So many people expect changes to happen when they get married. But I think the reason for marrying is because you're happy with how everything is, and you shouldn't expect these large changes to happen. My wife and I have been married for 7 years and together for 15, and we have been so happy with the way things have been.

Married for 31 years strong! Two adult kids and living life. My advice is grow with each other and all your changes. Be a team. Whatever it is, have each others back. Maintain date night, have your own hobbies, and learn from each other. Keep things spicy in the bedroom, laugh a lot, let your kids see you as an individual and your interests. They will then grow to have there own hobbies and continue to grow.

This is crazy! Been following you since the study tips videos in Lockdown. All the best and may you continue to change the world and make it a better place! I got married 2 years ago and its the best decision I've made! My advice would be to keep talking about everything. Start your day with a kiss and end it with one. Just my 2 cents.

I’ve been married for a few years, almost 4 years in December and the one tip I tell anyone is COMMUNICATE with your other half. A lot of the time we (myself included) think that our partners know what we feel / what’s going on and expect them to be a certain way. But I’ve learnt, people can’t read minds, no matter how close they are to you. My husband cannot read my mind (as much as I’d like for him to😂) so communicating is a key part to any marriage / relationship!

I am so grateful that you are talking about feelings and emotions! And that it's important to rely on them when making decisions in our lives. I burned out on my previous job (Project manager in IT) and had a depression after that. All this was because I ignored the feeling that this job was not okay for me for many years. Now I'm a future psychotherapist, and it feels sooo good and sooo right! I hope that this video will help somebody to switch their life to something that feels good for them❤

When my first marriage ended because my spouse died, I realized the importance of knowing each other's stuff- what your partner would want to do if given the option of palliative care or removal of life support, the passwords to various things, and how certain systems in the housework. It seems awful to think about, but it's important to have plans in case the worse happens. Also, remember the family you two have created is the center of your universe - and while in-laws are wonderful, the pair of you need to be first and foremost.

Hi Ali, I really appreciate your openness and reflections in this video. The way you described balancing 'enough' and 'more,' and the tension between work and chill, feels relatable to many, including those with ADHD or similar traits, where there's often a drive for change and novelty. Out of curiosity, have you ever explored this aspect of yourself? Your insights on self-awareness and productivity feel like they could come from someone with a deep understanding of these dynamics. Thank you for sharing your journey!

I’m from KL and have been here all my life. What I can say is it’s an amazing city and the quality of life here has significantly improved a lot. I’ve noticed a huge amount of expats coming over here from Japan, Korea, and the Middle East. It’s a great city to live in if you’re pretty comfortable financially no doubt.

As someone who has lived in several countries when I was younger: there is really no place like home. Family, friends, shared history & humor. It’s everything. So that’s really growing up for me: actually committing to a place to live. Coming home. Also, once you have kids, they really love their home, you know, you don’t want them to have to travel the world constantly and leave their friends and family behind. So choose a forever home, before you have kids. Married life is the best. When there’s an instance where you’re truly fighting, it makes you feel like losing the ground beneath your feet. So chose your battles wisely, try to always remember that you love each other. Say yes to and be grateful for your partner every day.

I relate to the business update SO much. Been in the film industry for almost a decade and about 3 years ago decided to go from freelance to a production company, managing clients, full projects and overseeing others I've paid to do the work etc. and right now I'm in the middle of closing down the company and going back to what I actually enjoyed doing, the actual creative work, collaborating with other creatives and not needing to manage the client and the overall project from concept to delivery. A lot of soul-searching as you mentioned, and I arrived at the same conclusion. Why the hell am I doing this when I was perfectly happy as I was originally (and earning far more for less work). Sometimes you need to scale the mountain to realise it's not the size of the mountain, but the terrain. Amazing video, thank you for sharing!

Hi Ali, wow.. been following your KZbin videos since the active recall and spaced repetition videos, which clarified so many myths I have been having in studying methods. It made it possible to come for an Aerospace Engineering Masters in the UK from India. It is wonderful (same time unbelievable but relatable) to see you grow into a better calmer person. Congratulations and wish you and Izzy a Joyful and fulfilled Married Life. It is so happy to see you both. I've been following her on KZbin since I came to the UK. Both of your videos gave me a lot of clarity and a better way to proceed with my Studies, Accent, and life. Wow.. once again so happy for you both😍 Actually, I have a small insight that may be relevant, regarding the balance between work and chill and the cycles over and over again. I've been through the same thing. I realized it was due to the fear and uncertainty of death and the regrets we might have. Even though we claim we are not afraid of death, still we do. The thing is we don't want to work so much that we don't enjoy the moment, have new experiences in case of sudden death, and In case of more chill, we feel we didn't contribute or do something meaningful when we had the time. I learned a concept from "Dandapani" (former Monk and entrepreneur, I highly highly recommend his book: "Unwavering Focus"), he said it's not about balance, but the way they complement one another. Sometimes one is more than the other. But always our life has both. I think the choice is at every moment, as you, at the moment what energizes you that's what you want to do that might be work or rest. Once again Congratulations Dr.'s Ali and Izzy on your wedding and the beginning of a new Adventure🥰

My previous boss is the kind of person who believes in growth in terms of quantity (size, status/class, material wealth, etc.), which is why he couldn't take it when I resigned despite "growing" at the office, but I didn't feel like growing because I felt like I didn't serve my emotional need to have meaning in my work. For me, that means aligning my work with my beliefs. Growth, for me, is always learning new things about the world, things that matter to me.

I think the "too much chill" feeling is probably a very Asian thing. We are all brought up to be "productive" (read: bringing in $$), so the thought of just enjoying life at your own pace sort of grates. I retired (early) 2 years ago and keep getting (not-so-subtle) hints from friend and family about being "unproductive" or enjoying myself "too much". I think this flip-flop is a natural thing, and will continue (hopefully) in smaller deviations until we find a new balance in our lives.
