A couple wants DNA from three men.
I GOT THIS is used with permission from Erik Bork. Learn more at igotthisfilm.com.
Once upon a time, Chris and Jennifer dated. But then Jennifer got pregnant, and now she and Jack co-parent a little girl together. But one day, Chris asks Jennifer to marry him, so they can make it official. But Jennifer drops a bombshell: Chris may not be the father of the daughter. And with no better options, she may move out of state with her daughter.
Desperate to keep them nearby, Chris convinces Jennifer to find the real father and get a child support settlement that will allow them to stay. But getting the DNA of other men proves trickier than expected, propelling them on an odyssey that's equal parts comical and touching -- and just a tad gross! -- to find out just who the father is.
Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning BAND OF BROTHERS writer and producer Erik Bork makes his directing debut in this charming, heartfelt relationship dramedy that goes surprisingly deep -- and makes a few unexpected detours -- to look at just what bonds and connects families and loved ones together.
As expected, the writing is superlative, with an ear for wry, befuddled dialogue and a sensitivity to the real emotional dilemmas that the characters are grappling with. Balancing the emotional drama with the moments of comedy is a high-wire act, but the short does it well, whether it's in the tenor of the measured storytelling or the muted, warm visuals, which have an earthy, 70s feel that suits an almost shambolic narrative. Even the toilet humor of the film is on the muted side, and though it's played for laughs, it also is an important part of the plot.
The excellent performances of the two leads, played by actors Jack De Sena and Rome Shahanloo, also suit the understated approach, offering up flickers of genuine vulnerability, doubt and uncertainty that tempers the scatalogically-inclined turn the plot takes. Even when genuinely hilarious moments bubble up -- many of them courtesy of actor Anil Margsahayam as a lab technician -- we always are in touch with what's at stake for Chris and Jennifer, and especially Chris's drive to keep his family together.
I GOT THIS is on the longer side of a short film. But in taking its time, it allows viewers the space to invest in the story and develop a wry affection for the foibles and quirks of its characters. It also allows time for the film's emotional arc to unfold organically. In the shared quest to find the daughter's father, Chris and Jennifer realize that it takes more than DNA to make a parent and a partner. It takes a willingness to stand by one another during the challenges of life -- and allow the process of that shared experience to change each other as individuals and as partners.
The film ends with a discovery, a surprise and a bit of a cliffhanger -- but it also ends with a heartwarming conviction that no matter what happens, this will be a family full of respect, love and partnership.

Is it me or this guy's acting is so good/funny & humbled. Even if he wasn't the biological father his attachment to that child & the way he went beyond to find her biological father proved his REAL Pure LOVE to her.
@popcorn-uz3tn

He sought out the biological dad so the real dad pays the bills the the mom stays there and he goes on pretending to be the real dad. This is so screwed up on so many levels and how film reflects real life its a mirror to how wrong life really is. If he really loved the his daughter he would move out of his dads house get a real job and support their family and explain to the daughter when she comes of age to understand. Everyone has clean hands then, in this story everyone is the bad guy except the real dad that gets screwed over for a broken condom. You being 24 makes you naive to this moral story really being told here. If I raise a daughter as if she were mine, I am going to pay for it...all of it, you are whats wrong with society, you get something and I pay for it and you call that real love?

Point 1: It may not make a difference if they found a different guy to be the father assuming the boyfriend put his name on the little girl's birth certificate thus assuming the legal father role. This is a way that some courts have forced men who were not the father of a child to pay child support when the mother did not know who the father was. As far as the government is concerned, they just want the money for the child to come from somewhere. Point 2: The couple essentially committed theft at least once (the cigar) to find out who the father was. Committing a crime to find evidence is generally not a good idea. Point 3: Popcorn1967 has the right idea when it comes to the money. If the parents take any money at all from biological father, they are asking for more problems than it would solve. The father would either likely fight paying in general(and in the scenario provided has more money with which to win that fight) OR demand rights to the child (deservedly so) possibly even trying to get full custody and now you just lost your kid (I understand that this is not a likely scenario but it is definitely a possibility you avoid by simply not involving him).

Unfortunately, in this superficial society, a guy like that would not end up with a girl that "hot" or cute no matter that she's just gotten out of prison & has god knows how many skeletons in her closet. However, even though she would never run out of alpha's to sleep with for another few years, it's not likely any of them would commit, because alpha's can do better AND are usually careful not to get one of their many conquests pregnant. Under desperate circumstances, if a girl lets logic rule instead of her snap-clam, which is unlikely, she might pick a beta (as this one did here), but not just any beta. This guy really did prove himself by confronting and (barely) outsmarting the alpha's, so it's almost believable because he earned some respect points.

The character of Chris (Jack De Sena, excellent and likeable) really keeps this short afloat with his love for the little girl, who clearly adores him. The ending and whole short works cause you are rooting for him to be the dad. The character of Jennifer is where many people find issue. We don't ever get a sense that she really likes Chris in any romantic way besides their one night stand. She shows a bit more care to him at the end but you just don't get enough of that side of her in this. Especially when Chris is so damn likeable and loves his daughter, that when Jennifer is just so cold towards him in scenes just makes the audience not like her very much. I do believe she feels such a terrible amount of guilt for saying he was the father and for her past. I think her straight forward honesty to him is refreshing but does make her look very heartless and uncaring to him. I don't know it's weird one. I'm 50/50 of if she likes him in any romantic way.

Nevermind what this does to the man who was lied to, or misinformed to be the father. The child will never know his or her real father. These are the times we live in. The thing is, in many cases the biological-father or sperm-donor was the worse kind of man ever! Then someone who would have been the best father, was denied his right to be. People are far too irresponsible. No wonder every other human being you know has emotional or mental-health issues. Anybody can breed! It's a sad commentary on modern-society!
@davidgreen5994
@davidgreen5994 5 жыл бұрын
+e hd Sperm donors exist BECAUSE not everyone can breed. There are men who can't have children, and the only way they can become fathers is trough a sperm donor or adoption. There are also cases, where both parents can carry a genetical defect, that would lead to a sick child, and when that gene can't be treated, a sperm donor is necessary. And so on... Is not such a simple matter.

@CBfrmcardiff
@CBfrmcardiff 4 жыл бұрын
@@fortnitefanningfunnymomets7613 But of course, s statistically, women ARE attracted to "beta males". When looking for a casual encounter, they rate men based on strength-based characteristics. When looking for a boyfriend, the importance of other perceived characteristics ("kindness") goes up. That might frustrate a beta male in his search for sexual ecstasy, but it does make a woman more likely to fall in love with him. So maybe the 'beta' males win?
@MrPedrusk

@@CBfrmcardiff kindness is not a "beta male" trait. A "beta male" is weak and non-confrontational, not kind. You can be both strong and kind. And a woman won't fall in love with a "beta", she will just consider him practical. The video is a clear example. Does that woman love that guy?
