Today I want to talk about how buying fakes helps the RICH get RICHER, while keeping you POOR. At the beginning of my luxury journey I thought people were getting suckered into paying full price for these luxury bags because of the brand/logo alone. I thought that I was so smart because if I buy a genuine leather knock off, I'm getting the same quality for a fraction of the price. After all they look exactly the same when I compared the original to the knock off the day I bought it home. A year later, I realized that I got exactly what I paid for and that was a costly $400 lesson to learn. :/
The GOOD:
-security purposes, preserving the authentic goods
-money goes towards other investments
-fake rich image to build a brand
The BAD:
-looks good the day you bought it, but won't last past the first year
-other people will know it's fake and you will look pathetic
-your fakes have no resell value or value of any kind
The UGLY:
-you are stuck with the fake good for life because it's illegal to sell fakes
-once you own a fake item, people assume that everything you own is fake
-you are funding terrorism, exploitation of child labor, and other illegal activities

Spot on, I didn't start buying luxury items until I'd bought my house, home completely furnished, dream car and money in the bank. I'm 32yrs and just started investing in luxury items...success is slow. Take time to prioritise and impress yourself and not others which is why possible most people buy fakes. I've worked in corporate America for a 8 year time span in media management. All of my designer lux brands at this time were replicas. For some reason, when meeting with potential clients or being placed on assignment, the appearance of opulence got me into the door. I knew I wanted to go to graduate school and be completely out of debt upon graduation, and this was how I was able to attain it. With that being said, I will probably never purchase a luxury designer accessory. In my current position, it holds no value.

Thanks for sharing your story hon. For some people such as yourself it's part of your job. Same for real estate agents. Alot of them used rented cars etc. When you sell million dollars houses, you can't roll up in a corolla. Clients just don't take you seriously. That being said, I know people who have gotten into deep debt to look rich. It's sad that appearance matters so much in certain jobs. 😔 Take my youtube channel. Some of my videos have 1k-30k views, but I only have about 200 subscribers. If I show up wearing makeup, dressed nicely instead of in sweats all the time I'll probably have more subscribers. That being said, a male youtuber don't have to get made up to deliver content. Media in general is superficial and much harsher on women. Appearance not only gets you into the door, it helps you keep the job and even rise above others. I can totally see why media personalities would use fakes. Does it make it right? No. It's still stealing intellectual property. 😕 After you've gotten into the door and became solid in your field, what made you continue to buy fakes instead of authentic products? Was it to save cost? I'm just curious.

Great overview of “fake items!” Love your honesty and we can all relate! I got scammed too! This middle eastern woman sold me a Birkin 35 Orange bag for $2500 in 2010. I thought the price was reasonable considering the price at that time. After we met, I realized it was fake. She was nowhere to be found and would not return my calls. In turn, she used my hard work $$$ to buy the real deal. Good riddance to her! I believe in karma so I’m sure she got it. Don’t buy anything on Craigslist / Ebay. Buy the real deal y’all.

So sorry that you got scammed hon. I hope karma gets her and she chokes on your money. 😡 It's really common to get scammed on eBay. I tried to buy my white chanel mini flap THREE times on eBay and finally the 3rd time I got a real bag. I had to open 2 paypal cases and of course got my money back but my bank account was out of 12k that month on bags because it takes them over a month to do the refund. By the 3rd try, my husband was like just get something else from the store pleaseeee. 😭

@@pilar689 Did you pay with PayPal? PayPal 99% will always side with buyer. Also don't throw the shoes away, PayPal will make you send them back to seller for refund. I remember the fake seller making me pay for postage back and I argue with PayPal and they sent me free shipping label to ship back the fake bag to seller.

I’m so glad you showed the horrible quality of that $400 fake bag. Because you are right, it is money you will never see again. It’s so easy to get duped into thinking you are getting similar quality for less money but it is honestly so bad. And the worst is some people will use these fakes and sell them as real to steal your hard earned money. TFS! ❤️❤️❤️

Don't do it liz! It looks great the first weeks that you have it. Honestly, I was thinking about what a great deal it was and whatnot, but soon afterwards the "leather" deteriorated. It looks terrible. The bag was cream coloured, now it's turned a mustard tan and I got tri-color hardware. It's silver and light gold turn lock and guady gold on the chain shoulder straps. Ugh, $400 down the toilet. Might as well bought a really nice quality Coach bag. 😭

Hi! I like how you talked about how ‘investing’ in a fake bag would give you a bad quality bag when you could have already gotten a very good quality mid range bag. That’s my personal consumer belief. If you like something but can’t afford designer, go to a mid range brand!

I recently heard that a very famous Italian brand house buys its purses from Italian craftsmen/little firms and resells them with the tag for a very higher price. I know that firms invest a lot of money in creating a strong brand so it's kinda fair that branded items cost more but the difference is extremely huge and most people end up buying fake leather bags instead which only last 7a few years. Such a bad experience with fake leather bags :(

I would say the majority of the price goes towards things we don't see like prestige and the exclusivity of owning such an item.🙄 It's emotions over logics with most lux item (exception is collectible pieces). 🤫That being said now days if I can't afford I a certain brand I would just save up for it OR go one brand down and get a high quality item there. But fakes are totally not an option. 🤗

I agree with you. Mid range or even low range is always better than fakes in terms of quality. Now a days, if I buy pre-love non vintage bags, I bring them to the designer store to get them spa. If the store agree to spa the bag, it's real. If they refused, it's fake. I'm so paranoid now, I don't even trust authenticators.

I like to buy a desinger item once a year or at most 2 times a year and I don’t spend much, I save money and go buy it. I don’t like flashing my items, I love buying from Zara and H&M, I always get compliments on my outfits, less is more, there is nothing wrong with spending money wen U know u have it, I just can’t get my mind to understand how people flex wen thy don’t have money 🤦🏻‍♀️. Zara has beautiful leather bags that look and feel amazing try it😉

When it comes to the prices on brand new goods, 90% goes towards the prestige and 10% on material/craftsmanship. You can find high quality pieces for reasonable price if you can look pass the brands. For example, my husband wear seiko timepieces. 😍 He says the movement is great but secretly I think he wears those so that I can wear Hermes. 😉

In the beginning of youtube there was this sweet girl from Germany that made videos showing her nice things and people bully her so she stopped making videos. It's a shame. She was humble and real. Now people are accepting of luxury items so you get the total opposite where people are flaunting and buying just to make a video and get views. The reviews on the bags are not that great and message that it's putting out there is not good. So wasteful. I don't have alot of money. What I buy has to be versatile and I hope to share some picks and lessons learn on my luxury journey to save others a buck or two. 🤗

Believe me, it didn't look this way when I first got it. Most replica are vinyl. They advertise it as leather but after years, you will see. I have a real vintage chanel bag. About 20 years old, the leather is still supple and nice. A fake bag will never look like an original over time.

I have seen “high quality replicas” online for about $250-$400 but recently found out you can directly order from China for as low as $100 for the Grade A quality you bought.
