For the whammy bar if you try holding the bar in your hand so it hovers in line with the string and then press the end of the bar down towards the strings it should work! The whammy works by pulling the string so there more tension creating the different sounds. So you might need to press a decent amount to get it work, but don't worry it won't get damaged with the pressure :)
