more hungry. So the more green ones have been fed and they don't need more :)

No offense but since you said your opinion of mealworms i feel comfortable saying mine.So I do not think they are gross When i was in 3rd grade i had a pet mealworm that soon got set free like all the rest of my classmates mealworms. Fun fact:Mealworms turn in to beetles if they complete all of their other life stages.I feel like if you work with animals you think are scary or Gross then you will like them more and not think then are scary or gross.Sorry if this comment feels offensive. Also keep up the great work with all your videos

So actually whenever the Trap feels something in its mouth it was still lightly closeit but what it actually does is it needs it to move around and touch the hairs in the back of its mouth and then they know it's live and that's whenever they will eat it so what you should do is move it around in their mouth for a little bit

I think the oversized worms will cause indigestion for your fly trap and it’ll start rotting! I saw it on a video where the plant owner was raising one herself and got asked a lot of this plant dies cuz of a indigestion and ya..

They only need to eat once every week or so. They are native to bog like environments with low nutrients and that's why they are carnivorous. Water with distilled water and use soil with no nutrients for repotting. Keep it moist and it also has a time where it goes dormant in winter the leaves will die but they will come back

I really wouldn't feed it. You have to know that dead insects are not good, i'll try to explain why: the leaf of the plant has 6 tiny hair which are called triggers. As one of them is touched once by an insect a timer is set, in fact if another (or even the same again) hair is touched within 20 seconds since the first one was touched, the trap will close and until here nothing bad. But the digestive fluids are released if a third contact occurs and this happens only if the insect is still alive but if it is dead it won't. In fact you will probably see it open in 1 or 2 days, but to digest a pray that big it might take even 15 days and it is very stressful for the plant, it might die. If you want to feed it give it only alive insects, and then DON'T feed it that much, it isn't necessary, it is enough to feed it twice or three times a month. They are not very easy plants to grow so please pay attention. I hope you'll read this comment

I would start farming some insects, because venus flytraps need live prey. It's not the texture of the food that gets the flytrap to eat it, it's the struggling of the trapped bug. These plants have little hairs inside their traps, and digestive juices will only be secreted if something rubs against them enough times.
