The issue with support is that if your team constantly makes bad mistakes and your supports constantly have to bail you out its hard to make good plays cause they have exhausted all their resources bailing people out of trouble. For example, a rein decides to charge into a 1v5 and is now about to die. Your kiriko and you know that if your teams tank dies and the enemy tank is still alive chances are your gonna lose. So you tp over to try and save him now you dont have suzu or an escape method. Now the situation is either your tank surived but your dead.

@Kamorzy Жыл бұрын
Pretty solid takes. I don't play a lot of tank, but I do dps and support. The way I see it is that dps has really high carry potential, but they have no tools to help fix a faulty team. Getting elims is the highest impact things you can get in the game, but it won't matter if your tank is feeding or your supports aren't healing - your team will be dead by time you find any opening. Their independence makes it fun, but also frustrating when your team has issues and its just not in the scope of your role to do anything about it. Meanwhile, support has a lot of tools to fill whatever the team needs, both offensively and defensively. Healing for sustain, utility for transforming plays, and damage for their own independent value. However, their kits aren't optimized to shine in any one area on an individual level, healing is too easy for skill to show through, utility requires the team to follow up, and their damage is lower than tanks and dps. So it takes a lot more gamesense and skill to force things to work if your team is lacking - but it can be done.

The DPS counter swapping point I think is a bit of a miss imo. Learning 2-5 heroes should be the main goal for a dps player so you can counter swap when there's a point if little to no value you're getting. Hitscan are just simply really strong so you should be able to play cree and soldier without an issue. Picking up Tracer / Genji, Widow, Sym, Mei and Reaper are also characters you should be able to play at a decent level if the position calls for it. Staying Ashe vs Widow is simply a throw if the Widow can hit shots. Don't play Ashe, or you have to play in a passive position which doesn't even contest her, and you can only minimally fight back. Don't play Widow if Tracer, sombra, ball, mark you and try to always fight you. You lose value by not being a threat.
@dtabor85 Жыл бұрын
This. Tank swapping can change the match immediately too. If you have a Dva tearing you up as hog, not going zarya is basically choosing the hardest road possible and there really is no good reason to handicap yourself. As a dps if ur backline is getting wrecked by a Dva and you stubbornly cling to say junkrat instead of going sym or mei is similar. I would say if you have no swap ability and you want to take his advice youd want to play a generalist only. Probably sigma, soldier, mercy. As they dont really have true counters. But if you just decide to one trick junkrat to climb ur truly screwing yourself out of matches where a simple swap would have been a win.

Yeah I found that section a little contradictory since he still mentioned learning a couple DPS that are good in different situations. @kingks1325 Жыл бұрын
@@SnakeSkinz support is definitely easier than dps you’re probably playing the wrong hero if you’re finding it difficult to rank up. Top 500 on multiple accounts just playing zen, and, bap, and sprinkle in Kiriko occasionally masters+. It’s the easiest role because you can enforce a supp gap a lot easier carrying on support. A 32 37 3 Kiriko with 10k dmg and 18k healing is more valuable and going to win much more games at a higher rate and climb faster due to performance base sr gain than a 1 20 8 1k dmg 29k healing Kiriko. The biggest issue with a lot of support players is the mindset you should still heal your team but if you constantly think I can’t heal my team fast enough or these matches are hard or not going in my favor on support…. It’s because you’re not adding enough value other than healing. On an ana anti more and shoot the enemy team more to apply pressure, zen constantly pumping damage you don’t do enough healing to not be contending with your dps damage to wise, bap apply shield pressure while healing since you need to be shooting in between heals anyway. Doing these things and changing your mindset of support so long as you have the mechanics and game sense you’ll realize support is much easier than dps. Support is literally dps with heal passive the ability to heal your team, once you grasp that you’ll notice high win rates in support with ease notice how the enemy team then focus their weak points. No Kiriko go ana if they never pick up one and you execute well it’s a free game. No ana or a passive one go zen and abuse their tank and the team by result. So much at your disposal on support as opposed to dps where you’re at the mercy of your tank’s rhythm and supports play style. If you’re tank is too passive only a matter of time before you get punished for trying to make up for it on dps due to then focusing you for “feeding”. If you’re on support you can apply that pressure and still live, and force your tank to play differently. Once you’ve played at higher levels you’ll see how much easier support is than dps, I’d say hardest to easiest is definitely dps,tank, and then support last. Dps is the only role where if you do your role flawlessly you still can be sub 60% win rate due to uncontrolled variables. Edit: I am gm1 on all roles for context, just providing my insight as a top 500 support player comfortably always get to gm1 the quickest on support on any account I’ve gone d1 to m3 from 5-1 before. The same in the old ranking system ranked up going 7-12 on support playing with friends few can say the same on dps. By nature of the ranking system dps is the hardest to rank up solely off of population density and competition it’s why your records need to be so good as well as performance, going anything less than 5-3 at d3+ basically nets no rank up. I’ve gone up 2 ranks at once in master at 5-4 on support.
@SnakeSkinz Жыл бұрын
@@kingks1325 Performance based sr doesn't exist outside of the metal ranks. You mentioning this automatically makes me question your claims of being Top 500. No, I don't need to change my mindset because apparently you can't read. I deal damage just as much as I heal as a Bap main. My whole response literally mentions all the things a support has to do outside of healing. You are absolutely wrong in DPS being the hardest role. I don't know where you got the idea of climbing with a lower win rate for the support role, but I've gone 5 - 2 and haven't even moved up before. There are just as many players in the support role as there are as DPS. Despite the changes, Tank is still the least popular role. What's funny to me is you openly admit that supports (particularly your flex supports) are pseudo dps with heals. That literally just means you have more responsibilities. As you said, you have to worry about making impact with your utility. Meanwhile DPS is pew pew, cooldowns and that's it. Nothing more. Stat lines also mean nothing in OW. A Moira can go 32 and 3 cause she can get elims by touching someone with grasp one time without actually killing them and them just not dying by having some escapability. Doesn't mean they're truly doing anything impactful though. You can play a perfect game as a support and still lose, but if you play perfect on DPS it's borderline impossible that you lose the game unless your tank is feeding the entire game; which regardless of whether you are a dps or support that will affect you. I've climbed much faster on dps than I ever have on support just by doing mind numbing work. Especially with the recent Cree buff, being able to take out a Pharmacy by myself and duel Ashe/Widow a bit better makes all the difference. All I have to do is just rely on my raw mechanical aim and I'm golden. Support is so much more involved. I'm not just spewing bias, I'm regurgitating what most of your Top 500 players who stream or make content say. I mean even look at the SVB podcast. You have plenty of people who appear and play different roles and mention how more difficult it is to play support. Because it's a much more dynamic role. The only mindless support hero is Zen since he's literally a DPS being a glass canon. Just keep discord on the tank and then focus on mechanical skill like any other DPS.

Okay I will say as a GM3 mercy main who climbed from plat 3 (i played ow1 but im translating for new people) I feel the struggle of climbing. im not trying to disregard mills but it is VERY VERY hard to climb as supports because of the reliance on your team. people who say “it isnt your teams fault you cant climb” isnt always true in the lower ranks. people split up, overextend (especially tanks), and overall there are a lot of games you cant carry. my only tip is try to find a tank main or a good dps to duo with and you’ll climb, i promise (keep in mind i didnt say all games, we all make mistakes. so its not ALWAYS your teams fault, try to recognize times you made mistakes too!!)

I have an ultra aggro play style. Dive in get a pick or a good get in get out Disruptor with pretty much every role. I made it to diamond playing dps lucio ,for the most part. I’d say it definitely was easy but support is an adaptable role. I obviously don’t have to engage a lot if I don’t need to u can still bring value to my team by healing. But heal botting doesn’t win games getting picks does and playing objective. If you aren’t dealing dmg or getting picks support is the hardest role but if u are taking matter into your own hands support is a medium. For tank it depends on which type of tank you play if you play dive tanks like Doom and Dva it’s without a doubt the easiest role. Dive tanks are literally just better DPS characters so if you’re diving those supports games will win themselves. ZBRA is top 10 for a reason characters like rein and ram can’t snowball games if their supports are always dying. So I’d say dive tank easy. DPS is the hardest role. Not even a debate. Even if you play the easiest DPS characters like mei, torb, sym you can still struggle to win. The damage class has pretty much devolved to one shot everything or supports with just reverse all your progress. Hit scan meta is boring bcz getting one shot isn’t fun to fight against but at the same time if you nerf hitscans the game will just revolve around tanks and support even more. It’ll just feel like goats all over again bcz you have to play the tanky utility DPS characters

Ngl, after being a brain dead COD/destiny player at just being efficient at killing, overwatch is a totally different beast for me. Killing solo isn't as easy and teamwork is literally everything. That's something that I'm not use to because everyone kinda just takes care of their own in COD. But here, it's a lot harder and more braincells are required. And I genuinely give a lot of appreciate for players who do great and do a lot of great decision making on the fly.

I'm a support main, started the game two months ago. Went from Bronze 5 to Gold 5 - start of this season. I've only played one full month. Here's my secret from ranking so fast (with no prior experience - I don't even play FPS games) 1. I'm a fast learner, so I might just be a cheat code - just being honest. 2. I play all support hereos with the exception of Life weaver because I hate him, his playstyle is quite boring, he's too different, and his skill ceiling is too high. 3. Because I play all support heroes, I pick the perfect hero to play well with my team and counter the enemy team at the same time. 4. I actually listen to overwatch tip videos, I've watched maybe... 10 in total, of all kinds of Overwatch tip advice videos. And from that I understand counter picks, specific character tips and tricks, different types of line ups (puck, brawl, and dive). This is the big one: 5. I teach my teammates how to play the game and/or their character, nid-game. Whilst not being toxic about it. I will literally quickly type in chat to tell people to use the walls as cover and not take so much damage, or if they tap a moira primary fire thing they'll get their heal sprays faster. This is the main thing that has made me rank up so fast. I do not complain, I just give advice on how we can win, and give a brief explanation on why it works... all during the game.

Real shit dude. The tank that turns their back first loses, cause their dps and supports are shooting into ur team while you are giving up lots of space to go peel with ur useless damage output. Weird thing about ur first point. Bliz pushes us to flex. Play the flex, get the points, get faster ques. BUT the game punishes you for it. In OWL players have their fixed role and swapping roles is so rare its always talked about. I played flex so much I DONT KNOW ANYMORE WHO I AM. I got plat finally on all 4 ques. But i want to get higher, i want to focus, but i dont even know what role i have more chances on. I get bored of one and swap. And I play too many heroes. Onetricks have an upper hand cause they know the game from the perspective of their pick. I can name phara and ana as my mains, but phara is hard countered a lot and ana... i learned that i enjoy her, but it doesnt mean she fits me well. Im bad with her, my scoping is bad, etc.
@MercurialDecree Жыл бұрын
I dont fully agree with the statement about dps being the least impactful. My reasoning is that they are the gears that enable the game to move for either side. A tank can hold that line while supports assist but a tank even while being double pocketed will not be able to push a team back alone. Only the dps might can do that effectively.
@alexm5318 Жыл бұрын

I think tank is the highest carry potential. Then support. Dps has the least. One great support can shut down several good dps skills alone. Suzu in general can ruin almost every ult. Then they turn around and kitsune and its gg go next.
@swordofkhaine8464 Жыл бұрын
Wrong take. DPS are the difference makers. At a certain level, all tanks become the same level except for some crazy ball and doom players. But the ceiling and potential of dps like Widow, Sojourn is ,much higher.

@kingks1325 Жыл бұрын
@@swordofkhaine8464 you proved his point dps only makes a difference if the tanks are equal and the support cancel out . An equally skilled dps player and support player the support player will have more value simply off their kit alone.
@swordofkhaine8464 Жыл бұрын
@@kingks1325 they will be equal almost all the time, because that's how match making works. The devs made it a point to force tanks to be always as close to each other as possible, there is no diff like in season 1. In almost all matches, tanks have similar dmg dealt, elims, and mitigations (if using shield). It's the DPS that are match made to make a difference.
@kingks1325 Жыл бұрын
@@swordofkhaine8464 correct so since the tank matchup is equal majority of the time. By nature of their kits support will have the higher impact between dps and support in their games. One of the best dps in the game isn’t even in the dps category which is zen. If you don’t already play him pick him up and see how often selecting him can turn around perceivably losable games. Barring widow dps that have the next highest impact are being pocketed by mercy another support. Effectively showing op has a good grasp of the game and probably plays at a high elo. A lot of low elo players believe dps has an high impact due to playing support poorly. The only time dps have the highest impact is literally in a vacuum/ high elo where your tank and support are both getting equal value which even in high elo are very rare games.
