Good People,
Another Day At The Shop! Double and Triple Checking Seems To Be The Theme for This Week. I've been having to check behind myself a lot. My diagnostic skills have been lacking lately. Is it the heat? It's so hot in the shop, sometimes I can't even think straight. Follow me around in this vlog as I diagnose the various cars I have in the shop.
Tools I use: www.amazon.com/shop/alexthecardoctor

Glad you put your foot down about customer supplied parts. Basically in my shop the way it goes (And we have a sign that says it very specifically). If you bring your own parts, the labor goes up 50% minimum, and there is no warranty at all. The end of the sign says "You don't bring your own eggs to restaurant do you?"

I once offered to supply my own jalapeno and habanero peppers to a sandwhich shop I'm friendly with, for a cheesesteak, but they were worried about the capsaicin contaminating the grill and affecting other foods ( not to mention the effect frying peppers has on the air and people in the vicinity ) 😂 That's another reason I prefer to cook my own food more often than not, and work on my own vehicles and equipment when time and ability allows.

I do love rockauto, I understand why somebody would want to use their parts, good stuff at good prices. Issue is now the shop has to deal with any fallout. Just trust your mechanic, if you can get the same brand from your local parts store then sweet.

People can get crazy when they are dealing with car issues. Three months ago i sold a used car to a customer at my dealership, and i tried my hardest to convince her to include an extended service contract because she was already complaining about the payments and the down payment. People living paycheck to paycheck are the folks who need coverage the most becuase they can't fix it when the time comes. I asked her multiple times if she would be able to financially handle a major mechanical issue if it occurs, but she blew me off. Well, last week she called me 3 days in a row screaming and cursing at me becuase it needs a major repair that WOULD have been covered.

Just started the video but I totally understand the parts thing, a lot of shops around here don't allow it either because the customer buys the parts thinking this is the ultimate solution, then when something additional goes wrong, it MUST be the mechanic's fault. However usually with my Toyota the local shop has no problem with it if the part I give them is an OEM part I got from the dealer. They just don't like the aftermarket stuff.

I do 90% of the work on my car now but back when I could barely afford the labor, you best believe I wasnt trying to pay shop mark-up on parts. $80 for a serpentine belt that I can get for $30 from the dealer? No way. $70 for a cabin air filter? Thanks but you can keep it.

Great work Alex. I finally after 10 days received my new coolant outlet for my 2014 Chevy Sonic 1.4l turbo so I will be doing that job on Friday. The first one they sent me when I got it I’m like this don’t look like the original box and knew it was going to have something wrong with it sure enough a bolt and sleeve were missing when I took it out of the box. 🤦‍♂️

Awwwww nahhhh! You are the stand up one! The one who calls out the shop by name. The one rejecting parts. Then as shown in this and the last video you make sure you find the issue and fix it right. Then you co-sign the The mobile guy who doesn’t finish jobs, breaks stuff and goes to the junkyard, completely explains 50-60% of things wrong and leaves the video up and never corrects (Ex: “Checking trans fluid is pretty much the same on every vehicle. You check it at operating temperature while running.” He’s working on Honda.), uses remanned batteries as new, etc. Everyone starts somewhere, but he acts as if because he has a decent amount of views he knows what he’s doing when he’s learning still. I’m sad 😔.

I like your videos and how you admit your mistakes I learn a lot from these videos I’ve made this mistake many times and now always if I can get to it just check power at the source like the other day there was a 05 mustang with the blower motor stopped , it had codes for the after market head unit which also controlled the ac but the blower motor was easy to access so I just checked power direct and it had power So I replaced blowed motor and fixed the problems
@AlexTheCarDoctor

@@RB-pr1xs that’s what I normally do check power at the source, in this particular case the engineers got me, I was not able to access the power source from the compressor without removing a major component

I had the same thing happen with my 370Z and it was just low on refrigerant. Some systems won't allow the compressor to come on to prevent damage to the internals from a lack of pag oil.

Don't sweat the misstep when it comes to electrical troubleshooting. You continued to troubleshoot until you found the correct problem without causing any system damage. GM is not the only manufacturer that uses same color coded wires for different components, Toyota does it as well. I chased a problem on that had a solid with a stripped wire! being used for to separate components not related. Took 3 days to locate the correct wire. The wiring diagram was also incorrect in the tech manual

If you knew what’s wrong with your car, then you don’t need a diagnostic. However if you DON’T know what’s wrong with your car, you Should definitely pay me for my expertise. He didn’t google anything! I told him what I thought it was right off the bat. Also, they can use Google, the internet and some of my KZbin tutorials to fix it themselves if they want. But you ain’t gonna bring your car to me telling me what you “think” it is based off the internet, I take your word for it and fix what you ask and it doesn’t work out, now you mad at me. NO Sir!
