It’s frustrating to see how many channels get demonetized for reused content when, let’s be honest, a huge portion of KZbin is built on reused or repurposed material. Compilations, reaction videos, reviews, and even educational content often rely on existing material to some degree. While I understand KZbin’s push for originality, it feels like the rules aren’t always applied evenly. Some big channels seem to thrive on reused content, while smaller creators get penalized. It’s a tough balance, but I think KZbin needs to be more transparent and consistent with how they enforce these policies. Anyone else feel the same way?"

ive heard they dont even let you know which video they are talking about...why not? Cant they give people one chance to fix it first? The rules are confusing because they say you can reuse content, but then they say you can't. I make all my stuff original because Im afraid to try anything else. I tried the remix thing once because I kept hearing you could reuse your OWN videos by remixing to make shorts. I experimented once with it. Wasnt sure I did it right and YT red flagged it before I even figured out what I did. So forget that. I dont even try that kind of stuff anymore. "Big brother" has gotten too big and impersonal. Not a cool way to run a company....seems like they let the rich get richer here and penalize the little guy.

Keith you sound like a decent dude, glad you got things sorted. I will say though, two important definitions here..... Reused Content - Content that is legally your own. Reposted again because it did well etc (completely fine to do I believe) Copyright Content - Content you should not be using for commercial purposes because you are effectively stealing it from others (even if unintentionally) It sounds like what you have actually done is pirated copyright material for commercial use (KZbin come down on us like a ton of bricks when that happens 😢) When I make my content I actually have used A LOT of other peoples content...but heres the difference...... I make sure to check the license of the material first....so say if you want to use an image within your video, make sure it is released under 'public domain'...or 'share alike' or something similar. You can also, believe it or not, take a chance and ask the original creator if you can use their content, even if its officially 'copyright license' as long as you get their permission (this works well with people who post images on social media style sites such as FlickR that copyright to the uploader by default...basically non commecial content that is copyrighted) you'll be amazed at the amount of people who are cool with it when you ask. You can even ask a commercial uploader if you can use their content but with those situations its probably better to "offer them a deal" if you want to use their content (maybe offer to whack an advertisement for their chan into one of your vids, in exchange for using some of their media). My brothers channel got demonetized also - but KZbin STILL runs ads (and makes money but he gets $0). KZbin the land of "copycats" - and his content using Lumen5 and him speaking over it was "reused content". He has privatized the videos and is thinking of quiting the YT "video factory" (he says he felt like a factory worker for minimum wage and no real transparency cause YT "says" you made X out of Y, but they never show Creators the "books"!)

Appeal.You will need to remove the content but do not do so until you appeal. They do not want you to remove anything at first. Start the appeal, create your appeal video, tell them you will remove all content in question, and that it was not intentional. We used historical footage on our channel, because it was historical footage for our facts intrigue channel and they did the same to us. We are a very small channel, and had been monetized then hit with the same situation as you. We appealed, made our appeal video and they re-monitized our channel. We wish you the best of luck. Its upsetting, but you can do it.

Sorry to hear that. It's insane how inconsistent KZbin can be with copyright. I've seen people get away with posting content that's like 95% if not fully not theirs and still get monetized somehow! Then plenty of people who try to stick to fair use and be very transformative get demonetized and/or flagged

In all fairness - You can't know for sure whether or not those channels you speak of are monetized or not, as YT will still run ads on that content, the creator reusing said content just doesn't receive any of the proceeds. There ARE big channels out there that choose to use tons of copyright content because they're not worried about making money. That said, yes there ARE still plenty of folks who just fly under the radar for a while, if not forever. Penguinz0 is a perfect example of a guy who can comment over whatever copyrighted material he wants,, he just takes out any DMCA stuff that might be in it and then uses it.... and we KNOW that guy is monetized! Very frustrating.

NEVER put all of your eggs in one basket. This applies to KZbin, eBay, Amazon, Etsy and anywhere else where you operate but do not own. Its not 'your channel' its a Channel that KZbin allows you to have and they can do ANYTHING they want to you whenever they feel like it. I once had a thriving business on someones platform and one day out of the blue they said "you are in violation of our terms of service" and I went from making $20k a week to nothing, just like that. Always keep on your toes and remember that you do not own your KZbin channel, its just a space that KZbin allows you to occupy as long as they deem you useful to them. They can wake up tomorrow and demonetize or deplatform you in an instant..

My channel was just demonetized over a Short as well. It hit 250,000 views or so and one day POOF my entire channel is demonetized until I can reapply in 90 days. Ridiculous that this can happen without a warning or even pointing to the offending content. I was monetized for over 14 YEARS. Right there with ya buddy, now I'm streaming several hours a day to try to hit that 4,000 again.

Why would youtube punish someone for doing exactly that , for something they have implemented themselves? Doesn't make sense! I use that feature, to link the remixed shorts to the longer video, so the long one gets a bit more views. It works great! I don't think I am going to follow his advice and not create shorts anymore, I don't think that's true. If it's your own content, this shouldn't be a problem

I also got demonetized on my other channel. Avoid using content with tik tok or Instagram logos (or any other social media) in your videos on KZbin. you can download the clips without the logo and repurpose them and add commentary . All the Best!!

Imagine being put under arrest for something, and you ask the cop what you are charged with, and all they say, oh you did something wrong but we are not telling you what it is. this is ridiculous. also it's a questionable policy that they punish content creators by removing monetization from >ALL< their videos, because of one bad one, basically taking all the profits of all that work for themselves. in other words, YT profits from demonetizing channels, and it's beneficial to them to not to just send a warning or just remove the offending video, which would be the responsable thing for them to do.

I know the pain bro, I had two videos reach 20 Million views and youtube hit me with reuse content. It's been a uphill battle with reaching those watch hours. I grew by 100k subs but those mainly came from shorts and that algorithm doesn't share my long form to those viewers. Its been nearly two years of getting my channel back on track. Hey Keith, thanks for such an honest, upfront video explaining your predicament. While I struggle a bit with viewing hours also. You have given me chills when thinking about my own content. You have forced me to re-evaluate how I source content for my channel & I thank you for that. While this is less than ideal for me, I'm grateful that i am now aware Before I get monetized and not a year or 2 years down the line.. I'll be staying well clear of the so-called freelancer sites in the future and focus on 100% self creation ! I have had a horrible experience with KZbin in the last two years, since they tried to compete with tiktok, they really killed a lot of quality content and channels like ours. I have a channel going on 8 years, and it was amazing until they changed things and focused on shorts. my views, watch time, and revenue have dropped over 60% in the last 2 years. However, I have increased the quality and content of my videos, they are better than ever, yet everything has dropped. I have no idea why. Sorry that happened to you, I hope you can dig your way out.

I created this channel 3 weeks ago and less than 2 weeks in, I got 1.5 million views, 25k watch hours and almost 4k subs and last week I got shadow banneded, no copyright strikes or anyhting . I am new in this creators space but what I am learning is, keep channels separate use short with clips of your long format to attrack viewers and create another channel for shorts if you want to to "explore it" . Our channel is mostly shorts because it takes forever to make an episode . We do off grid living, survival, and bushcraft. Lots off footage and editing. So we focus on shorts while our episodes are being edited together

The same thing just happened to me. Complete BS! I wasn't doing anything different from anyone else. They claimed "reused content" too. I got hit because of some of my shorts too, but most of my content was totally original or made original by my comments or reactions. KZbins process need to be improved, they should demonetized individual videos or give a warning before they demonetized the whole channel. Really lame! Sorry it happened to you!

You need to appeal it. It happened to a lady and a few weeks after she got monetized again. They couldn't explain why she was demonetized and put her back on. Every day, all day she would send messages to them until she got an answer.

Based on my research and understanding of KZbin’s guidelines, at least 60% of the screen should feature you, with less than 40% showing the content you’re reacting to. However, fair use isn’t just about screen percentage-it also depends on how much you transform the content. Simply having a small portion of yourself on screen while the original video takes up over 60% can make it look like reused content rather than a transformative reaction. Moreover, to stay within fair use, it’s important to add meaningful commentary, pauses, and analysis instead of just playing large portions of the video.

I'm sorry this happened to you. I just got monetized after 3 months of hard work and I'll make sure to be extremely careful, especially with shorts. I do political commentary and critiquing on news segments from outlets like Fox News, CNN, etc so I'm pretty sure that falls under fair use, but still, very disconcerting that you can be de-monetized so easily with little to no explanation or warning. Well, you just gained a subscriber and I hope hit your 4k and you get monetized again quickly!

I like how YT wants you to do shorts but then actively punishes you for it. I do shorts of my long form content and be sure to clip it, add text, add music, and add subtitles on the screen so it at least looks as transformed as possible. Will they come back later and knock me for it. Watching videos like this, I'm 100% sure they will. Oh well! Too bad, Imma keep doing it! 😂 Because if I can get more viewers then maybe they'll push out my videos and I'll get more patreon members etc. It's more about building a community than the adsense (though the adsense is nice)

It's a catch 22. You gain 80/90 thousand subs from a short and none of them want to watch long form. In your situation you'd be better to actually carry on with the shorts, aim for the 3 million views threshold (be honest with yourself if you think your short is fair usage then you can fight for it legally if a claim comes in). People always claim when you go viral using their original videos because the original stuff only has 10k views etc. It's a natural jealousy response, unfiltered, non logical SHUT THAT DOWN, THATS MY VIDEO! That'll never change. You've done it before man, you can do it again. You know exactly what the people like to watch. and also that 100k play button is right round the corner which will come very fast with shorts. That play button will sit nicely on that pillar behind you!
