The Cure doesnt have a bad album, you can just listen to them back to back and replay them and they never get old. Pornography, Disintegration, Wish, Seventeen Seconds just to name some of my favorites. The sounds are unique. The thing is it depends on what kind of mood you are in as to which album you prefer at the time, but you cant go wrog with any of them. Robert Smith is a genius.

One of my MOST FAVORITE songs of theirs! Ive heard this song thousand times and I still get goosebumps and euphoric chills all over my body. SUCH a good album. To me the concept of this song makes feel like its a spiritual psychadelic experience.. This album, Pornography. Seventeen seconds and Faith are crazy good

This song has gotten me through tough times (depression) as well as the entire album ‘pornography. Robert Smith has even said that he’d never be able to create something as emotional as pornography because of how bad his mental state was during the writing process ( he had contemplated suicide, , which in my opinion is clearly reflected in the lyrics of this song).

You are going through the right path to know The Cure. Yes, somebody told you about Cold. Try also Faith, one of their sadest songs and Robert Smith favorite Cure's song
@Johnathansyt3 жыл бұрын
To sum it up...The protagonist in the song contemplates suicide, then takes his own life. He speaks of an idolized life that still leaves him in despair. “Give me your eyes that I might see, the blind man kissing my hand”...Then describes, very vividly, the moments leading to his death. “The sand and the sea grows, I close my eyes. Move slowly through drowning waves, going away on a strange day”. The protagonist then walks out to sea to take his own life and experiences his final moments; “My head falls back and the walls crash down. The sky and the impossible explode. Held for a moment, I remember a song. An impression of sound...and then everything is gone forever”......THIS is why The Cure stands out leaps and bounds beyond the rest. They are unlike no other, and no other does it like them......Since you listened to A Strange Day, I strongly suggest the song that follows, called “Cold”. It is every bit the dark trancelike masterpiece you just enjoyed.
@Hi-qe9gt3 жыл бұрын
Perfect analysis of the lyrics !!!! Also I second your recommendation, ‘Cold’ is super underrated in their discog. And one of my favorites from ‘Pornography’. ETA: some other good cure songs, ‘the drowning man’, ‘one hundred years’ ‘the funeral party’ (the latter being one of my favorites, the synths are beautiful. I get completely lost in that song).

Pretty amazing when artists can have that impact on you. I was born in '84 when The Cure and similar bands were in their heyday. In my teens I shunned "80s music" as a whole thinking it was so cheesy. It wasn't until I heard bands of the early 00s (who I'd come to learn were heavily influenced by bands of the 80s). I dug into those influences and my whole world opened up. A lot of people thought those bands were derivative and many were, but they were absolutely instrumental in my discovery of 80s post-punk, punk, goth, and indie rock. I'm forever grateful.

@@ijustneedmyself I too "found the Cure" at a period in my life where I needed to reset , open up and start again. Your right about the music you get totally lost in it, Robert Smith was in a bad place mentality at the time due to drug use and in band fighting so this undoubtedly contributed to the dark depressing feel of the lyrics, check out “The Figurehead” it’s from the same album Pornography and is a fantastic piece of music with interesting lyrics

I played Simonette in a Cure tribute band for 7 years! Best time of my life! 🥳 The Cure's catalog is so broad and HUGE that there's literally a song for every feeling you can think of! So, I want people's opinion on this one. I don't think they'd put this on their setlist these days.... It's "Killing an Arab." Can you spot what it's about? 🤔
@glcuriste Жыл бұрын
The title of this song is misleading. There is no racism at all. It is based on the best seller novel "The Stranger" by French Nobel prize winner Albert Camus. Robert Smith has been inspired by many authors throughout his carreer. This song (their first single) is one of their most popular. In their latest shows, they changed the title into "Killing Another" to avoid any confusion.

What I like is that you get the drum pattern right away at 5:27 while listening to it for the first time. As Faith (album) is for me around bass guitar, P0rn0graphy (album as well) is made of drums. The first time I heard the Cure I was so young but I remember saying something like this is what I've always wanted to hear I think it was seventeen seconds, primary n faith. Mind you I had seen some of their playful videos and upbeat music, let's go to bed , love cats and the greatest video ever made, close to me. The first time I tried an opioid or opiate, I said this is how I've always wanted to feel. Those are the only two times in my life, even though they were over thirty years apart that I said something like that. Go figure. The Cure will make you endlessly happy opioids will drive your life off the rails. Oh sweetheart please Google, snow in summer. I had a mixtape back then with that 😅😅song and a few others that have never been released it was so amazing that I can't remember the others even though I love them just as much but I remember snow in summer. Robert said he was trying to capture a feeling and he didn't feel like he did. He always captures the feeling and snow in summer meant a lot to me. I hope you like it and you have to hear push and the upstairs room and countless others I envy u and your virgin ears.❤

Really cool review here. Nice to see one of their most beloved yet, overlooked earler songs get it's well-deserved time in the spotlight. The Cure were and still are a great Post Punk/Goth band but, they certainly didn't have a monopoly on that sound. There are *_LOTS_* of other great classic and even new(er) Post Punk/Goth/Darkwave/New Wave/Synth/Shoegaze/Coldwave etc. etc. bands that also made/are making great music in a very similar style. If you (or anyone else) are interested, here are only a very few of the other bands/songs I love and listen to besides The Cure: The Chameleons - _'Intrigue In Tangiers'_ Principe Valiente - _'Strangers In The Night'_ Asylum Party - _'Julia'_ Winter Severity Index - _'A Sudden Cold'_ Clan Of Xymox - _'No Words'_ Holygram - _'Acceleration'_ Siouxsie & The Banshees (pronounced Suzy & The Banshees) - _'Fireworks'_ Drab Majesty - _'39 By Design'_ A Flock Of Seagulls - _'Quicksand'_ The Daysleepers - _'Sundiver'_ Cocteau Twins - _'Serpentskirt'_ Luminance - _'Consolation'_ Kitchens Of Distinction - _'Blue Pedal'_ Hope you enjoy them as much as I have...

"They" do, you just have to go out and find good music! You are not going to find it on the radio. -_- What an insult to all the artists/bands that are currently turning out great music only to fall on deaf ears because people are too damn LAZY to find it. That is a you problem.
@tutsybassista2 жыл бұрын
@@SummonSkeletons That's the problem; most "music" now really, really SUCKS! However, I would DIE to see a collaboration between The Cure and Taylor Swift! Why? 🤔 1) They are fantastic lyricists. 2) Both are multi- instrumentalists. 3) Similar songwriting styles. 4) They look opposite of one another, but they have some things in common. 5) Think numbers... 6) Icons in different centuries. Spot it!
