Sorry you got scammed. Know that feeling. But hey as you were telling me that story I thought you got robbed too so it could've way worse/ dangerous. At least you are safe

I actually forgot my wallet when I went to work and I realized afterwards that I would not have enough gas to make it home. I went into the gas station and asked what others ways I could pay, and they said they accepted checks and apple pay. Well, I didn't have my ID and I needed my credit card number to set up apple pay. I felt so stupidly stuck because I had money, but no way to access it. Fortunately, I met a kind couple that lent me enough money so that my gas light no longer turned on. Running out of gas is one of my greatest fears because of how common scams are. I was just fortunate these people took me seriously.

You know, it doesn’t reflect badly on you. You realised what was happening and you reacted in an appropriate way. Don’t stop being kind and loving. We need more people like you in the world. And we need to shift the focus away from making people feel silly for getting scammed and back to showing love and compassion. Who knows, maybe they really did need the money and you helped a lot. Just not in the way you were expecting.

I helped a lady at the airport after I dropped off my GF. GF and I had a long distance relationship and not being sure when we would see each other again, I was emotionally sad as hell. This old lady walks up to me begging for cash for her car. I do my due diligence in asking what happened and I help her out. As I drive out of the airport, I see her doing the same thing again to other people. These scammers have no soul.

Social security reform would fix a lot of this. $1250 isn't enough to survive on. $950 certainly isn't either.

I honestly thought you were gonna say he had a skimmer in the credit card reader and stole money from your card. It’s some sketchy people out here unfortunately so I say no to everyone. I feel bad because someone may actually need help, but nope - can’t do it.

I got scammed like this once. I was waiting at a train station when a guy came to me BEGGING me to pay for his bus ticket so he could go home, explaining he spent the night outside and that no one helped him. He swore he would pay me back the next day, took all my info for it. It was a bit fishy, but I took a risk because if his story was true then he really needed help. Never saw my 40€ again. And what really makes me mad is that, if someone comes up to me asking for help again, even if it's genuine, I won't feel compelled to help them because of this one guy who never paid me back...

I am still wondering if I got scammed in Florida years ago. A couple said they were from NJ and just got robbed. Why would they do that to a college student though?

I had thay happen to me....a man begging saying he's got money. Everytime he said look at my kids, the kkds would start praying and begging like please and then stops and same thing over again. I still didnt give nothing cause this happens all the time

❤Wow, I know how that feels, I was scammed the guy got over $300 from me and was still asking for money when I stopped. I still have the post from the whole mess, I wanted to rat the person like you did, now it’s just hard to really trust anyone. 🙏🏾🥰🙏🏾🥰🙏🏾

Note to self. I remember being at a gas station in Vegas on my way to Phoenix and an older guy pulled up in a sports car and started asking people for gas saying he was in the Marine Corp and something something similar about his cards, I could tell by looking at him he was stealing valor.

I try to help. but we get an influx here in Northern Maine in the warmer Southern months of "Homeless" Hispanic people taking advantage. We are the Whitest State so they stand out. A few times I gave cash, but then I started offering Food from the Drive-Thru and in my rearview mirror saw them heave it behind them into the bushes. Another time my son who is 25, told me to pull over and watch, sure enough... they had a perfectly functional car. Yet the various signs would say "Anything will help!" or "Homeless Vet" or "We got evicted and can't feed the children!" etc. It was really disheartening. Driving alone I don't dare offer a ride to a shelter, but I have Water and written out who to call and where to go for help. They acted like I spat on them when I handed them that instead of money. We truly DO have help here, but these beggars have no interest in it. Cash is King.

If you gonna help, prob best if you gave $20 cash and walk away! Never use your card! I did think too that he stole your card info with some scanner thing. Seems more like they took advantage of your kindness vs this being a scam. Best
