Absolutely FANTASTIC. Great playing all round. So nice to see clarinets featured. And well played, too. Great solos. It seems the clarinet is almost entirely out of fashion in jazz these days. At least on the radio. JazzFM in Toronto seldom offers any clarinet music. Every reed player wants to take the easy way out and play the saxophone. They avoid the demands of ‘the torture stick’. Clarinet players ( and I’m one) know that clarinets ‘separate the men from the boys’……………with all due respect to Ms’s Tropez, Feoranzo and Cohen, among others. Those three ladies are all VERY VERY fine players. Not that it’s important, but I can’t say I appreciate the appendage on Mr. Evans’ instrument where the bell should be. (I keep thinking he should be wearing lederhosen. ) Perhaps it’s because I’m not aware this ‘pipe bowl’ adds anything to the sound of the instrument. Do tell. I’m 73. I bought a crystal mouthpiece in 1964 ( at Whaley Royce on Yonge Street, Toronto…….long gone ) so I could be just like my idol, Pete Fountain. It was in my possession for mere days when I dropped it. BANG. Chipped the tip rendering it useless. I was heartbroken and never replaced it. But I’ve thought about it more than once in the 50 plus years since the mishap.

Great! Aurelie plays a very interesting style that combines folkloristic gipsy feel with bebop-like chromatics. Traditional jazz kisses modern jazz. And the bass player even throws in some rockabilly. Amazing!

This is one so cool, and I look up to see it has only 17,000 views. Was expecting in the 100k range tbh.

A great tune for clarinet, the key and tempo are so right. It's such fun when you hit those changes in the bridge; it propels you forward. James with the glass mouthpiece must have heard the Pete Fountain recording. Classic.

What do call the clarinet technique at 7:27 (it sounds like "slap clarinet" : )
