Some people come back from the hospital with bandages on their faces and have to tell me who they are. Usually, I do recognize their voices but your nose was stuffed up and makes a difference. I just got a new kitty who has been so scared of us and has slowly started to open up to us more. She's currently scared if we move around too much or stand, so we are working with her with that :) But when I'm sitting she will even sit and lay next to me! Recently she started meowing which has been such a treat hearing her little voice. I don't really know what she's asking yet!

Every cat has its ways. Among mine, Charlie hated my childish voice (he was terrorized by children) but I'm glad he saw me as family. For Pollon, knowing I was home meant the whole world: he would get very depressed in case he couldn't see or hear me (to the extent of speaking to him through the phone on some occasions). He couldn't recognize me when wearing sunglasses and hats he wasn't used to see me in. His sister Cappuccina was just the local welcome committee and everyone was like her best friend! She hated scarves and growled at them. My dog Neve hated men wearing a beard and whenever he saw one, he would become unusually aggressive. He developed this behavior after someone tried to beat him with a stick when he was 6 or 7: he felt treated unjustly and got full of hate. As a consequence, more than one had to be warned to shave their beards off prior to coming over in order not to trigger his violent reaction.

In my experience as a life long cat owner (i have 9 right now), i think cats look into your eyes just as one human does to another. It's the thing that has always convinced me that they're really smart! I think the kitten in that video was meowing towards the shoes because he was watching for them to move, knowing that meant they're possibly going to where the food is.

My sis and my mom got a cat while I am living afar. When I went home, I found the kitty slept in the bathroom, I closed the door, and she meowed welcoming me 😂 poor kitty thought I was my sister, then she jumped when I answered her cute warm welcoming.
