Your pay does NOT define your worth. Your pay is how the company rewards the value your work provides to them.

Getting laid off is difficult enough, but this chap's concern is the fact that he built his life on a temporary work visa that makes him totally dependent on the very employer who let him go 9 days before his visa expires. I respect the poetry of words, Brian, but I have seen this happen, as well as companies working immigrants on work visas twice as hard as the citizens sitting next to them (in America). That work visa is everything, and you need an employer to sponsor it. In fact, it is very difficult to leave an employer, even if they are treating you poorly (because they sponsored your legal existence in the country). Some employers use it as a control factor, and obviously, this chap's former employer didn’t give a shit about the impact of releasing him 9 days before it needed to be renewed. I wish the chap best of luck. Finding another path or employer isn't the issue, it is finding a sponsor....in 9 days.

I walked through the Oudekennissteeg a few days ago and they had the exact same LED lighting at their windows there.

The coming problem with the entire engineering field is that we are entering the real estate down wave. According to the new book, The Bubble That Broke The Bank the coming real estate crash in 2026 put a premium on moving fast to secure any type of job in 2025. Run, Dick and Jane!

I got laid off at june, ever since then. I implemented a detailed budgeting strategy, tracking every expense and setting clear spending limits across all categories. In just six months, I saved over $60,000, giving me a strong sense of financial security and the ability to invest in my future. This approach has transformed the way I manage money, and I now feel more confident than ever about achieving my long-term goals.

Being laid off is not easy. I've been there, done that. We have to pick up the pieces and move on. It might be hard, but we must trust ourselves that we can weather life's storms.

Side note: managers are trained to be cruel . At a certain moment they are obliged to lay off someone. He said that there was a high manager present. I guess this was an evaluation of that HR person, to see how she performed the lay off process. That sounds horrible doesn’t?
