I’ve noticed that in 90% of the matches I lose, it’s always the enemy team that says gg first, right as my whole team instantly leaves the match. But when I win, the entire enemy team also instantly leaves, and it’s my team saying gg. In conclusion, it’s hypocritical to be a good sport only when you win, if when you lose, you just leave the match without saying anything.

Hot take: It is simply part of the culture in Overwatch to be toxic. The vast vast majority of people are tilting and blaming their teammates for everything and have no ability to see their own mistakes. 90% of chat messages are to flame a teammate, an opponent, or the general game itself. Voice chat is entirely worthless and only leads to vulgar language and more flaming. Hot Take: Tier list made by content creators have a conflicting effect on the player base that watch them. Most creators of tier list are very high elo, while the majority of the player base and likely people who watch tier list are gold. And what may be S/F tier at high elo may be completely different at the average elo. And I do not think this is solely tier list just an easy focus point. Just their mumbled half distracted opinion can have an effect. A kind of example to this. I've seen this effect on a high rank friend of mine before. Got matched against them in a qp game. They had seen a tier list that placed Mauga in D tier, and after the game I say the Mauga pick was kinda evil. They then said "Mauga is garbage right now." The content creator that made that tier list, made an updated tier list saying that the previous one was incorrect. And placed Mauga in A tier after. I feel people take what content creators say as gospel sometimes and don't think for themselves and see if they come to the correct conclusion. I want to make clear I don't think everyone takes what they say as gospel, just that some do. And I hope they would have a more trust, but verify attitude.
@sneezebazooka60686 сағат бұрын
Honestly the big takeaway is that tier lists doesn’t really matter below high tier because a lot of people in lower ranks have a limited pool of heroes they can play, and they just pick from there unless they’re forced to counterpick. If youre a Winston one trick in plat, you’re unlikely to play doom or junkerqueen if you suck at them even if they get giga buffed. The only time it trickles down is when the less complex characters become meta (eg orisa,hog,moira). Also the lower the rank, the larger the range of skill between players (is the gold 3 player someone who is smurfing/doesn’t play a lot, someone who plays a lot and if so, are they a 1 trick held back by teammates or someone that skirts by from counterpicking). That skill diff does more than the meta does. In higher tier, everyone has to basically play the game constantly so there is less of a skill gap from smurfing/inactivity. Also players in those elos are more likely to have a wider hero pool as most people can no longer get away with one tricking unless they invest an exorbitant amount of time

But since I got Midnight Sun and seeing the flashy kill animation even when I don't do the final kill shot, I felt more confident as well as seeing the gun evolve as I continue playing the match. Since then it's helping my confidence to improve my shots to not just heal my team, but also take aim at enemies (which still needs work) even improve my sleep dart shots little by little. Overall my aim on ana has been improving and it's thanks to the mythic weapon, I believe as more mythic weapons come out, the kill and evolve animations can help improve people's gameplay through confidence in team contribution.

Saying "gg" after the game ends is NOT good sportsmanship for most people because they mostly say it only when they win. This is a fact and it makes saying "gg" hypocritical. People like to think "I'm a good sport" but in fact, they do good things only when they feel good (aka win). Few say gg after a lost game. The amount of times I've seen a team roll us only for almost all of the enemies to say gg, then lose to us in the next game and be absolutely silent is ridiculous. What is even more ridiculous to me is how so few recognize that this happens all the time, but I guess you have to participate in that hypocritical behavior to remain blind to it.

Hot Take: If widow keeps her long range one-shot lethality, she should have a close range weakness. I have seen numerous times widows that can headshot at close range. I've seen games where the widow will just play close range with their team as if they're an ashe/cass and roll the other team. In my opinion she should be strong at long range and weak at close range. This way there's an actual reason to use the SMG, and that if you're flanking her she actually has to rely on the team a bit more to protect her instead of being able to one-shot you.

Hot take : I don't think Sombra sucks after her season 13 rework. Players just have to adapt to her new playstyle, and because metal ranks players are used to the old playstyle they think she sucks. She was just really easy to use before because she had perma stealth which allowed you to go all around the map and get that Widowmaker who dominates the entire lobby without the risk of being spotted. Now you have to think more about your translocator usage, because good players will hear/see that translocator and know that Sombra is close to them. Before you had no way to tell if a good Sombra was there or not.

Legit, I think Sombra would be perfect if they tied her hack to her virus projectile so she can actually use her hack on an enemy mid team fight without being instantly interrupted, and gave her back her old invis ability with a 5 second duration instead of having it tied to translocator. Maybe also remove her damage buff passive as well, since her hack wouldn't be interruptible without hard cc. This way, she retains her unique "assassin" play style and deals respectable burst damage while still being not completely useless outside of stealth ambushing the enemy supports.

Having to wait 5 seconds to engage isn’t fun and if you get caught out you are dead. The only people that think Sombra is good are metal ranks.

Hot take/suggestion: The tutorial at the moment feels a little lacking, at least to me who has learned much more than the tutorial covers. I feel like blizzard should divide the tutorial into multiple parts to make it a bit easier for new players to understand how to play the game. It could look like such: 1. Beginner tutorial (the absolute basics of the game, general movement, how to use abilities etc.), 2. Positioning tutorial (so that new players can learn quickly that using natural cover and using off-angles is important), 3. Your role in a teamfight tutorial (i see way too often in low rank/unranked debates that supp pretty much should only heal or that tanks are only made to protect their team), 4. Advanced tutorial (more advanced topics such as space and pressure are brought up, you are taught to keep track of friendly and enemy abilities as well as practising good ability management, also a slightly deeper look into what different characters do and how to deal with different character archetypes (for an example: "some heroes can fly or climb walls, to deal with a powerful high damage tank you must exploit their lack of range/mobility") ) But of course they could be different. I feel like more people would be inclined to learn more about the game and maybe try their hand at comp if the game itself gave a little nudge. As of now the only way to learn advanced stuff apart form figuring it out yourself is by actively searching for it and not all people want to do that. Maybe to make sure that those who are not used to overwatch and need a few games to develop the basic skills to play it cannot play the more advanced tutorials immediately by putting a 5/10/15 games played requirement respectively.

that "toxic gg" really shows the shift in time. In the past when you were playing your sport you have maybe 5 other players in town. Everyone will have his own skill level. A match happening is already a good match and thats where it comes from. Naturally with the internet and ow being popular you dont need that anymore. But try playing an older title online, you will know every single player and you will know who wins or loses often befor the match even starts. Still its another human playing with you. Double points if the first person to say gg is the enemy mercy that pocketed the cheating widow/ashe. -Saying gg before the game is even over -Saying gg when it was clearly a 1 sided game, not a close 50/50. I don't know if it's different somewhere else, but in the metal ranks of the EU servers, the more one-sided a stomp a match is, the more likely it seems to be that the whole winning team says "gg". When in the next match you're against some of the same people, win the match and say "gg" to them, they stay silent. It's kind of hard to see this behavior as especially sportsmanship like. I do see some genuine ggs, but by the numbers, the massively more common usage seems to be a non-bannable way to rub it in that this game in particular was a complete slaughter. If my team gets absolutely stomped with no chance of winning and they say "gg" its toxic
@GummyDinosaursify9 сағат бұрын
I think when it's an absolute steamroll, where the enemy team just simply does not get to play, saying "gg" is just toxic for the sake of being toxic (and let's be honest, most of the time it's "ez gg" instead after the enemy has been teabagging and shit talking all game). You can't really compare real life sports to Overwatch because the RL sports, the players still get to play a game. Shaking hands is also meant to defuse any lingering animosity where as typing "gg" does NOT have that effect.

Hot Take: Overwatch players are just as much to blame for the game not being what it should be, no skins for majority of the characters? That's because of whales and simps so no Venture or Ram skins, Widow taking over your matches? Can't change her because "Identity" and because her players would get salty, You have an opinion about the game and balancing? Well that's to bad you're a lower rank then me so your opinion doesn't matter. Overwatch players and streamers sabotage the game because they are selfish when it comes to these things and don't think about everyone as a whole.
@KalleDemos6667 сағат бұрын
Disagree, changes to a character's identity for the sake of not being annoying to "You" should never ever exist, if the game EVER makes the change to all maps being more like Hanaoka/Anubis then maybe they can change Widow's identity but changing ANY character for the sake of "fun" is beyond stupid, what is fun to you might not seem fun for others.
@burtonthegrape92176 сағат бұрын
@@KalleDemos666 I don't think Identity is the be all end all reasons to not change a character, they've changed characters and they were fine, being a sniper isn't just about one shotting from the other side of the map, people keep acting as if they are asking for widow to be gutted but at the same time Widow gets abused and she's one of the problem characters that can be changed to make her more fair and less abused. point is some players will say she's fine but there's a large amount that say like Sombra she takes the fun out of the game when its a character that kills that you cannot interact with.

A ‘gg’ in my opinion should be reserved for when there’s an actual back and forth the majority of the game and it looked like it could go either way. People will blindly NPC post it when literally anything happens, like a professional NBA team just defeated a bunch of toddlers - bot post ‘gg’. People leaving your game causing an insane amount of backfill, somebody clearly afking essentially, getting stomped, someone counterswapping after 1 death, anyone playing widow, etc. There are times when clearly it wasn’t a good game, I wish people just didn’t say anything at all in those cases, just leave.
@fantalimon14543 сағат бұрын
And I respectfully disagree. "gg" is a handshake -- nothing more, and nothing less. Chess players shake hands at the end of their game, regardless of how the game played out. Barring tantrums, sports players shake hands when the game is over, regardless of how the game played out. It's the same principle. It doesn't literally mean the game was a good one. It's just a demonstration of good sportsmanship to shake hands, even if in this case it's typing "gg" in chat rather than physically shaking hands.
@elidwyer590Сағат бұрын
@@fantalimon1454 It won't let me edit it, but I do see what you're saying about calling it the equivalent to a handshake, but I've never seen it that way because it literally stands for 'good game', so that's when I use it, if it genuinely was. It has zero meaning if you apply to any situation because not every game is good/fun to play.

People don't understand how little money one time purchase games make compared to free to play games. Balders Gate 3 barely broke 1 billion in revenue and it took 6 years and hundreds of millions of dollars to develop, meanwhile last year genshin impact only made 950 million in 2023 and that was considered a really bad year for the game. Corpa learned that free to play with micro transactions is the way to go and I don't think there's any turning back.

Hazard has been real fun to play, been able to use his kit and get it to click. And for me I got a very similar feeling when I played Hazard, to when I played Brig (and I began looking to One Trick her when I go Support cause I have a lot of fun playing her). So it's giving me more enjoyment to pick up Hazard and learning both him and Brig. See if I can get better and maybe translate that to Comp games. And I kinda sorta consider myself somewhat new. Only began playing at the tail end of Season 11. Wish I got in earlier cause the theme was neat.

Hot (?) Take: Overwatch has a toxicity problem, but people only talk about one side of the coin. Shouldn’t we also tell people to grow thicker skin sometimes in addition to telling people not to be toxic? Like, I understand saying people shouldn’t harass, drop slurs, or generally be unbearable assholes. However, doesn’t it go a bit too far when people are folding over “gg ez” or general trash talk? All the happiest people I know that play OW are the ones that love the banter and trash talk, and generally don’t care what people say to them, and all the most miserable ones I know are the “positive vibes only” types that report abusive chat at every opportunity.

Funnily enough, I sorta agree. Real banter and trash talk is recognizably toxic, and that alone is meaningful, albeit in a divisive way. It leads to more meaningful post game interaction, too, even if half of that is toxic. My gripe about "gg" lies in it's convoluted meaning, or lack thereof. Nowhere do i advocate for reporting or censorship. Those with thin skin should leave game chat, mute, or block aggressors, and those who have nothing to say should say nothing.

Widow becomes sever admin for the whole match. Or rolling the enemy team then saying gg is toxic.
@umbralflow688310 сағат бұрын
The gg is true in some cases as its use as both good and bad manners. Saying gg before the match end is one of them, one sided fights is another time I see it use in as a bm, saying ez for any reason is also bm as there is never a case where telling the other team that is for " good sportmenship". Another time I see it is the word "diff". There are time I see people say it and the only reason they diff the hero was because they had a better support not they themselves. I healed a diva that beat the enemy diva only for my diva to say diva diff. I sitting here like Im the reason you won that fight. There are just time where your diffing is the result of your team putting you in the advantage. Most of the people that defend it do it themselves. They know the toxic that is in chat.
@livesinalazywonderland40217 сағат бұрын
players saying "player diff" like in your dva example is toxic, saying ez is also dumb, but saying gg after a one sided match? thats not toxicity at all. i understand most players are young kids, but you cant account for random people having crisis over "gg" just because a steam roll happened. steam rolling is inevitable in any sports, and people shouldnt have to defend themselves just because they enjoyed the game by saying gg or gg by habit, because its still good sportsmanship to say gg even if you rolled or got rolled.

I think the first take is just making the point that "it's just cosmetic" is overly reductive. Cosmetics are part of the game and why people play. So when you remove them from a 'free to play' game, you're not getting a full game- you're just paying in a different way. And, as it happens, you're paying a lot more to get anywhere near the same amount. It's worth at least keeping in mind...

Someone who plays and enjoys a hero(s) may be completely confused when their hero(s) are rebalanced/reworked as they are not watching videos or reading patch notes. This man really said the good protagonist is overplayed, as if not every character is an edgy asshole who is selfish, or basically sold their soul for power and influence? The good guy is not overplayed at all for too many people are just selfish, or have an inclination toward the darker side of psychology, and so they click more with those characters but for those of us who are slightly more positive we actually just wants heroes who are genuinely just protagonist instead of feeling forced to play selfish, assholish, evil or sometimes just straight up demonic characters. Sometimes we just want to hear a genuinely positive voice line for me genuinely good guy not some snarky, provocative voice line every time we kill a guy or genuinely want to say nice things etc. Especially in a game, where you slightly identify with the character, you choose and people identify them with you as a natural side effect.
@SocialExperiment2329 сағат бұрын
I agree. The good guy is definitely not overdone. There’s a sea of characters that are morally ambiguous and just straight up completely selfish. People love the ahole “because he feels real to them” and the “good guy” forces them to contemplate their own actions and morality. They don’t like constantly being reminded of hose self absorbed they are so they prefer the bad guy that convinced them that they get to make up their own moral code which doesn’t require them to self improve in any way. It’s sad that people literally hate being good now then they wonder why the world is how it is.

Hot take: Venture has no skins because they are the first non-binary hero and Overwatch skin creators don't know how to create skins for a character who doesn't identify with typically masculine or feminine characteristics. It's something they have never had to think about, and they know whatever they do they will lean either to masculine or feminine and people will be angry but if they never give them skins peopls can't claim they are not inclusive. It's a double-edged sword, and unfortunately, people who like the hero are left without cool cosmetics.

I just though it was on popularty, Venture isnt that popular and cute and/or sexy is what sells skins. Its why Kiriko and now Juno gets them so much. Saying gg after absolutely rolling the other team is close to toxic, moreso just unfitting and makes no sense. It was good for YOU, but not your opponent haha. I only say gg after evenly matched games. Pre-emptive ggs are toxic though. The game's not over yet, there's still a chance for a comeback. Tracer isn't really the protagonist. She's the mascot, but not the protagonist. And if there is a male protagonist, it's probably Soldier 76 considering he was there at Overwatch's founding and was its leader. Overwatch has such a huge cast and is team-based that it doesn't need a protagonist, you'll find someone who appeals to you.
