P.S. No, Vilk won’t be vegetarian 😆 He’ll spend most of his time outdoors like his mommy (normally I only drive for 2h a day or less). And he isn’t a shelter baby, true, because with my lifestyle, and given how many people I meet, I want to make sure he’s trained to be safe around people and other animals from the get go. Okay that’s all 😉

My dogs came from the streets. They were the best, finest, most perfect mannered, beautiful (big) dogs. I was so proud of them, I could take them anywhere. Shelter dogs, strays and the abandoned make fine companions. My dogs are now deceased. I miss them so very much, life is not the same without them, my dogs that came from nothing, and gave me everything. RIP my beautiful ones.

I needed this. Yesterday I lost my cat after she lived a long 18 years; she was the only pet I've ever had. I've had close friends and relatives die from various reason, but never have I grieved so viscerally and profoundly in my entire life. She saw me progress from boyhood into manhood, and in many ways she knew me better than anyone else on earth, with the exception of my parents. Today I see life as more precious than i saw it previously, and I'm so glad that I can cherish the experiences i had tog her, because i would have never believed that a creature could be so gentle and loving while wanting absolutely nothing in return but love. I would've been much more apathetic towards life in general, and especially towards animals. We are blessed to have those furry friends we call our pets. RIP Toby, may she always remember who loved her.

December 5th of 2008 I brought home this 6lb ball of fluff, a black and tan German Shepherd, He and I traveled to 44 states, 3 Canadian provinces and Mexico to the tune of 1.8 million miles. We sailed oceans, explored the mountains, and had so many adventures together along the way. Back in March I lost him to Bone Cancer, he was the best friend a guy could ask for. You are going to make so many happy memories with this pup, German Shepherds are amazing dogs, The puppy stage is hard and takes a lot of effort, but when you put in the time, you are rewarded with good solid dogs. Vilk looks like a well bred dog, seems strong healthy alert and smart. I suspect he is going to endlessly pick up on things that it will surprise you how much he understands.

German Shepards are amazing dogs, very one person types of dog’s. They like their person and that’s who they follow and listen too. They are very vocal and will cry lot when you first get them. Eva! I have a working line German Shepard! The most loyal dog you could ever ask for! My family struggled initially when he was a puppy with biting (not the mean kind, but it still hurt). We took him to a training camp for 3 weeks to help with his behaviors and it did. I am telling you this, because there were times we worried that we took on more than we could handle. However, we hung in there and I am so gald we did. I cannot describe to you how much joy he brings me everyday. It is inherent in him to protect our family. Throughout the day he surveys the yard, looks out the windows and comes to check in on the humans that are home. Ocasionally, he growls at visitors, but quickly becomes friendly when he sees that we approve of them. I could not be happier for you!
@jeffburnham66112 жыл бұрын
Yeah the biting and chewing everything cost me a few good wooden dining chairs. Having a toy like a kong or wubba helped. Those things are darn near indestructible to a GSD razor puppy teeth.

You'll have to adapt to his rythmes a little: each time he wakes up he'll need to go toilet (remember if he has an accident it's your fault). I would consider getting a small cage for him to sleep in and to keep him safe whilst travelling. It'll come in very handy if you need to leave him whilst you go in a shop or whatever and avoid destruction of the contents of your land rover.

Totally with you Christelle. What people who disagree have to understand, is that raising and training a puppy "on the road" is a lot different than a conventional upbringing for them. @@thestumaji656 Wakey wakey William! What you say she said and what she means overall differ. Eva is firstly looking for companionship, with protection when the dog is big enough and old enough to be capable of that. Until then the dog is a slight liability as he matures and learns the ropes. Your analogy of "like a gun without bullets" paints a picture of your mindset. Incidentally your 25years experience means zilch. A hell of a lot of dogs are raised wrong. Me? You know puzzles are great for your dog. I love taking the large orange clong, dropping a few tiny treats in it, and then stuffing multiple antlers into the end really hard so it's a challenge for the dog to remove. My dog loves it. Happy travels 🐺

Dogs make such amazing travel companions...my two BCs have gone with me everywhere and they have made every memory and every experience better even when you have to change plans to accommodate a dog for temperatures and weather. Those lick pads are amazing (good for treats but it is also a de-stress thing to lick or chew for a puppy). Really looking forward to seeing your adventures together

Remember guys, that dog shelters have tons of best friends waiting for You. They will not wait forever as at some point they will be killed when to much dogs will be on shelter. And as past owner of three dogs i guarantee they will be the biggest friends.

Well said. You are are good person and 100% right. I hope your actions align with your good heart and you live vegan aswell. The people that are upset about this should be vegan aswell, farmed animals are also sweet natured and smart, just like dogs, pigs are considered smarter than dogs and chickens for example can also remember and recognise over 100 different faces, learn their own name and learn over 40 words

@@monkeydluffypvp I'm vegan/wegetarian (i have weakness to real cheese sometimes, but most times i'm vegan). I also - to be honest - not judging people buying dogs - not always it is possible to adopt from shelter - and sometimes buying is better option (like in Eva's case, when she need a puppy who will better adapt and not have some hidden trauma). The only thing i don't support or understand is breed - why so big dog, who need so much walks, training, discipline and space in such small car. Hope it is a well-thought decision.

Yay! So happy for you Eva! My only advice as a lifelong working mountain dog lover. Conditioning and simple consistencies in your daily process at an early age will increase the bond between you two and set important boundaries for your puppies whole life. and as much structured and free puppy to puppy and human socializing you can give him will make a happy and polite dog in the future. Its all about setting him up for success in a given moment so he naturally does what you want and then praise him immensely as soon as he gets it right :) have had smart strong willed dogs all my life and puppy conditioning has made adult training about teamwork rather than a set of commands :)

That vegan tofu vegetable curry looked amazing btw! Also German Shepherds are my fave breed!!! But I think I'd have to adopt from a shelter being well you know ethical vegan and all. I totally get why you picked an GS for your companion. They are smart, intelligent, strong, muscular weapons with a deep sense of loyalty and unconditional love. I love Vilk. He's beautiful. Many people are unfit to own a GS but I'm glad you are on of those who are actually capable of being a proper, disciplined, German Shepherd mum! Congrats Eva!

Does being an 'ethical vegan' mean that a person is against any human assisted breeding Program?. I just don't understand what veganism means in this way thanks
@garrycole91872 жыл бұрын
True, I see a lot of GS at the shelter and wonder what kind of people would abandon a GS or any dog. They are the most loyal breed and will die for their owner if it takes that.

Congratulations Eva! A few suggestions from a former Shepherd owner to help you with your new best friend. That little red toy is called a 'kong'. Black is the most durable since Vilk will need to chew on something while teething. They can also be stuffed with peanut butter or frozen yogurt. The thing Vilk was sitting on that looked like a small trampoline, was a Karanda bed. Expensive but well worth it. Never give the dog normal bones. They tend to splinter which can lodge in their throats. They do make bones to chew on that don't splinter. The first 2 years will be the most frustrating. Shepherds require an immense amount of physical as well as mental simulation or they find ways to do this themselves, which is usually destructive in nature. Training and socialization with other dogs and people are important or the dog could become aggressive. Not sure how you're going to do this with your lifestyle. Best of luck to you and Vilk.

Too cute! I've seen a lot of your vids and this has been the most heartwarming. It reminds me of my family's neighbors who have gone through several German Shepherds. One similarity they all had was their enthusiasm and they were pretty much guaranteed to jump up on you. That wasn't too challenging when they were puppies but as they got bigger (and I do mean BIGGER) they were more likely to knock you over and petting them was more of an adventure. I'm anxious to see how yours grows up and hope you're enjoying the U.S. so far. :)

Your energy for life and genuineness is intoxicating! Being a husky owner and born in the Chinese Zodiac year of the “dog”, I sure do understand your love of these animals! At times, I ask myself… “I am the only person who has figured out how wondrous a lifestyle this is”… so, it does the heart good to see others who “ get it”… Great Luck on your “Vision Quest”…

I have dogs myself and I have and uneasy feeling about this. Life on the road it not necessarily in the interests of this puppy. Plus when it comes time to go back to Poland what then weeks in a crate and no company. Not sure I could do that to a dog. What about shopping for instance what will you do there? Options leave it in a potentially hot car, leave it outside the shop for someone to steal, neither are good options. I would be very interested to hear your plan for this Eva.

I travel alot with my dog, one of the best things I did for her was make a small wooden table to put in between the dashboard and the passenger seat. Gives her the ability to stretch out lay and sit comfortably. Makes long road trips much easier for her.
