I guess nowadays people will question it, but you have to remember the time it was made. Afrocentrism, or "black pride", was thriving in the early 70's, and educators were trying to do more to promote the acceptance and understanding of the black-American culture to the white world. Music is the universal communicator and was used to heal wounds after the riots. It's educational value speaks for itself, obviously.

captainblewhard exactly. that is why we still had to teach our children about community organizations like of course black k panthers and Latino panthers in new York city and chicago expo'. my mother is from North Carolina recently they voted against black studies in schools be cause they way white establishment disrespects our history and we got very tired of them cheating us. thanks for showing the genre of our culture appropriation.

Absolutely my favorite Schoolhouse Rock song and the "Throwin' down jacks" transition is one of my all-time faves in any song. I remember just randomly catching SHR during '70s Saturday morning cartoons on ABC and, man, if you were watching another channel, flipped over and saw that you'd missed SHR on ABC, it was a bitter pill and you had no idea when your favorite SHR would pop up again. Back in the day, when you missed TV shows, movies, whatever, that was it. You might catch a rerun in summertime but when they were gone, you had to wait it out and hope you were luckier next time. Good times.

Notice the colors on the six balloons that the boy taking the subway is carrying-red,orange,yellow,green,blue,and purple-each balloon's color,is a color,of,the rainbow,or spectrum. I wonder if the popping sound we seem to hear at the very end, is supposed to be the balloons popping,as the boy boards the subway(in which case, the subway door would close on the balloons, thus popping them?)

We got eighteen all together. If we can get'em all together. 6 x 3 is 18, 3 x 6 I got six In my right hand, Six In my left hand, Six on my head. And you got six in your pocket. Put'em all on the floor-that's twenty-four. 6 X 4 IS 24, 4 x 6 I got six red hens. They laid five eggs each. All the eggs hatched out, And the yard was full of thirty little chicks. 6 x 5 is 30, 5 x 6 One fine day, They all started in to lay. I got thirty-six eggs and I took 'em in the house, And I put'em in boxes, Six eggs each. Six boxes. Aw, 6 x 6 is 36, 6 x 6 Going to the candy store- I'll take six of these and six of those and six of them and six of the others. And also six of the red, six of the white, and six of the blue. I'll put'em in one bag-that's forty-two. 6 x 7 is 42, 7 x 6 Oh, I'm throwin' down jacks, Pickin' up six. I made eight tricks And didn't miss a lick. 6 x 8 is 48, 8 x 6 Nine hungry men had six dollars each (Aw!) and that's fifty-four bucks, But they were out of luck. Cause fifty-four bucks won't buy dinner downtown. Not for nine. Then there were Six hungry men They had nine dollars each (Yeah!) And they went downtown, and the waiter said "Sit down!" Oh, it makes a big difference how you spread it around. 6 x 9 is 54, 9 x 6 See that prince over there (Yeah!) The one with the fuzzy hair. He's got six rings on every finger. He don't wash no dishes, Not with sixty diamonds. 6 x 10 is 60, 10 x 6 He brought along eleven camels. Now, ain't that nice. (Ain't that nice) Each one loaded down with six casks of oil and spice. Brought quite a price. 6 x 11 is 66, 11 x 6 He had twelve wives. He better be rich. Each one had six kids-six children each. 6 x 12 is 72, 12 x 6 But me, I got six. (I got six) That's all there is.
