The same thing happened to me. The less things I have the less cluttered my brain became and it left room for me to realise who I was and what was important. I struggled to declutter the clothes. I now have 13 items. Good quality ones. I’ve literally donated over 160 pieces. Shoes. Bags. Clothes. What I now have I use. I think I can even declutter a few more even. I feel like a weight has been lifted. And ironically I now don’t want to buy things. I realise that if I do that clutter will ‘dull’ my brain again. It’s also helped me to accept myself the way I am. I no longer feel like I need to dye my hair or have my nails done. I am the happiest and most comfortable I’ve ever been. Good luck to everyone on their own specific journey.❤

To me, as a mom especially, it came down to realizing how I was in a certain way, pausing my life by simply not getting dressed for the day... as if being alive and with the people I love wasn't a good enough reason to get myself together in the morning.... I was also sending my inner self the wrong message every day.. like everyday life is not worth the good and best we have. I went through pregnancy and nursing 6 times in the past 12 years and only with reaching a certain understanding about myself and selfworth, helped me breaking free from many insecurities I was allowing to creep in through comparison. You're doing such a great job as a young mama, Madi!

Hi, perhaps embracing a more minimal wardrobe instead of a “minimalist” wardrobe would be helpful? Living in New England means in order to be comfortable, you will need more items than someone living in CA. Your reality is different to KZbin creators like this but you can glean inspiration from her wardrobe! For example, instead of 3 winter coats, perhaps 2 would be enough? Instead of 8 sweaters, maybe your top 5 would be enough? I live in rural VT, I have kids; I’m always trying to strike that balance of “just enough”. Just enough pairs of mittens that I’m not losing mind trying to find a pair before leaving for preschool, but not so many pairs that I’m drowning in clutter and consumption. 😅

Your storytelling is so captivating. I’ve always been inspired by your 10 item wardrobe videos and have used it to customize my own! I learned through the process that during the spring/summer months I really don’t wear more than 10-15 different items, it’s the colder months that get me. But I’m still figuring out what serves me and a happy medium that’s not too much and not too little ☺️

This is crazy! The Lord called me to do the same thing a few weeks ago. I never felt like I had enough or that I ever showed up as myself. I was constantly comparing and trying to be something I’m not. I watched the Lord provide for me in MIRACULOUS ways after laying it all down. I have found so much freedom and have items that actually suit me and reflect who I am.
@user-ry1vi1jc7o4 ай бұрын
Me, too! I got rid of most of what I had for the same reason. Also, I had kind of lost who I was because I was dressing somebody I wasn't, and then in my work life I wore a uniform. So I really lost touch with what was authentic for me. Recently I bought a few items that I really liked. Not expensive and not designer like I used to wear. One of my favorite outfits turns out to be a pair of light-wash wide-leg jeans and a fitted navy blue T-shirt and flip-flops. I caught myself in the mirror and realized, Oh this is something I would have liked when I was preteen and it feels so perfect on me. I read somebody's comment somewhere that when we get back to what we liked when we were little, that's the authentic part of us, and that makes us happy. I would say the things we liked before we became "sophisticated" (sophisticated actually means fake). I am 62 years old, and once I had gotten rid of my designer stuff, I wasn't getting all the looks that I used to. But interestingly, in my jeans and T-shirt, I was. Especially from one eight or 10 year old kid that just kept looking at me up and down. It was the funniest thing. But most importantly, I feel good, and completely un-selfconscious...finally! I know that would never have happened if I had held on to all of my old stuff.

Aiming for some type of minimalism is a move in the direction of finding what really matters in your life.

I will say, in my pregnancy/postpartum, I spend money on clothes and then once I go back to my small usual wardrobe, everything feels more simple. I am almost back to my normal clothes again now and it is so near, but I also plan on getting pregnant again for the last time before I age out (I'm 40). I typically wear x-small tops but am in medium right now. I typically wear medium pants and underwear but have been wearing a mix of some medium/some large. I typically wear size small dresses but am in medium and large. My bust is huge when I am nursing (I am usually an A/B cup and right now am a G/H cup). I think this is the only time I have given myself permission to spend money so I can wear something that makes me feel "normal." I loved seeing your downsizing here. I know you have had videos before showing your wardrobe, and I do think you always have kept it pretty simple and lovely.

I’m struggling with how to declutter with my 6 year old. He’s old enough I feel like it should be his choice. But I don’t want to force him, and I don’t want him to feel like he’s ‘losing’ by minimizing. Been working on this with him for about a year and a half. Wish I’d found minimizing before he was 4. I think that would have helped sooo much, because I could have done it for him more. Any suggestions anyone? Without it being a losing battle? And without breaking his trust? ❤
@sarar52306 ай бұрын
Perhaps letting him see you declutter and the reasons behind every piece you are getting rid off, ie stained, or doesn’t fit. Might be a drip feed type way for him to understand and do it for himself. Im sure others with little ones can give you helpful suggestions as well.x
@user-ry1vi1jc7o4 ай бұрын
sarahk758 1 month ago "I’m struggling with how to declutter with my 6 year old. He’s old enough I feel like it should be his choice. But I don’t want to force him, and I don’t want him to feel like he’s ‘losing’ by minimizing." Many have had great success with using the "container concept". It shifts the focus from pain to gain. The idea is that everything is a container. Each dresser drawer is a container, each closet is a container, each shelf is a container. The house itself is a container. So you identify your containers and designate what each will be used for. For instance, the top drawer will be underwear and socks, the second drawer will be pants and shorts, the shelf in the closet will be for scarves and gloves, etc. Each container is self-limiting, in that it can only hold so much and no more. So let's say one of the drawers is designated for T-shirts . Your son gets to keep whatever T-shirts he wants, but once the drawer is full, he can't add any more, and the remaining T-shirts have to go. So what he will do is pick out his most favorite T-shirt of all and put that in the drawer, and then he'll pick out his next favorite T-shirt and put that in the drawer, and so on until the drawer is full. Then he knows he has his favorite things, and the rest can go. This gives a sense of responsibility and satisfaction, because he has chosen his favorite things to keep. Your job in the process would simply be to help him make his choices if needed, and to make sure that the leftovers actually leave the house. Hope that helps.

Clothing budget isn’t an issue, but I do have a hard time spending money on myself. I have a 6yo,4yo,2yo and baby #4 due in July. My body has fluctuated so much in the last 6 years clothes hasn’t been a huge priority. I find myself stuck now, with HOW to add quality pieces when I’m ready, after baby. I rarely go shopping, and quite honestly have no idea where to start. I don’t particularly like ordering online because trying things on and feeling good in my clothes is most important. This is a question for all. How many outfits can you wear with a 10 piece wardrobe? How often are you doing laundry? What about those in a 3 or 4 season clime? Do you have a "uniform"? For those over 40, how are you fighting the frump or the sad chase of looking 20? How to keep the look casual and pretty without looking like you gave up? ( Looking at you young ones wearing baggy shirts and PJ bottoms out in public). Really struggling to focus my style in such a limited collection.

I am 62 and have finally reconnected with my own authentic style. Key for me was having gotten rid of just about everything in my closet, which was all designer stuff that didn't necessarily make me feel all that comfortable or like it was me. Then I allowed myself to buy some things here and there that just made me kind of happy. I realized that these were things I would have liked before I my teenage years. Just simple pieces that I feel really comfortable and happy in. It's interesting the reaction I've gotten from people has been really positive and maybe that's a reflection that what I'm putting on reflects more honestly who I am. If there should be any rules at all for dressing once a bit older, I think that not showing a lot of skin would be it. You can get away with wearing just about anything you love as long as it isn't too low-cut or a short or tight.

Regarding keeping whites clean, I found a tip years ago that really works for keeping whites from yellowing, especially around the neck. Drop one regular white, old-school aspirin in with your detergent. As long as you haven't put something through the dryer to set the stains, the yellowing should come out. As far as other dirt goes, I don't know, but I did just learn that Dawn dish soap applied to a grease spot will remove it.
