I got laid-off before Christmas: Be careful what you wish for

I wanted time off from work and I ended up getting laid-off before Christmas instead! Here's how I'm using the time to grow and be successful on KZbin!

I was made redundant 10 years ago and felt the anxiety of loss off income and future. I took 2 months off and renovated the home. I was burnt out and the universe made me take time off. A chance encounter led to contract work 9-3 5 days a week.worked solidly ever since. When one door closes another opens.

I have a feeling I'll be laid off or pressured to leave my job early next year due to chronic health issues. I just bought a campervan after dreaming about it for 8+ years. If that happens, I'm taking a month to rest, get out into nature, and post to my KZbin channel. That's my gift to myself - self-care and time to do what I really want to do before starting to look for 100% remote work to keep paying the bills. I love that you're talking about the shift in your thinking and how you're going to focus on doing something you love in this time you've been gifted!

I watched a video with Dr Wayne Dyer who was doing a seminar, when one person said they had been laid off from their job. Wayne said "wonderful" The person asked how do you mean wonderful? Now you have the opportunity to do something you've always wanted to do. NOW is the time! If we look upon what happens with anger and despair, we will attract more stuff to be angry with and despair about! So yes, attracting what you want may come in a way you never expected. But you are a positive person Shirley. Now you have the time you wished for to do the thing you love. Do what you Love. Love what you do.

Too simplistic. Too many channels are devoted to do what you love and love what you do, but what if what you love does not pay the bills? Wishing does not put a roof over your head. Too many have tried and come unstuck and those who have been 'successful' often already have the financial means to pursue their dreams.

Lots of nice things in this video. If not now, when? That is a very good motto. Also, you have to save yourself. Generally, I agree with your sentiment which is that you have to turn every situation into a positive, if you can. That said, the idea that the universe has any sentience or does anything is hard to accept. In my opinion, the universe just is.

Sending hugs and wishes for a successful 2025 on yoube. We often create by default don't we? My creating got me housebound in pain for the past two years after getting totally fed up with those around me needing to visit, be looked after, have me visit, join in social events (I am such an introvert abd it all drains me). So, my big challenge? Well, I can't entertain, feed, look after, go to events or celebrations and even visits are really hard because of the pain. I am working through letting that 'default mode' get negated. I think it is my cowardly self who just finds it easier to run away rather than keep explaining all the time.

I find that this "dark" time of year can be perfect for internal "soul" work. Less multi-tasking and distraction can give more time for concentrated focus, and I find that the tone of rest of the year (the doing time) is often set by my thoughts and intentional work now. As I grow older (I'm your age and alone as well), I find that much of this work is about figuring out what ways of thinking and being no longer serve me, and working out the steps that I need to take to make changes that are more sustainable and meaningful for me now. I wish you the best for this window of time that the universe has given you!

At 58 year of age I also realized that I need to create a plan for my future. I am a public school teacher in the U.S. I have one more year after this before I can retire with a small pension. I have always wanted to live in and teach in another country and am trying to budget my money so I can make this transition in 2026. I realize I need to be pro active re; my health and my budget. I am lucky to have a job with good insurance and I do enjoy my students. I need to make changes and I have finally realized that I can. I enjoy your videos very much!

@ I didn’t like my job and because it was salary I felt like I was barely making enough money. I kept praying for more money and more opportunities and I got laid off on 12/6. I knew it was my own manifestation but not being clear with the universe, lol. Believe it or not I’m less stressed and able to plan for a better future.

My layoff happened just as my in-law’s health began to decline, so I had the time to help my husband with his parents. Then I started a KZbin channel as a creative outlet. I know you will make the most of this time and your channel will grow.

When I started working again I set up a bonus saving account. Got it to 3 months wage then I automatically put in the minimum $100/month to keep the bonus interest. This became my emergency only fund. I no longer stress about unexpected bills ie washing machine failing, emergency car repair bill, or last March a replacement second hand car. It now sits at just under 5 months wage. Being 57 in January , if I get made redundant, I know I have a back up.

I am leaning towards cutting back my work and doing more YT. Right now it's just a hobby. At 61 if you get 'laid off' it's very difficult to find another good paying job. Corporations no longer value experience and loyalty. They want cheap labor that does whatever they are told. Burnout and turnover is just part of the expense of doing business. Sad really, but it's reality.
