Love watching you work on these cars Baz, what intrigues me with recent and more modern engine designs is that the basic block architecture, crankshaft, pistons etc do last into very high mileages, but the ancillaries are the weakness, particularly timing chains, tensioners etc, egr crap, blah blah !!! Great content and a learning tutorial for aspiring mechanics as another reader has commented already. Hope the next one treats young kinder buddy 👍

A small point. The oil drains back out of the tensioner over time and is replaced with air. When starting the air has to be compressed and purged out of the tensioner. Hence a long rattle. The new, revised tensioner gasket has a slit in it ( easily seen in your video) that quickly lets the air out ( but then bleeds oil all time the engine runs) and the tensioner to be pushed out far quicker. A fix before this slit gasket was to drill a very small hole in the tensioner to have the same effect . That engine must have been on its second chain as that lower guide was never 164k miles. From what I read 80-110k miles is it?

Hey Baz, greetings from Croatia! First of all, I love your content and I've been following your journey for some time now. Second of all, I'd love your help/opinion on an issue I've been having. Since i did the timing chain replacement, my car has started to consume about a 1L/100km more on average and I can feel a lack of power, specially during the turbo kick where it just doesn't feel like the car is performing as it's supposed to... I've been to to shop that did the timing chain and they are not cooperating and telling me it's fine, but of course it's not since it's a pretty noticeable change in engine behavior. There are no codes nor CEL on low or high rpm, low or high speed but there is one more symptom and that is longer crank start, especially the first in the morning. I've changed all the filters and did a carbon clean on the intake and egr system but with no luck on solving this. If you have any ideas or if you think the shop might have not assembled my car back the right way, I'd appreciate any help at this time. Once again, great content and hope you grow even bigger!
