Thank you for sending me down Memory Lane! I had a similar toy sewing machine as a child in the early to mid 1950s. I remember the chain stitches it made. My mother sewed most of her clothes on her old Singer, along with making my clothes and my younger brother's and sister's clothes too. I would get some of her scraps to use to make very simple doll clothes and doll blankets. I even had a small, child-sized electric iron and a small ironing board. I remember she would mail in labels from Wright's rickrack, seam binding, etc., then we would get packages full of odd pieces of ribbon, rickrack, piping and other similar notions to use.

I also received this very same sewing machine as a child. It only made chain stitches and I was very frustrated with it. I was 5; that would be about 1948. After that toy, I made my Mother share her Singer Featherweight! My parents paid $100 (that was a lot of money then) for the Featherweight around 1939. My Mother made awnings for the office on Main Street for their creamery in Whitefish, Montana. I still have the Featherweight; quilters desire them and these old machine sell for $500+ and they still sew beautifully and are very lightweight. That toy got tossed! It was cute.

Oh my gosh! That Betsey machine is so stinkin' cute! The fun thing about these old "toy" sewing machines is that they were built to work and to last. I hope you get the hook issue resolved quickly. I can't offer any useful assistance in that matter, but I can't wait to see her working smoothly again!

Oh my goodness! What a cute little machine! There are quite a few vintage sewing machine (VSM) groups on Facebook with some really knowledgeable people who restore machines. I'm sure someone there will know exactly what's going on with your hook. Be careful, though! Collecting vintage sewing machines is very addicting! LOL! Hi Lucius! I have a furry, black quality control feline too!

This was a cute machine! I'm keeping my fingers crossed the solution to fix the stubborn piece is resolved so this machine can be of use as well as display. I wonder if it was used for that mini mannequin lady ( can't think of her name) that voque or some sewing or pattern company created where people who were learning to sew made really clothes in doll form for the mini mannequin. This also reminded me of my first sewing machine which was also a toy, I think it was also made by Singer back in the 90's. The best part was there would be no fear of adding too much pressure on the peddle because I was always afraid of a sewing machine because if the needle went too fast I'd accidentally sew my fingers together. However, it didn't have a bobbin part so the stitches didn't have too much support and were more like weak whip stitches that wouldn't hold long enough to even hand stitch a more secure hold on it.
@PocketFullofPoseys3 жыл бұрын
This does a chain stitch. There's no bobbin so you have to be careful removing the fabric to make sure the stitches don't unravel.

There should be a screw that holds the looper hook into the cam (the round part that the looper hook slides into). There is a screw hole in the cam piece. A small grub screw or even one with a small head would be ok.

Very cute little machine. You have a very thoughtful husband. I hope you were able to retain the original suction cups. You may be able to coat them with ArmourAll to possibly restore them. You may be able to fix the little broke part by gluing it in place with epoxy. However, before doing that, I would check with a Model Railroad Hobby Shop for additional advise. It would be nice to have the little sewing machine working 100%.
@PocketFullofPoseys3 жыл бұрын
Great advice! The original suction cup feet were really brittle and a couple of them were cracked. I think I put them back in the box. I'll have to check!
@raymondsvensson29353 жыл бұрын
@@PocketFullofPoseys I hope you did put them back in the box. The value of the sewing machine will increase if it has all the original parts. You could also check with a fishing reel repair man or of course a sewing machine repair man on how it can be fixed.

This is a chain stitch machine. (No bobbin) so stitches will be alil different. But I dont think the hook shouldnt fall out like that but I do think its removable maybe it isn't in correctly.

Hi Lucius! That’s a cute machine!! I hope you can get the hook issue fixed. I have my mom’s toy sewing machine, but I couldn’t get the bobbin figured out (It looks like a suuuuuper tiny vibrating bobbin maybe?).
@PocketFullofPoseys3 жыл бұрын
This one doesn't have a bobbin, it just does a chain stitch. It would be cool if it did have a bobbin.

When a young boy our nephew announced he wanted a sewing machine like Auntie Carole! He was given a toy one for Christmas. We were over one day and I was asked if I could get it working. Now, I'm pretty handy with sewing machines. A good hour later though I had to admit defeat. No matter how I tried it, the thing just wouldn't thread properly. Then I discovered the country of manufacture - China! It was a toy, yes. It should have worked and one little boy was left most disappointed. You're looks like it's made of stronger stuff and with some extra tlc it might work well. Anyway, I hope so. Oh, and your husband is wonderful to choose something he knew would delight you.
@nettie6073 жыл бұрын
That is such a cute little machine! Does is sew like a modern machine, or is it a chain stitch? I'm baffled because there didn't appear to be a bobbin thread.

I found a cute little machine at a thrift store I would guess from around the 50s or 60s. It was electric and had the tinest foot pedal I've ever seen and a little carrying case. Its gears moved but the needle didnt move at all so it had some internal issues so I didnt get it. But I do hope someone will fix it up.

These are extremely low quality machines and not made to run long before worn parts stop them from stitching. There is no fixing to the cheaply made parts. I have two of the larger ones with motors and they are both a headache and only one works - sort of.
