I love the piano scene because of what is not said. It is clear that Aisling has a lovely voice with perfect pitch yet has been bullied by Jenny into a supporting role despite Jenny having a rubbish singing voice and no self-awareness. Nevertheless Jenny has friends who still like and support her. It's sweet.

Aw thankyou! Yeah I reckon Aisling is legit Jenny's biggest fan and thinks she is amazing 😆

I love when people are fully transparent about what a job entails! I'm not an actor myself (copywriter/editor) but a lot of what you said-esp about feedback-applies to any creative job. Everything is a lot more flexible than it seems. Hope you had fun in your swing dance class (yes I did see your insta story lol)

Ahahaha! brilliant!! Yeah I think embracing the flexibility of it can lead to a much more peaceful and positive experience. My swing dance class was wonderful, thankyou for asking - though my ronde needs work ;) x

Coming from a huge fan of the show. Derry Girls was so much more than a mere comedy show. When I first heard about the show after season one came on Netflix I really thought that this would not be something I would be interested in. After a few minutes I was hooked the writing, cast, production everything involved with the show was unlike anything I have ever seen. Even to this day I find that there only two groups of people whenever you talk about Derry Girls. There are the people who love the show and the people who haven’t seen it. Aisling has always been one of my favorite characters. Great video girl! For fans of the show this was simply fantastic! Thanks so much.

i just want to say that i love this video so much! especially the casting director bit; i'm based in the US at the moment so the actual content of the email is a bit different (you would introduce yourself and your main area of work and then ask if they're currently open for submissions instead of submitting your materials right from the get go; this also might vary as well depending on if you're in LA or another part of the US) but i think actually putting yourself out there to casting directors can be an overlooked area. it's all well and good submitting to roles on Backstage, Actor's Access, and Spotlight, but giving the casting director a little bit of a reminder as to who you are alongside those submissions is so, so important! idk, i feel like a lot of the advice for actors just starting out focuses more on the casting sites and not other ways you can make yourselves known, so it's good that you made a point of mentioning that! and then as well, making sure you have a monologue/short piece ready alongside your show/demo reel is another overlooked point! it's definitely good to make sure you have your show reel handy because a lot of the times a casting director will ask for it, but it shouldn't be your only piece of work ready as a casting director may not want to see you polished and directed; they just as likely want to see the actual you! this comment ran away from me a bit, but it's a very long way of saying that this video was amazing and i wish more actors were able to see and use it as a resource!

I appreciate this so much!! Thankyou! Cool to learn the different format for emailing your information. And although I have other tapes and scenes alongside my showreel currently, I've been thinking about writing a couple of new ones to film and picking out traits or a character type that I think I'd fit/love to play and just making a short self tape style scene for each. So this feels like a good sign to get started on that. My head truly swims when thinking "what type of character would I like to play" so I can start by finding some clarity on that. Thanks so much for your comment x

“It’s March 17, I’m now puppeteering on Star Wars…” Casually toss that in there! I’m slightly torn because it would have been great to have seen more of you as one of the core 4, but Aisling was played to such perfection that I can’t see she would have been my favourite character with a different actor.

Amazing - love it! loved hearing the journey! I started with the extras dept on derry girls season 1 in the church scene with the kids from Chernobyl! (I had to sport a nifty moustache). I ended up dancing with a tie round my head to the commitments playing Proud Mary a few years later in the final episode. Next week I have an audition with an Emmy award wining casting director for a role that spans 2 episodes of high profile crime drama. This business is mad but I love it!

So fascinating to hear more detail about the casting process in screen acting. Never realised how it's so rare that you hear a response to the outcome of an audition. Think a lot of the advice you've given here are things which everyone can take on board for job interviews generally, especially the trying not to think about it once you've done it. Aisling was also one of my favourite characters on Derry Girls, well done for bringing her to our screens.
@YoungsterBeccy

Yeah, the never getting responses from auditions you work really hard for is one of those things I just accept about the industry and then sometimes when I say it out loud I'm like "wait that SUCKS", haha. Thank-you so much for holding Aisling as one of your favourite characters! That's such an honour x

@@YoungsterBeccy It takes a lot of courage to put so much of yourself out there publicly. To tell your own story, and to also help others along the way. Just shows that you are, indeed, a genuine person. This is probably the best video I've ever seen on the entire audition process (and I've seen quite a few over the years).

Thank you for sharing your story, I absolutely love the show and Aisling!! Acting is no joke! I want to be an actor but I have nothing but a high school diploma to my name and I'm also 26 😭 my window has passed I feel.
@YoungsterBeccy
@YoungsterBeccy 6 ай бұрын
I totally understand feeling like your window has passed, but this industry is so non linear that I would say if it's calling you to go for it. You could get a headshot, make and tape and submit it to some casting directors and some agents and let them know you're there. I never went to drama school either - so it's definitely not a necessity. You don't have to drop your life and move to LA or anything. It's something you can start building into your normal life x

I’m absolutely enamored with Derry Girls. We just watched the talent show episode. I’ve been going through some stuff the last, cough, decade, and I can’t begin to describe how much that episode, and particularly Mary’s “outing” speech really hit me. I’m entering a new phase of my life atm. And maybe I’m not an actor but many of the things you talked about , being patient, doing what you can to affect your situation in life, all are things I kind of forgot about for awhile.
