Did that Audi get an oil change at the place that put on the turbo? I’ve been fixing so many issues lately where European comes from another shop with white smoke out the pipe. It’s always after an oil change without Euro oil. These new ones are picky. Two the customer ls came straight in an oil changed fixed it. Others all had oil bypass issues. These cars are getting picky with their additives.
@JimSix-jo6hf3 ай бұрын
I do not know what Euro oil is but there is no better oil that Pennzoil platinum it looks like the used turbo just had bad seals
@alexandergunaka6663 ай бұрын
@@JimSix-jo6hf It has a different base spec than api sn/gf6 which is an example of how they distinguish the spec for the majority of oil; an example of a Euro oil’s base spec would be acea a5/b5. Those oils contain a lot of different additives that are needed for the more extensive emissions systems used because of Europe’s more stringent emissions regulations.Then another difference is a majority of European vehicles have a manufacturer spec too, such as MB 229.3 for some Mercedes. They’re all different but not having the right additives can lead to blow by, failing seals, or not accepting heat correctly, etc . I have seen plenty smoke from not using euro oils and even a couple turbos go bad. For the turbo the oil can’t travel freely due to viscosity being lost causing several issues but one being it doesn’t properly cool the turbo because it can not flow through it’s oil passages to it’s drain properly which can cause the seals to leak.
@JimSix-jo6hf3 ай бұрын
@@alexandergunaka666 thank you, I learned something new today
@cali24682 ай бұрын
@@alexandergunaka666 Oil shouldn’t make an otherwise healthy motor smoke like that. Unless the rings were worn. I ran Castrol GTX High Mileage in my old ‘13 GLI w/ 130k and no issues. However, I do recommend the Euro blend. That’s what I run now on my ‘14 GLI Edition 30.
@alexandergunaka6662 ай бұрын
@@cali2468 The wrong oil definitely can. If it’s missing certain emissions additives it’ll happen. I’m assuming the oil additives in regular castrol caught up to the ‘13 needs.

I looked at it again and am not seeing it, but is it really proper to nitpick a free job that Alex did not have to do anyhow? I am a shop owner in Ohio, my insurance will cover your car inside of the building but a parking lot is the same as being parked on the street the shop owner is not on the hook for it, same as if you get hit by a shopping cart at the store, the car owner is happy with it that is all that matters

those things can be a pain, ok if you use them but every mechanic is different, problem is dirt and abrasive things can get between the cover and the paint, if I am doing a lot of underhood repairs I use my masking paper and just mask off the fenders, it does not move around and will protect from fluid spills
