You can dodge blue shells pretty consistently in mkds by releasing a mini-turbo and hopping as the blue shell is about to hit you.

Pro tip: you can dodge blue shells with a mini turbo + hop. This is just difficult to pull off, because the timing would be when the blue shell drops halfway. With some time and a bit of practice, it should be easier but not guaranteed to pull off. I’ve only tested this with yoshi, dry bones, and toad, the acceleration characters. Edit: As far as I know, it’s only possible on Mario Kart DS.

characters don’t matter unless it’s offroad and it’s very slight at that. It’s purely the mini turbo + hop that you can dodge them.

@@soulofthemedleyI think the vehicle counts tho because i tested it with karts that cant drift offroad (low accel or mid accel) and the karts that can (high accel). They seem to give off a longer miniturbo from what ive seen so thats where my studies came from.

​@@Aboverage speaking as a member of the tt speedruning community i can say for sure mt length is a hidden stat of its own, not really tied to acceleration, also mt boost is similar to a shroom boost but not the same, since you can't go full speed offroad with it unless you make use of prolonged rocket boost, which is pretty hard to maintain in itself

Bro I remember playing MKDS with the other kids at summer camp. Everytime someone got a blue shell everyone would start freaking out. There would be a battle up front with everyone slamming on their brakes to avoid the shell. Then there would be that one kid that always would go back to 6th-7th place JUST to grab a blue shell. He would then smuggle it up to first and basically hold the position hostage that whole race. Shit was so damn funny.
