Well, I work for Walmart myself and there is a rather strict policy about phones out while on your shift. The rule doesn't apply while you are on your break or lunch, but otherwise you can't have it out. You can have it on your person, but if it is seen out, you can get reprimanded for it. I personally don't agree with the manager's decision here, he should have simply instructed him to put it away. The manager would then go to their bosses and inform them of the incident. The only reason I know of this is because I got busted on my first day on the job with my phone out. One of the CSMs (Customer Service Manager) caught me with it out while I was in the back watching my training videos. Thankfully I had a decent excuse... I don't remember what that was to be honest.

Apparently you haven't been to Walmart lately. No one works hard there. I stopped shopping at the one in my town because the employees who weren't at the registers all just stood around talking to each other or on their phones. Any time I asked where something was, the employee would just point in a random direction. They are supposed to stop what they are doing and take the customer to the aisle.

I was a retail assistant for 2 years at a national discount variety chain store, in my last couple years of high school. checkout was by far the worst job there, heck even sitting out back crushing boxes was better than that, stacking shelves was probably my favourite part. You should try being part of the inventory crew in the back. You have about a half hour in the morning to literally count everything in the store, separated by departments, while passing out morning picks. if you don't do it fast enough, you get yelled at. If you ask the people who actually work in the department and are supposed to be doing this themselves, you get yelled at. If you speak to a customer for any reason whatsoever, you get yelled at. This sets the pace for your day and ensures that you don't get crazy ideas like enjoying your work or being in a good mood. Then you get maybe 15 minutes for a break, which you spend at the clock because if you are a millisecond over or under time you get in shit. After that, you get to count literally every item in every box in the back room. You would think you can use the stickers that were put there last night to tell you what is in the box. You would be wrong. This should take you about an hour TOPS, working by yourself because your one and only partner you get for the day is usually more interested in her phone and somehow the management loves her but I'm not bitter about that at all. While you are counting your billionth teeny piece of makeup that just won't scan in the chaos of haba lockup, you are expected to somehow do more picks, collect them all onto a cart, organize them, and SOMEHOW deliver them to their floor department without ever leaving the backroom or stopping your counting or else you get yelled at for socializing. If you somehow manage to get that done within the time limit, you spend the next hour or two pulling every single box off of every single shelf, unscanning them ALL from the system, relabeling them, reorganizing them, putting them back up, rescanning them all back in so that the shelves match the computer, and delivering more picks while simultaneously getting pulled to do random things by 5 different managers like bailing cardboard while trying not to slice your whole body in half with a length of wire that is far too tight for your bare hands and binning new deliveries that came in on the very very late truck while ALSO getting in trouble from each of those 5 managers for doing what the other 4 said. The last bit of your day is spent setting up the bays for the overnight trucks, starting to unload the trucks because the night crew doesnt start for 2 hours, unbinning at least 20 of the shelves taht you JUST FINISHED BINNING so that night crew can ignore putting them out overnight, dusting and sweeping the whole backroom to perfection, and sitting in the managers office so you can get yelled at some more but in a more official manner this time because night crew somehow fucked up all your bins that you did yesterday and it's your fault since if you had done your job right it somehow would have made it impossible for nights to forget to bin half the things they put away. Let's face it. Every aspect of that shitty corporation sucks.

My husband worked at Wal-Mart for 11 months, we had just bought a new house and they fired him. He is 79 years old and a diabetic and worked as a greeter. The front line Customer service Managers said he was one of the best Greeters they worked with and they didn't have to "babysit" him. Everyone loved him and all the employees loved him too. The main Assistant Manager pulled him in after a shift and told him he was fired. The reason he said, was because no done liked him (the Assistant Manager didn't like him), and he had four "meal violations" which meant that he didn't go to his lunch within a certain set time set by the company and the state government. However, he couldn't leave his post unless he was released which sometime didn't happened. Also, because he is diabetic, he was supposed to be able to go to lunch whenever he pleased with someone covering his post. The store also tried to block his unemployment and because he is diabetic they failed and he got it. The other employees weren't so lucky and couldn't get there's. We went back to the store several times to get medication and groceries and the Assistant Manager saw us and we stopped to talk with us and we talked to him and he called the police and had us escorted out of the store and banned from combing back. He had told the CSMs several days before he fired my husband, he was going to fire him because he didn't like him. He's a complete douche.
@lovegirl45796 жыл бұрын
You are legally able to sign away lunch breaks but you have to do it on paper BEFORE you skip it. He violated federal law and put his employer at risk for fines. He should have just walked off for lunch because lets face it, greeters are 100% not needed in any way.
