A PARALYMPIAN is sharing her scars with the world in the hope of inspiring body confidence. Veronica, from Italy, contracted an acute case of bacterial meningitis when she was 15. The virus left her body, particularly her arms and legs, severely scarred and impaired. Veronica, who spent years hiding her scars, told Truly: “My scars are my body and my body is me.”

I have a girl named Dawn. At 3 she became quiet and just laid in her swing. I tried to pick her up and she complained that it hurt. I said this is not my normal baby,'' lets take her to the children's hospital''. They knew right away and began to draw fluid from her spine. She had spinal meningitis. They said we got her there just in time, she would have slipped into a coma and died. I had no idea what could have happened, reading this, I thank God for all of you! xxx ooo

I'll be honest, my first thought was why can't a plastic surgeon help this amazing young Woman. I'm also a meningitis survivor. Fortunately my mum used to help with ambulances so had some medical training and recognized the rash and got me to hospital quickly. I spent 5 days in intensive care and came out of it with all my limbs. A year later I was hanging out with friends and one of them started showing symptoms like mine and we made her go to the hospital and she also had it but was so early she got no rash and we saved her life.

Please tell us what were the early symptoms?
@Neon_vix
@Neon_vix 3 жыл бұрын
@@Iamagoodwife my very first symptom was being extremely thirsty. Then my joints started hurting like I had a really bad flu. I was out at the time so I went home, by the time i got home I started vomiting. My joints got so sore I couldnt walk so I was crawling to the bathroom. My boyfriend came home and by then I felt like all my joints were freezing shut like how a spider curls up when it dies. I thought having a hot shower would be a good idea so I got my boyfriend to carry me into the bathroom because by then I couldnt walk. I took my clothes off and saw my whole body was covered in what looked like blood blisters. I freaked out and started going into shock I made my boyfriend drive me to my mums, he carried me inside onto the sofa and mum took one look at me and rang an ambulance before they got to mums I passed out. I remember waking up in hospital briefly as they were trying to straighten my arm to get a line in and it felt like they were breaking my arm, then I passed out again and woke up a couple of days later in Intensive care with heart monitors all over me and quarantine signs all over my door. It was really scary. So those were my symptoms but my friends symptoms were stiff neck, headace, sore joints we caught hers super early so it wasn't as extreme as mine.

Wow........ This makes me emotional..... It is just so beautiful the way she manages, she's an unbelievable role model! Not just for disabled people but for ALL of us! She really learned me a life lesson: to love my body unconditionally, instead of criticising the way it looks, but be thankfull for it because it functions proparly!!! It is disgrace for people like her that -particularly women like myself (I'm a good looking 45 year old mother of 3, I have a healthy weight but still never truly satisfied....) people with scarless and 100% intact bodies often do not realise what a gift it is and that you cannot take it for granted!!!
